Know your BFEE: Bush has Killed a Million Innocent People for Their Oil.
The Iraqi people had nothing to do with September 11.

Yet, they committed the "sin" of living on top of the Bush Crime Family’s precious oil.

And like all who get close to the drunken cheerleader, they must pay the price.

Poll: Civilian toll in Iraq may top 1M

A British survey offers the highest estimate to date. At least 4 die in a Sadr City car bombing.

By Tina Susman
Los Angeles Times Staff Writer

September 14, 2007

BAGHDAD — -- A car bomb blew up in the capital's Shiite Muslim neighborhood of Sadr City on Thursday, killing at least four people, as a new survey suggested that the civilian death toll from the war could be more than 1 million.

The figure from ORB, a British polling agency that has conducted several surveys in Iraq, followed statements this week from the U.S. military defending itself against accusations it was trying to play down Iraqi deaths to make its strategy appear successful.

The military has said civilian deaths from sectarian violence have fallen more than 55% since President Bush sent an additional 28,500 troops to Iraq this year, but it does not provide specific numbers.

According to the ORB poll, a survey of 1,461 adults suggested that the total number slain during more than four years of war was more than 1.2 million.

ORB said it drew its conclusion from responses to the question about those living under one roof: "How many members of your household, if any, have died as a result of the conflict in Iraq since 2003?"

Based on Iraq's estimated number of households -- 4,050,597 -- it said the 1.2 million figure was reasonable.

A million innocent people. Those are NAZI numbers.

Yet that doesn't stop Wall Street from cheerleading for the crazy monkey.

The Turning Point

War In Iraq

September 14, 2007: 08:05 PM EST
Investor's Business Daily delivered by Newstex

Years from now, people will look back on last week as truly historic. It began with Gen. David Petraeus' fact-filled account of our success on the ground, and it ended with President Bush making the case, stronger than ever, for finishing the job.

Petraeus' detailed report seems particularly damning to those who oppose our mission in Iraq. Clearly, a major change has occurred there. Petraeus' words make it clear al-Qaida is on the run. Yes, he confirmed, we're winning -- and he backed up his conclusion with facts. Among them:

"Security incidents" since the surge began in mid-June have fallen in eight of the past 12 weeks. Attacks in the past two weeks were the lowest since April 2006.

Civilian deaths, excluding natural causes, have plunged 45% in Iraq since December, and by a whopping 70% in Baghdad.

"Ethnosectarian" deaths -- basically, deaths resulting from Sunni-Shiite-Kurdish religious and ethnic strife -- have plummeted 55% in the same period.

Attacks in once-deadly Anbar Province are off 85% -- from 1,350 in October 2006, during the peak of violence there, to just over 200 in August. This is due to the U.S. "hearts and minds" campaign to win Sunnis over to the war against al-Qaida.

U.S. troops have captured the leader of al-Qaida in Iraq, killed or captured almost 100 other terrorist leaders, and killed or captured 2,500 fighters over the past eight months.

What a load of hooie.

The Military-Industrial Complex runs on petroleum.

It has since the dawn of mechanized armies.

OIL - Modern WAR GOD Threatens the World

Black gold, precious underground liquid, is food for the modern war machine. Deprived of it, a nation’s military campaign is threatened with failure. Will oil become an instrument to enforce peace or to cause war?

WITHIN the last few decades, oil has changed from an almost unknown and unnecessary commodity to one of the world’s most vitally needed materials. Oil, unlike nitroglycerin, has always been an innocent, viscous fluid used for lubrication and fuel. But harmless petroleum, like Dr. Jekyll, has undergone a startling transformation. Oil may yet be the means whereby the flaming torch of war is carried across the world.

Behind this strange tale of oil lies history’s most spectacular conflict and the interlacing network of European diplomacy. The Ethiopian campaign of Italy, the advancement of science, agreements among world powers— these factors seem in a fair way to change petroleum from a respectable citizen of the economic world to a brigand and an outlaw or an enforcer of peace.

In Ethiopia is now being waged a battle between modern military tactics and ancient cunning—a struggle between scientific mechanism of war on one hand and terrific natural obstacles combined with native guerrilla warfare on the other. Italy’s 300,000 fighting men in East Africa are attempting to close in on the wild domain of Ethiopia’s King of Kings and his barefooted tribesmen. But without oil and its by-products the men of Mussolini would fail.

Italy’s soldiers embarked from their homeland in troopships that burned oil. Italy’s warships, which safeguard her position in the Mediterranean, fuel with oil. Her motorized artillery, her trucks, her tanks—all these depend completely on oil and gasoline. Nor can Il Duce’s planes make bombing sorties over the Ethiopian wilderness without these essential petroleum products. Mussolini’s whole scheme of war is built around oil—and Italy, the poorest of major powers in natural resources, has no oil of her own.

Italy’s strength—her superior machinery of war—is also her weakness. It makes her utterly dependent on oil—oil which she must buy from other nations. And her supply of oil is now imperilled by the threat of sanctions which may be imposed by other powers.

That was in the 1930s.

Air Force and Navy flyers still need a full tank to deliver a full bomb load.

And war is still the most profitable racket there is.

Unfortunately, the good men and women of the United States military didn't sign up so Exxon could pocket $100 million a day.

They signed up to defend, protect and uphold the Constitution of the United States -- a very different thing, from the perspective of We the People.

1. Oil Over but the Shoutin'
Edited on Fri Sep-14-07 10:20 PM by seemslikeadream

http://www.slate.com/id/2174011/

"Once an oil law is in place, contracts will be on firmer ground, Iraq can collect more revenue, and it will be clear how that revenue is to be distributed to the various provinces. Money flowing to the regions, in turn, could help bolster provincial governments, and give people a stake in the continued functioning of the central government," writes liberal hilzoy at Obsidian Wings. "But it takes actual cooperation to produce, enact, and sign off on that sort of legislation, and cooperation has always been in short supply. If, for some unfathomable reason, we needed more evidence that the Iraqi political process is dysfunctional, we just got it."

Josh Marshall at Talking Points Memo sees cronyism leading all the way back to Texas: "The story though connects up with another one … the decision of the Kurdistan regional government to sign an oil exploration deal with Dallas-based Hunt Oil, run by Mr. Ray L. Hunt. …emember, Hunt, ... is also a pal of the president's. Indeed, President Bush has twice appointed Hunt to his Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board. So while the president is striving to get the Iraqis to meet these benchmarks one of his own pals -- and more importantly, political appointees -- is busy helping to tear the whole thing apart."

Lefty "RFK Lives" at Daily Kos
cites a much-discussed Paul Krugman editorial, which mentions the Hunt connection and concludes that the marketplace has already decided in favor of Iraq's dissolution: "While I've never worshipped at the altar of the Mighty Market, on this occasion, the markets offer the most accurate reflections of existing reality. It is extraordinarily ironic that a country that largely does worship there remains so ignorant of the fact that the markets have spoken on this literal life and death issue."

http://ww4report.com/node/4425

By putting his money into a deal with the Kurds, despite Baghdad's disapproval, he's essentially betting that the Iraqi government — which hasn’t met a single one of the major benchmarks Mr. Bush laid out in January — won't get its act together.

2. Concerding Mr. Hunt and the smart money...
From World War 4 report:

The smart money, then, knows that the surge has failed, that the war is lost, and that Iraq is going the way of Yugoslavia. And I suspect that most people in the Bush administration — maybe even Mr. Bush himself — know this, too.

