Stossel completely misrepresented Universal health care in Canada, U.K etc.
Did you notice Stossel never confronted Moore with any of the so-called
statistics or situations he ascribed to Canada's health care system? Michael Moore never had a chance to refute anything! The only thing Stossel said that was honest was that most Canadians like their system. That really should tell you all you need to know about whether our system works. But even there he used a rather goofy looking woman to say "well it's a hell of a lot better than the States" and then laugh uproariously. The greedy Canadian doctor with his list of complaints, who no doubt would like to be making more money and the woman who went to the States for treatment (of course there will occasionally be people who fall through the cracks in a big country like this) do NOT represent the majority of our population. Stossel misrepresented the waiting times too. For serious or emergency situations people get prompt treatment. Most doctors are supportive of our system. This whole disgusting commercial for for-profit health care Stossel presented was nothing but a bad joke! The ridiculous things he showed...Brits pulling their own teeth with super glue. LOL! The thing he showed about the British hospital where they turned the sheets over rather than washing them was obviously an aberration and he probably got it from some British documentarty where they were exposing problems. He's presenting it as if it is the common thing in Britain.
In Canada (and U.K., France, Germany etc.) NOBODY goes bankrupt to pay for medical care.
My husband had excellent care from one of the world's top heart specialists, in Toronto. We paid nothing and did not have to wait!
You good people in the U.S.A. deserve Universal health care too!

I caught about three minutes of it then decided I didn't need to bother my beautiful mind with his BS. Besides, he looks like a 1970s porn star with that arsehole mustache. :puke:

4. I went to Canada for the 1st time last month.
And believe me, I've been looking at ways to move there permanently ever since. I've never met a kinder, more gracious people than the Canadians. Plus the country is clean and beautiful.

Sadly, I grew up in a swamp and now live in a desert -- the cold scares the hell out of me. My friends and I take our kids sledding, and I stay within six feet (about two meters :)) from the car and yell, "Nice run, honey! No, that's okay! It's a little snowy for me!"

7. I'm not sure I've got you right.........do you mean
the cold in Canada scares you? In Ontario, where I live (this is true of most of Canada where the population is the greatest), the winters are just about like they are in Chicago. In British Columbia it is much milder and they don't have much snow. Don't be afraid! lol!

11. Chicago is like a Hell on Earth to me.
I spent Christmases there for four years in a row, after my mother married a guy in Chicago. Perfect in the summer. Bu then, once those Chicgoland bastards have gotten you hooked, they say, "It's winter! Time to play with the snowblower"

My first morning, I looked out the window at the thermometer and said, "Hey, I think your themometer is broken. It's says it's UNDER zero?"

They said, "No, negative five's about right for this time of year."

I said, "Negative? You mean zero's not the bottom?"

Later, when the sun rose, I said, "Something's wrong with your lake."

"What do you mean?" they asked.

"They're are people on it. Does it dry up the less humid it gets?"

"No. That's what happen when it freezes."

"Freezes? What do you mean? How does an entire lake freeze? Then where are the people walking?"

"On the top of the lake. It's frozen, like the ice in the freezer."

"OHHHhhhh. I get it now." I didn't, but said I did.

You know how your kitten reacted the first time it saw snow? As if it was saying to itself, "WTF is THAT?" That's how I feel when the temperature gets below forty. Describing my life experience to a Canadian is like an African explaining his paradigm to Drs. Stanley and/or Livingstone.

I still might do it, though -- Canada's the best place I've ever visited. It's like Utah without Mormons :).

19. point
I think his point was that when there is an abundance of insurance, the costs of medical care go up because there is no incentive to keep costs down.

24. Yeah right...just like how i often set my house on fire instead of cleaning it...
because the insurance pays for it all anyway, right? Right?

And other times, if i don't feel like cooking i go punch the neighbor so i can get thrown in jail and get those delicious free meals.

20. He has more influence at ABC, pretending that he's mainstream
Many media consumers already realize that Fox News is full of crap. Not as many know that ABC is "Fox News Lite."

ABC's broadcast of "The Path to 9/11" (designed to influence the 2006 elections) should have awakened lots of viewers to their willingness to participate in the neo-Fascist (Republican) agenda.

23. Stossel is a P.O.S.! I didn't watch the whole show, but....
I tried to watch because I wanted to see Michael Moore, but it was just disgusting! A disgusting display of dishonesty. WTF was with Whole Foods and comparing using insurance to buying food? It was so strange, I thought. He was blaming the victim from what I saw. Like the black guy who didn't list a problem with his thigh because he was worried that he wouldn't be able to get insurance. The point there is that he should be accepted and treated as is, without having to worry about a damn pre-existing condition which would probably cause him to be rejected. What a smarmy, icky man that Stossel is! :puke:

25. Stossel liked the doctor who hands his patients a price list and
doesn't accept insurance. Let's see. $50.00 for a hangnail. I can afford that. Too bad I have heart disease...or diabetes...or cancer. Can't afford treatment for those. Guess I'll just have to die.

Stossel's health care hour was an hour wasted.

26. I checked MM's website to see if there was a response to Stossel's
piece of shit and this is what I found:

Open Letter to ABC's John Stossel ... from Julie Pierce, American SiCKO

My name is Julie Pierce. My husband was Tracy Pierce. I am featured in Michael Moore's documentary 'SiCKO.' In the movie, I share my deceased husband's story — his unsuccessful battle with our insurance company to receive what could have been life-saving treatments for kidney cancer.

I just read your Wall Street Journal article written on Sept. 13, 2007, titled "Sick Sob Stories." You begin by talking about Tracy's role in 'SiCKO,' and claim the bone marrow transplant denied by our insurer would not have saved him. You also accuse me of "sneering" over our situation.

In your 'reporting' of this story, you did not contact me, and you did not contact my husband's doctors. I cannot believe that a publication like the Wall Street Journal would print such an accusation without talking to anyone involved — especially in such a personal matter, which resulted in the death of my 37-year-old husband and the father of my child.

snip

Instead of calling me up and doing real reporting, all you can do is throw around studies from 1999 about the supposed inefficiency of bone marrow transplants for breast cancer patients — even though Tracy didn't have breasts. He had kidney cancer! I understand that you want to try to prove that private insurance in this country really isn't that bad. And I can see that you won't let the facts get in the way.

Excellent letter, points out, in excellent detail, the bullshit Stossel is trying to pull, imo.
