Are the comparisons to the late days of the Roman Empire, and the megalomania of the late-day Roman Emperors valid, yet?

Do we have our own...no, I'm not going to compare him with Nixon, even though he seems to be turning into Nixon, right before our eyes. Because, if you'll remember, at the bitter end even Nixon, that horribly broken excuse for a human being, had the last shred of humanity and patriotism within him, and summomed that last shred to the fore, long enough to understand that America was more important than his own ego, and resigned.