8. It'll take more than a few Grand Juries, but the prosecutions are very do-able.
Here's a nice overview of the Org:

The Bush Crime Family Tree

George Walker
, GW's great-grandfather,  set up the takeover of the Hamburg-America Line, a cover for I.G. Farben's Nazi espionage unit in the United States. In Germany, I.G. Farben was most famous for putting the gas in gas chambers; it was the producer of Zyklon B and other gasses used on victims of the Holocaust. The Bush family was not unaware of the nature of their investment partners. They hired Allen Dulles, the future head of the CIA, to hide the funds they were making from Nazi investments and the funds they were sending to Nazi Germany, rather than divest. It was only in 1942, when the government seized Union Banking Company assets under the Trading With The Enemy Act, that George Walker and Prescott Bush stopped pumping money into Hitler's regime. (1)

Prescott Bush, the president's grandfather. According to classified documents from Dutch intelligence and US government archives, President George W. Bush's grandfather, Prescott Bush made considerable profits off Auschwitz slave labor. In fact, President Bush himself is an heir to these profits from the holocaust which were placed in a blind trust in 1980 by his father, former president George Herbert Walker Bush. (2) On the 20th of October, the government commenced action against the company under the trading with the enemy act. (3) After the seizures in late 1942 of five U.S. enterprises he managed on behalf of Nazi industrialist Fritz Thyssen failed to divest himself of more than a dozen "enemy national" relationships that continued until as late as 1951, newly-discovered U.S. government documents reveal. (4)  In 1952, Prescott Bush was elected to the U.S. Senate, with no press accounts about his well-concealed Nazi past.(5)

George Herbert Walker Bush, the president's father. Bush, as director of the CIA, had funneled enormous amounts of cash to drug runners including Manuel Noriega and helped in the destabilization of Argentina. Bush utilized his own connections to help fund drug runners from Laos to Panama. Most shocking was the so-called "cocaine coup" in Bolivia in June 1980, masterminded by fugitive Nazi Klaus Barbie, "The Butcher Of Lyons." Barbie, who had been previously secreted in Latin America by the CIA, began working closely with the Argentines and used drug money to finance a neo-Nazi cabal, one that succeeded in overthrowing the government. The troops swept through the capital wearing Nazi armbands, according to former DEA agent Mike Levine. George H.W. Bush later facilitated the Iran-contra affair, employing many of the same methods: secretly selling Central American cocaine in America and weapons to Iran while using the profits to fund the contras and to overthrow democratically elected socialists in Central America.(6) as the head of the CIA and later as Vice President, toppled democratically elected regimes in South and Central America and began propping up a dictator by the name of Saddam Hussein in Iraq. Although forbidden by congress to do so, he continued to sell chemical and biological weapons to Saddam even after he used them on villages of innocent civilians. A decade later The United States had to go to war against him and the Bush family again, made millions from it.

Jonathan J. Bush, the President's uncle. Jonathan Bush's "Pioneer Profile" in "George W. Bush's $100,000 Club" cites him as the "head" of the Riggs Investment Management Co.; "Bush’s uncle Jonathan ... founded its subsidiary, J. Bush & Co., of which he is chair. He also is an ex-chair of the New York Republican State Finance Committee. Bush credits the investors sent his way by this banker uncle as a key to his 'success' in the Texas oil industry in the early ‘80s." (17)

Jonathan J. Bush, is a top executive at Riggs Bank, which this week agreed to pay a record $25 million in civil fines for violations of law intended to thwart money laundering. Jonathan Bush, who is a major fundraiser for his nephew, was appointed in 2000 to run Riggs Investment Management Co. His association with Riggs began when he headed J. Bush & Co., a New Haven, Conn., company he created in 1970 and built to offer advice on money management. (18)

According to the 5/14/04 New York Times, Federal regulators fined the Riggs National Corporation, the parent company of Riggs Bank, $25 million yesterday for "failing to report suspicious activity, the largest penalty ever assessed against a domestic bank in connection with money laundering. The fine stems from Riggs's failure over at least the last two years to actively monitor suspect financial transfers through Saudi Arabian accounts held by the bank." The 5/14/04 Wall Street Journal reported that of particular concern, Riggs failed to monitor "tens of millions of dollars in cash withdrawals from accounts related to the Saudi Arabian embassy," including "suspicious incidents involving dozens of sequentially numbered cashier's checks and international drafts written by Saudi officials, including Saudi Ambassador Prince Bandar bin Sultan." According to the 4/18/04 Washington Post, Saudi Prince Bandar's wife, Princess Haifa al-Faisal, "may have used a Riggs account to donate money to a charity that then gave some of it to the Sept. 11 terrorists."
(...)

According to the nonprofit Texans for Public Justice, Jonathan Bush is the President and CEO of Riggs Investment Management - a major arm of Riggs Bank. He is also the uncle of President George W. Bush. The President "credits the investors sent his way by this banker uncle as a key to his 'success' in the Texas oil industry in the early '80s." According to Public Citizen, the uncle Jonathan was a Bush Pioneer, having raised more than $100,000 for his nephew in 2000.(19)

6. Countdown (w/o KO ) had a great segment on tonight connecting Hunt w * and
asking the question that since Hunt was privy to national intelligence reports through his position on the Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board, was it legal for him to utilize this info for self gain and whether it didn't undermine the entire central government proposal currently underway. If you missed this this-it's worth seeking out (hopefully it will be up on DU later!)

As to the million who have died for these lies, it is unconscionable that it is allowed to continue despite what is known about this regime. Tomorrow, my family and I will once again join in with many others to protest this immoral war. My young children don't even remember a time when they didn't attend anti war rallies. I would have never guessed it would have lasted so long. It is so appalling.

36. Bush-linked Texas company signs oil deal with Iraqi Kurds
Bush-linked Texas company signs oil deal with Iraqi Kurds
By Joe Kay
15 September 2007

Earlier this month, the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) in Iraq announced that it had signed a production-sharing deal with Texas-based Hunt Oil. The move is an indication that Western oil companies, frustrated over the delay in the passage of a national oil law by the Iraqi government, are moving to make deals with regional bodies to get access to Iraq’s vast oil reserves.

As significant as the deal itself is the identity of the company involved. Ray Hunt, the CEO and president of privately held Hunt Oil, is a close confidant of President Bush and a prominent figure in the US political and intelligence establishment.

To what extent the policy of the Bush administration is motivating the deal—and to what extent it is motivated by purely profit interests—cannot be determined with precision. However, the announcement comes at a time of growing strains between the Iraqi national government, led by Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, and the Bush administration. Many commentators have noted that the moves by Kurdish authorities to establish autonomy in the control of the region’s oil resources could contribute to a fracturing of the Iraqi state along sectarian lines.

<snip>

Hunt is also on the board of directors of Halliburton, the company formerly run by Vice President Dick Cheney. In 2000, Hunt was one of 241 Bush “pioneers”—meaning he raised more than $100,000 for the Bush presidential campaign. He was finance chairman for the Republican National Committee’s Victory 2000 Committee.

A report on the web site HalliburtonWatch.org from August 2004 notes that Hunt “serves as chairman of the board for the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and is a member of the National Petroleum Council, an industry trade group that advises the president on energy policy. Vice President Cheney also served as a member of the Council during his tenure as CEO for Halliburton.”

Hunt’s position on the Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board places him in close contact with the intelligence establishment in the US. In 2005, along with Hunt, Bush appointed 11 other members, including Lee Hamilton, vice chairman of the 9/11 Commission and former Democratic congressman; William DeWitt, a close Bush supporter who helped Bush make his millions in his dealings with Harken Energy and the Texas Rangers; Donald Evans, long-time Texas oil man, Bush supporter and former secretary of commerce; and Martin Faga, former director of the National Reconnaissance Office, which operates US spy satellites.

<snip>

http://www.wsws.org/articles/2007/sep2007/hunt-s15.shtml

Ray Hunt became a member of the EDS Board of Directors on 07 June 1996. He is currently chairman of the board, president and CEO of Hunt Consolidated, Inc. and other related companies, and is CEO of Hunt Oil Company.

With respect to government service, Hunt was appointed by President George W. Bush to the President’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board in October 2001 and again in January 2006. He is immediate past chairman of the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. He is a member of the National Petroleum Council (an industry advisory organization to the Secretary of Energy) and served as its chairman from June 1991 to July 1994.

Hunt serves as a member of the boards of directors of Bessemer Securities Corporation, King Ranch, Inc., PepsiCo, Inc. and Verde Realty. Within the oil and gas industry, Hunt is a member of the board of directors of the American Petroleum Institute and serves on its Policy Committee.

Hunt also serves as a member of the board of trustees of the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C., The Cooper Institute and Southern Methodist University. He is currently chairman of the board of trustees of Dallas Medical Resource and a member of the executive committee of the Southwestern Medical Foundation in Dallas.

http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Ray_L._Hunt

Hunt joined the Halliburton Company Board in 1998. He is Chairman of the Compensation Committee and member of the Audit and the Management Oversight Committees. He also serves as a member of the boards of directors of PepsiCo, Inc., King Ranch, Inc., Electronic Data Systems Corporation, the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, and Security Capital Group Incorporated.

In 1987, Hunt was given The Order of Marib by the government of the Republic of Yemen. He is the only non-Yemeni ever to be so designated.

44. And confirmed by Alan Greenspan...
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/article2461214.ece

"However, it is his view on the motive for the 2003 Iraq invasion that is likely to provoke the most controversy. “I am saddened that it is politically inconvenient to acknowledge what everyone knows: the Iraq war is largely about oil,” he says."

And will continue to be unless Congress puts a stop to it. Now. Not after the elections in 2008. If Pelosi still refuses to begin impeachment proceedings, her constituents, if they really care about the future of this country, will move to recall her.

As for Hillary Clinton and every other member of Congress, they had an obligation to verify the veracity of what was presented to them them prior to approving the war. They did not. The blood of over a million innocent Iraqis is on their hands as well.

4. War Is a Racket.
Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler, USMC (Ret.) pegged it.

WAR IS A RACKET

by Two-Time Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient:
Major General Smedley D. Butler, USMC (Retired)

WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives.

A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of the people. Only a small "inside" group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war a few people make huge fortunes.

In the World War (I) a mere handful garnered the profits of the conflict. At least 21,000 new millionaires and billionaires were made in the United States during the World War. That many admitted their huge blood gains in their income tax returns. How many other war millionaires falsified their tax returns no one knows.

How many of these war millionaires shouldered a rifle? How many of them dug a trench? How many of them knew what it meant to go hungry in a rat-infested dug-out? How many of them spent sleepless, frightened nights, ducking shells and shrapnel and machine gun bullets? How many of them parried a bayonet thrust of an enemy? How many of them were wounded or killed in battle?

Out of war nations acquire additional territory, if they are victorious. They just take it. This newly acquired territory promptly is exploited by the few – the selfsame few who wrung dollars out of blood in the war. The general public shoulders the bill.

And what is this bill?

This bill renders a horrible accounting. Newly placed gravestones. Mangled bodies. Shattered minds. Broken hearts and homes. Economic instability. Depression and all its attendant miseries. Back-breaking taxation for generations and generations.

41. Here's a link to the documentary
The Plot to Overthrow FDR

and I just found out now when I was looking around to see if a used copy was still available (I got mine as a photocopy of an old paperback...) The book the doc is based on, by Jules Archer is back in print as of last spring.

Signet also brought Sinclair Lewis' book "It Can't Happen Here" back into print a few years ago after requests for the same. Whether they agree or not, publishers have their eye on the zeitgeist ...for a sizeable portion of americans who actually read.

I've tried to collect all the books about BCCI that I could find. They're in a big mess of other books right now, but this thread makes me think I should dig them out again.

Octafish and blm - I remember, back in 2003, etc. that you were both getting info out to people about the alliances that know no loyalties other than $$$$. I also remember one of the books I read, by the Time Mag. guys -- called Outlaw Bank -- talked about Bush Sr. selling nuclear components to Pakistan, and about the way he pretended he didn't know Prince Turki al-Faisa, who was head of Saudi intel when Bush was at the CIA. Prince Turki resigned from his post as ambassador to the U.S. in 2006. Bandar won a power struggle with Turki. Bandar favors the neo-con approach to Iran while Turki wanted negotiations. SA dislikes Iran more than they dislike Israel. This must surely be one more reason the neo-cons are trying to sell another unecessary war.

10. Cheney Starts New Cold War Over Oil

Cheney Starts New Cold War Over Oil

One of the oddest reactions to Vice President Cheney's now-infamous speech in Lithuania, the one which many Russians believe officially heralded the start of a new Cold War, came from the mainstream American media. What was so strange? They actually did their job.

Instead of simply parroting the Administration's latest pieties, they actually allowed themselves to smell a rat. And what a putrid, bloated, rotting-in-a-flooded-Manila-gutter rat odor it was! You'd have to have been literally brain dead not to have smelled it.

The rat of course was the insane hypocrisy of a foaming fascist like Dick Cheney suddenly getting all Amnesty International righteous over a bad regime that does bad things. The fact that Cheney flew straight to Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan right after squirting over Russia's human rights problems turned the rank hypocrisy into a bad black comedy routine, barely fit for even a Tom Green. Kazakhstan is a country where opposition politicians and media aren't merely jailed, exiled or cowed as they are in Russia, but are shot and dumped in forests, Miller's Crossing-style, on behalf of a despot whose family runs the country like its own fiefdom.

Azerbaijan is even worse, if such a thing can be imagined not only because the Azeri authorities brutally suppress pro-democracy protests, but because it is the first and only post-Soviet state to officially create a despotic family dynasty. After former leader Heydar Aliyev died in office, he passes power (along with control over the country's vast oil wealth) to his son, Ilham Aliyev, in 2003, a dynastic transfer that was then "legimitized" by rigged elections that the Bush administration somehow manages each time to view as a democracy cup 1/100 full rather than 99/100 empty.

Incredibly enough, a few members of the mainstream American press were shocked into action by Cheney's crackpipe hypocrisy. On May 9th, the normally anti-Putin New York Times published an editorial titled, "Cheney as Pot, Putin as Kettle," tepidly calling into question Cheney's bizarre meta-irony act: "spearing Russia while flirting with its even more undemocratic neighbors confuses the message, especially when done by a vice president identified with oil interests." Tepid, but at least a rare acknowledgement of Cheney's insane logic.

The hypocrisy was so bizarre and brazen that even bland newswire agency AP got in on the outting bandwagon, with a May 8th article, "Analysis: Cheney promotes democratic reform everywhere but oil-rich Kazakhstan." You'd almost think that the American media actually questions its leaders' motives!

Bush to mother: Don’t sell on eBay

Posted by Mark Silva at 2:30 pm CDT

Several mothers who have lost children at war in Iraq took part in a new talk show today on National Public Radio.

One of them, Elaine Johnson, recounted a meeting that she had with President Bush in which he gave her a presidential coin and told her and five other families: "Don’t go sell it on eBay.”

An excerpt from the interview on NPR's Tell Me More can be heard here.

SNIP...

"Then he gave us a presidential coin," she said. "Now you check this out: He gave six of us a presidential coin, tell us not to tell the rest of the people that was there, and then after that he told us, 'Don’t go sell it on eBay.' Now you tell me how insensitive that can be? What kind of caring person is that?"

14. As the primaries approach, dont forget...
that he was handed a loaded weapon and was given ammo as he asked for it. I think too many people forget that the innocent deaths could have been prevented but too many politicians were afraid to lose political support and were afraid it would damage their careers. I cant understand why only Dennis Kucinich that has been against the war from the beginning, he did read the report and make a great decision to not allow bush to kill innocent people and he continues to be ignored. I know that admitting that makes it feel weird to support one of the candidates that helped bush along while ignoring Kucinich who did not. But hey, the media has a strong hold on Americans and it looks like we will follow their lead and continue on this path to destroy our own country. At least we will all feel good blaming everything on bush though :sarcasm:

I hope we can all look into our hearts before placing that important vote in the primaries.

17. Behold the Rise of Energy-Based Fascism

There are two big reasons for the, um, bipartisan nature of war:

Power and Profit.

Behold the Rise of Energy-Based Fascism

The Pentagon is helping to create a grim future for all of us: a struggle for energy primacy abroad and Big Brother at home.

By Michael T. Klare, Tomdispatch.com. Posted January 20, 2007.

It has once again become fashionable for the dwindling supporters of President Bush's futile war in Iraq to stress the danger of "Islamo-fascism" and the supposed drive by followers of Osama bin Laden to establish a monolithic, Taliban-like regime -- a "Caliphate" -- stretching from Gibraltar to Indonesia. The President himself has employed this term on occasion over the years, using it to describe efforts by Muslim extremists to create "a totalitarian empire that denies all political and religious freedom." While there may indeed be hundreds, even thousands, of disturbed and suicidal individuals who share this delusional vision, the world actually faces a far more substantial and universal threat, which might be dubbed: Energo-fascism, or the militarization of the global struggle over ever-diminishing supplies of energy.

Unlike Islamo-fascism, Energo-fascism will, in time, affect nearly every person on the planet. Either we will be compelled to participate in or finance foreign wars to secure vital supplies of energy, such as the current conflict in Iraq; or we will be at the mercy of those who control the energy spigot, like the customers of the Russian energy juggernaut Gazprom in Ukraine, Belarus, and Georgia; or sooner or later we may find ourselves under constant state surveillance, lest we consume more than our allotted share of fuel or engage in illicit energy transactions. This is not simply some future dystopian nightmare, but a potentially all-encompassing reality whose basic features, largely unnoticed, are developing today.

These include:
    • The transformation of the U.S. military into a global oil protection service whose primary mission is to defend America's overseas sources of oil and natural gas, while patrolling the world's major pipelines and supply routes.

    • The transformation of Russia into an energy superpower with control over Eurasia's largest supplies of oil and natural gas and the resolve to convert these assets into ever increasing political influence over neighboring states.

    • A ruthless scramble among the great powers for the remaining oil, natural gas, and uranium reserves of Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, and Asia, accompanied by recurring military interventions, the constant installation and replacement of client regimes, systemic corruption and repression, and the continued impoverishment of the great majority of those who have the misfortune to inhabit such energy-rich regions.

    • Increased state intrusion into, and surveillance of, public and private life as reliance on nuclear power grows, bringing with it an increased threat of sabotage, accident, and the diversion of fissionable materials into the hands of illicit nuclear proliferators.

Together, these and related phenomena constitute the basic characteristics of an emerging global Energo-fascism. Disparate as they may seem, they all share a common feature: increasing state involvement in the procurement, transportation, and allocation of energy supplies, accompanied by a greater inclination to employ force against those who resist the state's priorities in these areas. As in classical twentieth century fascism, the state will assume ever greater control over all aspects of public and private life in pursuit of what is said to be an essential national interest: the acquisition of sufficient energy to keep the economy functioning and public services (including the military) running.

SNIP...

The Pentagon: A Global Oil-Protection Service

The most significant expression of this trend has been the transformation of the U.S. military into a global oil-protection service whose primary function is the guarding of overseas energy supplies as well as their global delivery systems (pipelines, tanker ships, and supply routes). This overarching mission was first articulated by President Jimmy Carter in January 1980, when he described the oil flow from the Persian Gulf as a "vital interest" of the United States, and affirmed that this country would employ "any means necessary, including military force" to overcome an attempt by a hostile power to block that flow.

When President Carter issued this edict, quickly dubbed the Carter Doctrine, the United States did not actually possess any forces capable of performing this role in the Gulf. To fill this gap, Carter created a new entity, the Rapid Deployment Joint Task Force (RDJTF), an ad hoc assortment of U.S-based forces designated for possible employment in the Middle East. In 1983, President Reagan transformed the RDJTF into the Central Command (Centcom), the name it bears today. Centcom exercises command authority over all U.S. combat forces deployed in the greater Persian Gulf area including Afghanistan and the Horn of Africa. At present, Centcom is largely preoccupied with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but it has never given up its original role of guarding the oil flow from the Persian Gulf in accordance with the Carter Doctrine.

The greatest danger to the Persian Gulf oil flow is now said to emanate from Iran, which has threatened to choke off all oil shipments through the vital Strait of Hormuz (the narrow passageway at the mouth of the Gulf) in the event of an American air assault on its nuclear facilities. In possible anticipation of such a move, the Pentagon recently ordered additional air and naval forces into the Gulf and replaced General John Abizaid, the Centcom Commander, who favored diplomatic engagement with Iran and Syria, with Admiral William Fallon, the Commander of the Pacific Command (Pacom) and an expert in combined air and naval operations. Fallon arrived at Centcom just as President Bush, in a nationally televised speech on January 10, announced the deployment of an additional carrier battle group to the Gulf and warned of harsh military action against Iran if it failed to halt its support for insurgents in Iraq and its pursuit of uranium-enrichment technology.

When first promulgated in 1980, the Carter Doctrine was aimed principally at the Persian Gulf and surrounding waters. In recent years, however, American policymakers have concluded that the United States must extend this kind of protection to every major oil-producing region in the developing world. The logic for a Carter Doctrine on a global scale was first spelled out in a bipartisan task force report, "The Geopolitics of Energy," published by the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in November 2000. Because the United States and its allies are becoming increasingly dependent on energy supplies from unstable overseas suppliers, the report concluded, "he geopolitical risks attendant to energy availability are not likely to abate." Under these circumstances, "the United States, as the world's only superpower, must accept its special responsibilities for preserving access to worldwide energy supply."

30. US military oil pains
I'm all for having the strongest military in the world,

but not at the price of killing innocent people for their oil.

Whatever happened to "buying" stuff? Like Sunni and Shia, the word must be something else Bush never heard about.

US military oil pains

by Sohbet Karbuz

As of September 30, 2005 the US Air Force had 5,986 aircraft in service. (1)

At the beginning of 2006 the US Navy had 285 combat and support ships, and around 4,000 operational aircraft (planes and helicopters). (2)

At the end of 2005, the US Army had a combat vehicle fleet of approximately 28,000 armored vehicles (tracked vehicles such as Abrams tanks and Bradley Fighting Vehicles)(3). Besides those the Army and the Marine corps have tactical wheeled vehicles such as 140,000 High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles. The US Army has also over 4,000 combat helicopters and several hundred fixed wing aircraft.

Add all those also 187,493 fleet vehicles (4) (passenger cars, busses, light trucks etc) the US Department of Defense (DOD) uses.

The issue is that except for 80 nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers, almost all military fleet (including the ones that will be joining in the next decade) run on oil.

Yes, the US military is completely addicted to oil. Unsurprisingly, its oil consumption for aircraft, ships, ground vehicles and facilities makes the Pentagon the single largest oil consumer in the world. By the way, according to the 2006 CIA World Factbook rankings there are only 35 countries (out of 210) in the world that consume more oil per day than the Pentagon.

An interesting point is that even though there are only a few data sources, how much oil the Pentagon really consumes is still kind of puzzle, at least to me.(5)

According to recently released ?Annual Energy Management Report?, in Fiscal Year 2006 the Pentagon consumed 320,000 barrels per day of site delivered oil, compared to about 360,000 barrels per day in 2005. Note that these and all other official figures do not include fuel obtained at no cost overseas(6), fuel consumed by contractors(7), fuel consumed in some leased and privatized facilities, and not last but least oil consumed by certain leased and rented fleet vehicles.

While the official figures for military oil consumption went down in 2006, the costs went to the sky. In 2005 DoD had spent slightly over $8.5 billion for oil but this figure reached $17 billion in 2006. Note that oil accounts for 85% of the DoD?s $20 billion energy consumption costs in 2006.

20. War is a racket and oil rackets are the most profitable
Remember the role the Berlin-Baghdad railway played in World War I. Even though the official history denies that WWI had anything to do with it, it was the major economic reason for that war and the first troops of the British army got stationed at Basra to protect the oil. That railway line would have given Germany access to the oil in Iraq.

The first World War was also about the OIL IN IRAQ! The world had to be divided into those who had oil and those who didn't have oil. That was the beginning of the 20th century and the start of wars for oil!

The Berlin-Baghdad Railway

...

Throughout the years during which the railway was debated and the European Powers struggled to contain the Kaiser's ambitions, the seeds of distrust and malice were slowly and irrevocably sown. Combined with other sources of friction, including Germany's effort to rival Great Britian's sea power, this distrust was easily transformed into war. According to Morris Jastrow in "The War and the Bagdad Railway," the railway, which should have functioned to bring nations together as a medium for exchanging ideas and merchandise, was a primary cause of pulling them apart, leading them to mutual destruction.

By way of intrigue and deception, Germany brought Turkey into World War One and set it against Britian in the Middle East. The prizes were Egypt and the Suez Canal, which would mean control of the flow of oil from Persia and rubber from India. Great Britian, tenaciously clinging to its hold in the region, was at first thwarted in Mesopotomia and set with its back against Suez in Sinia. Eventually, she recovered, fought back, and defeated the Ottomans and their German allies.

The Baghdad Railway, its completion delayed for 18 years by economic attacks, strugged to be a contributing factor to the Turco-German military forces in the region. Throughout the war, track was laid and new spurs were planned.

31. President John F. Kennedy on Peace in the Middle East and Henry Kissinger
By the golden crown of Rev Moon, I am ashamed to admit that I had not put the two together before, DrDebug.

So, World War I was more than a mere piling-on of Napoleanic hatreds after Sarajevo. For nations, check that -- for empires, controlling the black gold is, indeed, the Great Game.

Here's some forgotten history for you, my Friend. What President Kennedy said about Henry Kissinger and about peace in the oil-rich region:

President John F. Kennedy
Secret White House Recordings

One-hundred and two hours of President Kennedy White House recordings archived on CD-ROM. These recordings date from July 30, 1962 to November 7, 1963.

EXCERPT...

In a 4/27/63 meeting on the Middle East examines the situation in Jordan involving a possible coup and the reactions of the United Arab Republic (UAR) and Israel. President Kennedy is very concerned that the situation in the Middle East could escalate quickly. One of the President's advisors says to him: "Our real problem today in the Near East is that neither Israel nor the Arabs have any kind of plan to get themselves out of the box of active hostility." The White House is aware that certain moves by the United States may be interpreted by Middle East nations as being too pro-Israeli. President Kennedy says: "Our interest is not solely a concern of Israel but really a concern for their future that there's going to be a 90-day war and we assume that they don't really want that, we want it to be understood in advance that it's not just because of our concern about Israel. Our concern is mutual because the peril is mutual."

The subject of a Kennedy 1964 re-election campaign, which never took place, can be heard on the recordings. In these recordings, informal discussions provide listeners with the opportunity to hear President Kennedy discuss issues in a personal and relaxed setting, the sounds of the President's rocking chair rocking can be heard in the background. Adlai Stevenson, Ambassador to the U.N., and the President have an informal meeting on 4/22/63 to discuss numerous foreign policy issues, including Cuba as the leading 1964 campaign issue for the Republicans, highlighted in recent speeches by Richard Nixon. Nixon is also mentioned in the President's meeting with writer and editor Norman Cousins. In the meeting with Adlai Stevenson, the President refers to a recent Richard Nixon speech as "pure Nixon, he just runs so true to form that he really ought to be preserved." When Ambassador Stevenson asks whether Nixon is really a menace politically, the President responds: "No, he's no menace. But the lies. Cuba is obviously the issue." During the meeting with outgoing U.S. Ambassador to Germany Walter C. Dowling on 4/26/63, the President mentions Henry Kissinger's recent article in The Reporter on the Multilateral Force, commenting, "I think he's doing this stuff for Rockefeller." Nelson Rockefeller was considered to be a likely 1964 Republican candidate for president.

32. Empire and oil even break up allies: 2004 Equatorial Guinea
Thanks for all your stories because human rats like Henry K and George W cannot stand daylight and shiffer when confronted with the truth.

I believe that France was still a NATO member in 2004, yet that little detail didn't matter when the United States, Spain and the United Kingdom attempted to steal their oil...

France Checkmated NATO
The Oil Dispute in Equatorial Guinea
ARTHUR LEPIC

The spectacular arrest of Mark Thatcher (British Iron Lady’s son) in South Africa and the confessions of his accomplices in Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea clarified completely the fail coup against this country. The operation was not organized by adventurers or mercenaries paid by international financiers, but by NATO. The U.S. had mobilized the British and Spanish services to overthrow President Teodoro Obiang and take control of the country to build the largest gas-liquefying station of the world. By doing this, the U.S. would have taken the French oil company Total out of the market thus favoring Spanish Repsol. But France knew about the operation and made it fail. (...)

Airline Triple A Aviation was linked to Thatcher’s activities for it seemed that Sir Thatcher used it to transfer some $275 000 of the operation funds. It seemed that the airline signed on January 2004 an agreement on aviation services with Logo Logistics, Simon Mann’s company. The bank records proved that $100,000 were transferred to Logo’s account on March 2,2004; only two days before the fail coup. Although South Africa rejected the Iron Lady’s son extradition to Equatorial Guinea, investigators could question him in South African territory. Sir Thatcher was prepared to leave South Africa, where he has lived since 1996, to avoid a tax investigation. His residency was already on sale for 4.5 million dollars and his family’s airline tickets for the U.S. were booked when he was arrested by the Scorpions. (...)

NATO at the Service of the Oil Coalition

But this was not the end of the story. Beyond Mark Thatcher’s personality, who’s been the focus of attention, the true actors began to appear NATO and France waged a strategic battle that reminded people of the Iraqi situation, another country among those not very common anymore which offered solid perspectives regarding energy investment recovery (...) For instance, it’s been known that American oil company Marathon Oil was to invest 1,000 million dollars in a liquified gas terminal project in Equatorial Guinea. However, certain experts, who noticed that this was the largest project on the liquified gas field in the world, estimated that in real life the contract was a 3 000 million dollar deal.

(...) At the moment in which the plan entered its final stage and mercenaries were ready to act, two Spanish warships suddenly set sail from a NATO base in Rota, with 500 elite soldiers on board. It seemed that only they knew what their destiny was and Spain had not sent any warship to Equatorial Guinea since the independence of this African country in 1968. The direction of the two ships was controlled by the Commander in Chief of the Command of the American forces in Europe and NATO Supreme commander, General James L. Jones.

(...) On the other hand, French intelligence services had the chance of intervening by informing South African and/or Zimbabwe’s authorities at the right time thus allowing them to capture the mercenaries on their way to Malabo and, at the same time, protect the interests of the French oil company Total. Currently, it is a pleasure for Zapatero’s government to assist the South African justice. Thirty years ago, by following a Frederick Forsyth-styled plan, a few skillful and unscrupulous mercenaries could have guaranteed a nice retirement for themselves. Today, for a few more barrels it is NATO, on behalf of the very same oil coalition that invaded Iraq, the one that launched itself on an adventure pushed by the international financial institutions.

(...)

33. So Iraq Was About the Oil
From Robert Parry, light from November 2005 ... a time when "only" 350,000 people had died -- including about 2,000 American service men and women.

This war has killed a lot more than human beings, though.
Remember the United States of America?

So Iraq Was About the Oil

By Robert Parry
November 8, 2005

When Colin Powell’s former chief of staff Lawrence Wilkerson publicly decried the Bush administration’s bungling of U.S. foreign policy, the focus of the press coverage was on Wilkerson’s depiction of a “cabal” headed by Vice President Dick Cheney that had hijacked the decision-making process.

Largely overlooked were Wilkerson’s frank admissions about the importance of oil in justifying a long-term U.S. military intervention in Iraq. “The other thing that no one ever likes to talk about is SUVs and oil and consumption,” the retired Army colonel said in a speech on Oct. 19.

SNIP...

After al-Qaeda’s Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks, Bush had the political opening he needed to turn his designs on Iraq into reality. Though there was no credible evidence connecting Hussein to al-Qaeda and Sept. 11, Bush and Cheney made the linkage anyway.

Active preparations for war with Iraq were soon underway. Behind the scenes, O’Neill said he watched as the administration refined its plans for how to divvy up Iraq’s oil reserves after the invasion.

“Documents were being prepared by the Defense Intelligence Agency, (Defense Secretary Donald) Rumsfeld’s intelligence arm, mapping Iraq’s oil fields and exploration areas and listing companies that might be interested in leveraging the precious asset,” Suskind wrote in The Price of Loyalty.

Beyond giving U.S. firms access to Iraq’s oil, the Bush administration recognized how the oil could help induce both allies and rivals to back broader U.S. policies.

“One document, headed ‘Foreign Suitors for Iraqi Oilfield Contracts,’ lists companies from 30 countries – including France, Germany, Russia and the United Kingdom – their specialties, bidding histories, and in some cases their particular areas of interest,” Suskind wrote in recounting O’Neill’s observations.

“An attached document maps Iraq with markings for ‘supergiant oilfield,’ ‘other oilfield,’ and ‘earmarked for production sharing,’ while demarking the largely undeveloped southwest of the country into nine ‘blocks’ to designate areas for future exploration.

A Planet Full of Hitlers

A Planet Full of Hitlers

The world's billionaires, led by the Bush "madministration," are acting like a planet of full of Hitlers. They are willing to invade whatever region in the world has what the world needs most -- oil.

Black gold. Texas tea. Petrodollars.

They figure they have all the money. And basically, apart from a Soros here and a Gates there, they do.

And thus, the world’s billionaires and their hounds of the BFEE want to spend it all before they die. And they have the plan and cash on hand to do so.

Consider the Bush agenda: All War. All the Time. Government spending for the MI-Complex, transferring trillions to the wealthy corporate owners, war and all.

These are the likes of the “industrialists” Mussolini, Franco and Hitler so loved.

And like the fascist trifecta, the American fascists of the BFEE have bought all the political power. Don't just think Tom Roach Motel DeLay and Mr. Friskie Frist. Remember Prescott Bush and Averell Harriman and Allen Dulles and Rheinhard Gehlen and Igor Orlov.

What can we do about it? They’ve bought all the legal power, built law schools for Federalist Society AND Opus Dei judges. Think Bill Eagle Eye Rehnquist and Antonin Fat Tony Scalia.

These turds of the BFEE have worked all the tax breaks and bankrupty laws for the rich. Uncle Sam reverse-Robin Hoods wealth to the top 1-percent of country.

And what do these rich turds who prop up Bush use their tax savings on? They certainly haven't invested it in making America a better place to work or live; they've invested in "off-shoring."

Lots of the tax money goes to buy more vacation homes, yachts and jet planes. Most goes offshore to the Caymans and Switzerland.

And of course they want more without having to pay for the damage to the environment. Farmland depletion in the USA. Rain forest depletion around the globe. Oceans getting acidic. Fish stock depletion. Global air pollution and water shortages.

Well. OK. Maybe a case can be made it’s the rich folk’s money. They can do what they want. But they should pay their fair share of taxes! After all, the rest of society helps keep them in their position. And its our brothers and sisters in the armed forces who are giving their lives to keep their oil and power and privilege.

Budget red ink means no money for middle class. No money for schools. No money for cities and suburbs and farms. No money for roads. No money for science and R and D. No money for the future.

And the media? What media? What Fairness Doctrine?

They cover up their materialism and venality with all the talk about Faith-based this and Conservative-values that. But the reality is these are sinister wolves and satanic bed-wetting bastards in sheep's clothing we are dealing with.

Wasn’t that what Bush really meant when he told Bob Woodward “History? Who cares about history? In a hundred years we’ll all be dead.”

Just like Hitler. And just like Hitler, Bush wants to take us all with him.

16. The PLANET will survive

The people won't. Earth doesn't care about us. Biodiversity will flourish when humanity leaves the building.

Actually, I don't even think the human race can be wiped out. Weapons will be deployed unevenly; and people will figure out places to hide. There may be only a few hundred thousand left, but we've been there before. There have been multiple near-extinctions in our past.

This nasty thing called consciousness is why slow, weak, naked, clawless, allergy-prone us are the dominant thing on the planet, and it will make us destroy ourselves and everything else we can, and then it will make us pop up again and start the whole thing over.

5. To Be Fair...

I wouldn't compare these people to Hitler. Hitler rebuilt his country's economy and did what he did, as depraved as it ended up being, because he felt it was for the good of the German people. The American Oil Plutocracy makes Hitler look good by comparison, because the atrocities they commit are done out of nothing but greed and desire for personal gain

42. PRESCOTT BUSH AND THE GOLDEN AGE OF WAR PROFITEERING
Wish I'd posted that, Joanne98.

Wish I'd written this, too, something that explains where the crime family picked up its values:

PRESCOTT BUSH AND THE GOLDEN AGE OF WAR PROFITEERING

by Randy Reynolds
Friday, April 13, 2007

When the Remingtons, duPonts, Rockefellers, Mellons, J.P. Morgan, George Herbert Walker, Samuel Bush and Prescott Bush, as well as other representatives of America's corporate elite decided to overthrow the government of the United States in 1934, they recruited retired Marine General Smedley Butler to lead it.

Butler was a two-time winner of the Medal of Honor, a man with a first-rate mind. He intended from the outset to infiltrate the group and turn them in. He did so and Congress held hearings, (the McCormack-Dickstein Hearings) headed by future Speaker John McCormack.

The group had planned to replace President Franklin Roosevelt with someone who would at first be called an "Assistant to the President" to take over the day-to-day operations of government. Remington would supply the arms, Smedley would get the "bonus army"--a half million World War I veterans--to march on Washington and Roosevelt would be shunted aside as Chancellor Hitler (much admired by America's industrialists) had done to President Hindenburg in Germany.

The group intended to establish a Fascist regime that would send undesirables, including the unemployed, the Jews and political opponents to concentration and/or extermination camps.

Portions of the coup were carried out. The group paid to "own" the editorial policy of 25 major newspapers and sent fellow-plotters to help edit those papers.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce (co-founded by Samuel Bush) publicly proposed a plan to control "subversion" that would resemble the Patriot Act of Bush's great-grandson's Presidency in 2001.

After General Butler collected names and details, he went public. The story was a sensation for a couple of days, but was quickly pushed off the front pages by a "red scare"--stories of Communist infiltration of the IWW Union.

In the McCormack-Dickstein hearings, none of the powerful citizens involved in the plot was called to testify. They were above that sort of thing.

Although Prescott Bush was a lowly tire salesman when he married Dorothy Walker, his fortunes had quickly improved. His father-in-law George Herbert Walker elevated him to the vice-presidency of Brown Brothers Harriman, which financed exports of gold, steel, weapons and people to Nazi Germany.

Bush ran Hamburg-American passenger line on which American Nazi sympathizers emigrated to Germany under the tutelage of a Nazi "political director." Bush also helped organize and run UBC, a bank holding company that oversaw many of Hitler's worldwide investments.

From tire salesman to Hitler's chief banker and exporter in America, Prescott Bush had come a long way by the time Hamburg-American and UBC were confiscated by the U.S. government. Instead of being tried for treason, his name was kept out of the spotlight and he was given 1.5 million dollars for his one share of stock in UBC.

Five years after World War II, a Connecticut senator died. Prescott Bush who maintained residences in four different states ran for the vacant seat and lost. Two years later another Connecticut senator died, and this time, Bush won.

He personally recruited Dwight D. Eisenhower to run for president. He and his fellow war profiteers would be bitterly disappointed by Eisenhower's warnings against the military-industrial complex....but that was in the future.

39. And where are the links in this to the Democrats?
You think the Democrats didn't know and don't know? What is really behind this "off the table" position of Pelosi's? Do you think this agenda of the Bushes was carried out without any Democrats in Congress knowing it? And possibly participating in it?

Who set the Bushes above the law? Then and now? When will someone hold them accountable under the law? How many millions have been killed by this family whose patriarch believed in eugenics and eugenics by war? The latter something to think about with regard to Iraq. And everywhere else they have installed a friendly dictator.

Why is impeachment off the table, Madame Speaker?

46. Bush started talking about ''Invading Iraq'' from Day 1, too.
That's what his Treasury Secretary, Paul O'Neill, said:

Bush Sought ‘Way’ To Invade Iraq?

CBS News
Jan. 11, 2004

EXCERPT...

In the book, O’Neill says that the president did not make decisions in a methodical way: there was no free-flow of ideas or open debate.

At cabinet meetings, he says the president was "like a blind man in a roomful of deaf people. There is no discernible connection," forcing top officials to act "on little more than hunches about what the president might think."

This is what O'Neill says happened at his first hour-long, one-on-one meeting with Mr. Bush: “I went in with a long list of things to talk about, and I thought to engage on and as the book says, I was surprised that it turned out me talking, and the president just listening … As I recall, it was mostly a monologue.”

He also says that President Bush was disengaged, at least on domestic issues, and that disturbed him. And he says that wasn't his experience when he worked as a top official under Presidents Nixon and Ford, or the way he ran things when he was chairman of Alcoa.

O'Neill readily agreed to tell his story to the book's author Ron Suskind – and he adds that he's taking no money for his part in the book.

Suskind says he interviewed hundreds of people for the book – including several cabinet members.

O'Neill is the only one who spoke on the record, but Suskind says that someone high up in the administration – Donald Rumsfeld - warned O’Neill not to do this book.

Was it a warning, or a threat?

“I don't think so. I think it was the White House concerned,” says Suskind. “Understandably, because O'Neill has spent extraordinary amounts of time with the president. They said, ‘This could really be the one moment where things are revealed.’"

Not only did O'Neill give Suskind his time, he gave him 19,000 internal documents.

“Everything's there: Memoranda to the President, handwritten "thank you" notes, 100-page documents. Stuff that's sensitive,” says Suskind, adding that in some cases, it included transcripts of private, high-level National Security Council meetings. “You don’t get higher than that.”

And what happened at President Bush's very first National Security Council meeting is one of O'Neill's most startling revelations.

“From the very beginning, there was a conviction, that Saddam Hussein was a bad person and that he needed to go,” says O’Neill, who adds that going after Saddam was topic "A" 10 days after the inauguration - eight months before Sept. 11.

“From the very first instance, it was about Iraq. It was about what we can do to change this regime,” says Suskind. “Day one, these things were laid and sealed.”

As treasury secretary, O'Neill was a permanent member of the National Security Council. He says in the book he was surprised at the meeting that questions such as "Why Saddam?" and "Why now?" were never asked.

"It was all about finding a way to do it. That was the tone of it. The president saying ‘Go find me a way to do this,’" says O’Neill. “For me, the notion of pre-emption, that the U.S. has the unilateral right to do whatever we decide to do, is a really huge leap.”

48. Alan Greenspan claims Iraq war was really for oil
Edited on Sat Sep-15-07 11:18 PM by Octafish
First, you're welcome, my Friend!

Second, our pals at Buzzflash.com just pointed this out:

Alan Greenspan claims Iraq war was really for oil

Graham Paterson

AMERICA’s elder statesman of finance, Alan Greenspan, has shaken the White House by declaring that the prime motive for the war in Iraq was oil.

In his long-awaited memoir, to be published tomorrow, Greenspan, a Republican whose 18-year tenure as head of the US Federal Reserve was widely admired, will also deliver a stinging critique of President George W Bush’s economic policies.

However, it is his view on the motive for the 2003 Iraq invasion that is likely to provoke the most controversy. “I am saddened that it is politically inconvenient to acknowledge what everyone knows: the Iraq war is largely about oil,” he says.

Greenspan, 81, is understood to believe that Saddam Hussein posed a threat to the security of oil supplies in the Middle East.

Many DUer's know the history of these criminals, fascists and traitors called the BFEE.

They will continue to kill, destroy and rob as long as their corruption prevents accountability-just like the Third Reich and other examples of what a culture of death dominated organization of universal fascists illustrated.

It's information warfare time with what has been shared among us here for years.

Here's a compilation of some of the DUer's that know their BFEE threads that should be used as indictments-if nothing else they are weapons of truth.

49. Killing millions is nothing to a Holocaust denier like Bush.
They've got guns, hate, fear and what ever thing. Who cares. Thanks to you, Bob, we got the Truth. And that's what will beat the nuked turds.

The drunken nutjob won't face reality. When touring Auschwitz, George W Bush asked his guide "do people challenge the accuracy of what you present?"

Revise and Conquer:

Bush Family History Makes Strange Bedfellows

Chris Floyd
Originally published in June 6, 2003 edition of The Moscow Times.
Tuesday, October 11, 2005

Holocaust revisionism took decades to rear its ugly head, but the whitewashers of war crimes in the Bush Regime are trying to pervert the facts of history mere weeks after their Leader triumphantly declared "mission accomplished" in the war on Iraq. "Weapons of mass destruction?" Never heard of 'em. Never mentioned 'em. Maybe we'll find some. Not that important. Time to move on. Hey, how about a tax cut?

But even as revisionist-in-chief George W. Bush was staging his somber photo-op in Auschwitz last week, the web of lies he and his little buddy Tony Blair concocted to "justify" launching an act of military aggression – on the very Hitlerian grounds of "preventive war" – was being shredded by their own intelligence services. In an unprecedented move, U.S and British spies went public to denounce the cartoonish manipulation of professional intelligence data by the war-hungry leaders. Reports of Saddam's "imminent threat" were "sexed up" on Blair's order, said UK spooks, while American agents said Bush was spoonfed a stew of uncorroborated confabulation by a "special team" of ideological hatchet-men overseen by Pentagon honcho Don Rumsfeld. Congressional and Parliamentary probes are now afoot.

In the end, the "weapons of mass destruction" that the Christian Coalition had sworn were "armed and ready" to unleash unspeakable carnage on the world turned out to be – by Bush's own admission – a couple of trucks, which contained not a speck of hazardous material. Not exactly the fearsome arsenal the Dear Leader had invoked, in ever-increasing detail, throughout the long buildup to aggression. The actual CIA report which Bush cited was even more – or rather, less – revealing, noting that the trucks' designs were in fact consistent with their stated purpose: the production of hydrogen for weather balloons, Slate.com reports.

Thus revisionism – panicky, cynical, maladroit – was the order of the day. Rumsfeld – whose smirking rictus of iron certainty was a mainstay of the drive to war – began backing off big-time. Maybe there weren't any WMD, he shrugged; maybe Saddam destroyed them before the war. Unfortunately, the UK press dug up a quote from St. Tony himself on the subject: "We are asked to accept Saddam decided to destroy those weapons. I say that such a claim is palpably absurd." But to be fair, Blair's broadside was fired long ago, practically in cave-man times: March 18, 2003, to be exact. It's certainly irrelevant in our go-go modern world, where history is written with water and each day is a new blank page.

So it was most apt that the only question Bush was heard to ask during his Auschwitz tour actually dealt with Holocaust revisionism: "Do people challenge the accuracy of what you present?" he asked his guide, the New York Times reports. This might seem a rather bizarre question at first glance – but then, Bush has a personal stake in the cultivation of historical amnesia. His own family fortune was built in part by a long and profitable collusion with the Nazis – an ugly story oft told here, and raked up again by Newsweek Poland during the presidential visit.

Bush's grandfather, Prescott Bush, and Prescott's father-in-law, George Herbert Walker, helped finance the rise of the Nazi Party through their intimate entanglements with Nazi industrial, shipping and banking interests. This long (and well-documented) collaboration continued even after America was at war with Nazi Germany. It seems the blood money was just too good to pass up – even if it had to be dug out of the corpses of young American soldiers and innocent civilians throughout Europe and North Africa.

The Walker-Bush cabal's Nazi partners also helped finance – then profited from – the Auschwitz camp. Finally, in 1942, the U.S. government seized the Walker-Bush Nazi assets under the Trading With the Enemy Act. But the well-connected clan managed to bury the news in the back pages: brief mentions of the companies involved, but no names of the Establishment grandees behind them. They also pulled strings to keep their American assets from being seized as well, even though the profits from these enterprises were inextricably mixed with their Nazi loot. Prescott later cashed in these tainted assets for millions, a nest egg that helped launch him into the Senate and his son and grandson into the White House.

So perhaps George Walker Bush felt uneasy treading on the bone-ash that lies beneath the soft, green grass of Auschwitz. Or perhaps not. For quietly buried in the back pages last week was news that the Walker-Bush tradition of war profiteering carries on. A small brief in the Financial Times revealed that Bush-connected "reconstruction" firms Halliburton and Bechtel, now in control of Iraq's oil fields, want to raise massive bank loans using future oil profits as collateral. In other words, these Establishment grandees will pocket billions in free money that will have to be paid back later by the Iraqi people, if and when their oil fields are returned.

Both companies made millions with Saddam during the dictator's murderous heyday: Bechtel helped build Saddam's mustard-gas plants, while Halliburton, under Cheney, pocketed $23 million working with Saddam's UN-sanctioned regime after the first Gulf War. Meanwhile, Halliburton – which still pays Cheney a tidy annual sum – was handed yet another no-bid Iraq contract last week: $400 million in government grease this time.

U.S. Secret Air War Pulverizes Afghanistan and Iraq

By Conn Hallinan, Foreign Policy in Focus
Posted on September 14, 2007, Printed on September 16, 2007

According to the residents of Datta Khel, a town in Pakistan's North Waziristan, three missiles streaked out of Afghanistan's Pakitka Province and slammed into a Madrassa, or Islamic school, this past June. When the smoke cleared, the Asia Times reported, 30 people were dead.

The killers were robots, General Atomics MQ-1 Predators. The AGM-114 Hellfire missiles they used in the attack were directed from a base deep in the southern Nevada desert.

It was not the first time Predators had struck. The previous year a CIA Predator took a shot at al-Qaeda's number two man, Ayman al-Zawahiri, but missed. The missile, however, killed 18 people. According to the Asia Times piece, at least one other suspected al-Qaeda member was assassinated by a Predator in Pakistan's northern frontier area, and in 2002 a Predator killed six "suspected al-Qaeda" members in Yemen.

These assaults are part of what may be the best kept secret of the Iraq-Afghanistan conflicts: an enormous intensification of US bombardments in these and other countries in the region, the increasing number of civilian casualties such a strategy entails, and the growing role of pilot-less killers in the conflict.

According to Associated Press, there has been a five-fold increase in the number of bombs dropped on Iraq during the first six months of 2007 over the same period in 2006. More than 30 tons of those have been cluster weapons, which take an especially heavy toll on civilians.

57. The Banality of Evil Revisited
First off: You're welcome, emperor72. Thank you for the kind words and for giving a damn.

Regarding the BFEE: Another phrase from history, most appropriate today:

The Banality of Evil Revisited

by Bud McClure
Published on Sunday, September 16, 2007 by CommonDreams.org

Hannah Arndt was exactly right in 1963 when she had an epiphany while writing about Adolph Eichmann, realizing in a profound moment of clarity that the great evils in the world are not the work of a few sociopaths, but are committed by ordinary people who accept what they are told by their government and then precede to normalize whatever actions they might take. Sadly, under the right circumstances, we are easily persuaded to do the bidding of the state when it comes to killing.

Six years ago we were rabid for revenge and war making. Many thought that killing bin Laden and his protectors, the Taliban, would settle the score for the attack on our country. However, the President and his men wanted a wider battle, so they used lies and propaganda to sell a war with Iraq. Through the power and resources of the state, war making with Iraq was promoted as honorable, clergy gathered to anoint it a just cause, and most people accepted without question what they were being told. They responded with the shameful flag waving and nationalism that masqueraded as patriotism. Those that urged restraint and voiced opposition to the war were savaged as traitors.

But after five years, support for the war has plummeted, because the war people got was not the one they were sold. People believed, like Bush, it would be a war on the cheap, quick, requiring no sacrifice or human cost, a real feel good kind of war. But is has been anything but cheap. In seeking to atone for being bamboozled by Bush they recently elected enough Democrats to cut off funding and end the war. But they got fooled again. Ironically, the Democrats would rather appear weak and helpless when dealing with Bush so as not to appear weak and helpless on war making. In response, many people feel resigned to continue what appears to be a never-ending war. They have moved on in their lives choosing to ignore the atrocities committed in their names.

Overtime the normalization of behaviors even extends to officers of the state who had a hand in promoting the war. Nowhere was that more on display this week than during the congressional hearings on Iraq. In the dulcimer tones of civility, men and women went about carrying out their state duties in hearings ostensively designed to find out some truth about a monstrous war. Far removed from the carnage they have created in Iraq and the stench of rotting bodies, they calmly chatted about the minutiae of their war. With no display or even any sense of outrage they quietly listened as the General smoothed over any rough edges that might cause them to lose the least little bit of sleep in their comfortable beds at night.

The only bit of reality and dignity that was interjected into any of the hearings were the shouts from the anti-war protestors who were quickly silenced when they were removed from the room. Their truth is that we murdered a lot of people, destroyed a country for nothing, and have created more hatred and animus in the world that will surely come back like a rushing tide and wash over us in the years to come. But that reality does not exist within the vocabulary of the state and our elected representatives were careful not to stray from their script.

Speaking of code:

When Bush speaks in code

The San Francisco Chronicle
Editorial Wednesday, October 19, 2005

WHEN President Bush says of White House counsel Harriet Miers, "I know her heart," those words may not be of much guidance to most Americans trying to assess her fitness to sit on the U.S. Supreme Court.

But Bush has long had a way of speaking in code to what appears to be the main target of this and many other public comments that seem insufficient or even mystifying to others. Bush has mastered the art of effectively signaling to religious conservatives, his bedrock base of supporters, "Trust me. I'm one of you."

By some accounts, the origins of Bush's practice of using code to reach out to Christian fundamentalists were his consultations with family adviser Doug Wead, who had unsuccessfully tried to persuade then-Vice President George H.W. Bush to sprinkle more references to God in his speeches and to schedule high-profile meetings with leading evangelicals in the 1988 presidential campaign. The elder Bush, an Episcopalian, was said to be uneasy about wearing his religion on his sleeve.

George W. Bush had no such reticence about outreach to Christian conservatives. As a candidate for governor of Texas, his speeches were laced with declarations of his relationship with Jesus Christ. Meeting with Christian supporters on the first day of his second term, Bush reportedly said, "I believe that God wants me to be president."

Most of his religious allusions are far more nuanced -- and his frequent biblical references, refrains from hymns and use of familiar "comfort words" to Christians may slip by most people in an audience. For example, an analysis of Bush's 2004 acceptance speech by a University of Chicago professor of the history of religions showed the extent to which his phrases about "hills to climb" and "the valley below" were aligned with biblical stories. As Professor Bruce Lincoln observed, the president who spoke of freedom as "the Almighty's gift to every man and woman" was casting his presidency "not just as a struggle for freedom, but a religious mission with risks of martyrdom."

In his second debate with John Kerry, Bush made what seemed at the moment, to many Americans, to be an out-of-nowhere reference to the 1857 Dred Scott decision. But the reference was anything but obscure to religious conservatives who have long viewed the 7-2 high court ruling in the Scott case -- which upheld the "right" of slave owners over blacks -- as analogous to the 1973 Roe vs. Wade ruling on abortion.

73. It Was Always About The Oil
Greg Palast let us on to their plans to crimp the OPEC pipeline. Now the rest of the punditocracy are catching on...

With all due respect to you and yours, those whose service keeps us free:

It Was Always About The Oil, Stupid!

Raymond J. Learsey
Huffington Post
Posted September 18, 2007 | 07:23 AM (EST)

Finally, someone in a position of influence in Washington, someone who can't be accused of playing partisan politics, has spoken the truth about George W. Bush's invasion of Iraq: It was primarily about the oil.

Alan Greenspan, the former Federal Reserve chairman who attained rock-star status during his tenure in Washington, declares in his new memoir that "the Iraq War is largely about oil." Calling his admission a "politically inconvenient fact," the maestro, as his fans pronounced him during his star turn in our nation's capital, has struck a rather dissonant chord for the Bush administration, which has insisted -- and will vehemently continue to insist -- that oil had nothing to do with our disastrously divisive and tragic invasion of Iraq.

We all know the changing and changeable list of White House-proclaimed motives for our decision to start a war, ranging from Saddam Hussein's alleged store of weapons of mass destruction to America's duty to bring freedom and democracy to Iraq, to the need to deal a decisive blow to Islamic terrorists. We also know that we are now bogged down in a civil war with no apparent end. But a discussion of the rightness of this war is not my intent here. Rather, I'm going to take the opportunity to remind you, dear readers, of the evidence that points to the truth of what Greenspan is saying. The administration has already begun to hit back, with Defense Secretary Robert Gates challenging Greenspan's version during an appearance on ABC's This Week program, and we can expect that the self-serving pronouncements will flow freely. So it's important to recall the facts.

In my 2005 book, Over A Barrel: Breaking The Middle East Oil Cartel, and an updated version, Over A Barrel: Breaking Oil's Grip On Our Future (coming soon to a bookstore near you), I reported the details. To begin with, after toppling Saddam Hussein, the United States passed up a golden opportunity to break Iraq's ties with OPEC, thereby removing its vast reserves of crude oil from the cartel's malicious grip. Instead, the Bush administration hastened to reinstate the connection, claiming America had no business intervening in Iraq's dealings with OPEC.

Of course, we had no such qualms about intervening in every other aspect of Iraqi life, randomly arresting and imprisoning thousands of Iraqi men, dissolving the Iraqi army, ridding the country's institutions of the only people who knew how things worked, and virtually guaranteeing that an anti-U.S. insurgency would ensue under the amateurish ministrations of Paul Bremer, head of the Coalition Provisional Authority.

But when it came to oil, we pretended it was "hands off." In reality, however, we first enlisted oil professional Philip J. Carroll, formerly of Shell Oil, to "advise" the Iraqi Oil Ministry. Then, after Rob McKee, a former ConocoPhillips executive with ties to Halliburton, entered the picture, it was full steam ahead on building a strong national oil company that would be dependent on Big Oil consultants and destined to rejoin the OPEC band of extortionists. As Greg Palast wrote in Harper's magazine, any objections from the Iraqi Governing Council were summarily dismissed, while Vice President Dick Cheney openly advocated an OPEC-friendly policy for Iraq.

74. Big oil's waiting game over Iraq's reserves
Just like in '90, when "my daddy" went in to take out the evil dewar's.

By Ed Crooks and Sheila McNulty

Financial Times
MSNBC.com
Updated: 1:41 a.m. ET Sept 19, 2007

In Iraq, oil companies face a dilemma. They can wait for the central government in Baghdad to agree a new oil law that will give them a legal framework in which they can operate, and for the security situation to become manageable.

Or they can press ahead and sign agreements with the Kurdistan Regional Government, the authority in the autonomous north of Iraq, at the risk of souring relations with Baghdad and shutting themselves out of deals in the rest of the country.

It is a decision that has so far divided the smaller operators from the majors.

In Iraqi Kurdistan, the companies that are active include DNO – which has produced the first oil from a new source in Iraq since the invasion of 2003 – Addax, Dana Gas, Sterling Energy and Western Oil Sands, which is spinning offits activities in the region as part of its takeover by Marathon.

Most recently, they have been joined by Hunt Oil, a privately held US independent, which this month signed a deal to explore in Kurdistan.

The majors, on the other hand, have been conspicuous by their absence, aware that Iraq's central government does not recognise the legality of agreements signed with the KRG.

Hussain al-Shahristani, Iraq's oil minister, said recently about Hunt Oil's deal: "All these contracts have to be approved by the Federal Authority before they are legal . . . This was not presented for approval; it has no standing.''

Only 3 per cent of Iraq's vast reserves of oil and gas are in Kurdistan, and while the minnows of the oil world might be able to make a good business out of 3 per cent of Iraq's reserves, the big fish want access to the remaining 97 per cent.

That is why the majors that are interested in Iraq, including Total and Chevron – which plan to collaborate in the country – and Royal Dutch Shell, are all working with the government in Baghdad.

SNIP...

Last week, the US commercial officer in Iraq said Hunt Oil was "smart" for becoming the first US oil company to sign a high-profile exploration and production deal in Iraq, even though the deal was with the KRG.

Poppy and Rummy worked it all up in 1992, PNAC plotted and graphed it in 1996 and George enabled it with a green light in 2003.

The Iraq War was created and orchestrated by various Right Wing elements in our government and in Corporate America that loves building war machines for billions. Worked like a charm.

61. Bishop Thomas Gumbleton brought that up Monday.
Bishop Gumbleton addressed Pointes for Peace, a Detroit-area group, last Monday. Bishop Gumbleton has visited Iraq nearly a dozen times since the first Gulf War. He said the Pentagon's using shells that use depleted uranium-238. When they hit something hard, the impact generates heat which vaporizes about 2/3 of the round. That coats the area with dust and fills people lungs with radiation. The number of babies born with birth defects and the infant mortality rate have skyrocketed.

The Bishop said we must allow the Iraqis to arrive at their own peace. Because the US is responsible for their present predicament, we must be ready to assist the Iraqis to rebuild their country, once they ask. He emphasized that we must pull out immediately. Our presence is making things worse.

Bishop Gumbleton said:

"Any good we could accomplish is outweighed by the evil we are causing."
