"Child, are you a Christian? I said, 'Ma'am, I am tonight.' " |
|
I have heard WAY too much in recent years about "Christians" and "Christianity" and the Ten Commandments and putting Prayer Back In School (where it NEVER was to start with) and Righteousness and how the United States is A Christian Nation and Bobble Quotes from one lameass Republican (Democrats, too, of late) after another but ALL (fucking ALL of them!) from the Old Testament and THIS-ism, THAT'M-isum, until I am blue in the face, not to mention the ass and BOTH legs!
Since I was fucking SIXTEEN--a horribly long time ago!--politicians and preachers have been throwing The Wholly Booble up in my face and telling me how this nation needs to return to ITS CHRI$TIAN PRINCIPLE$ or face the awful Judge-a-ment of JAYZUS on the Last Day.
But they NEVER tell me what JESUS SAID. It's always that Doom-And-Gloom Shit from the Auld Testament and NEVER a word from Jesus Christ The Teacher. As in:
Feed the Hungry Clothe the Naked Visit the Sick Care for the Dying Bury the Dead
Why you reckon that is????

5. The conservative brain seems wired for the Old Testament |
|
but I'm sure it's partly an acquired state of mind as well. Same right-wingers that would kill Jesus then as today. Same left/right paradigm that never changes.

My response "I hold myself to higher standards than that" I was never bothered by that particular person about religion again.

great post-
You know why i reckon it is?
Because Jesus speaks about what we, as individuals are to do- and that requires looking to control ourselves, not others.
And the other shit- (sorry, that's the best word for it) focuses on being the "Policemen" of other people- being "Judge"- "enforcer" etc.- it doesn't require much from a person, other than the reward of saying "BAD- BAD- BAD"- which we humans seem to find strangely satisfying.???
peace~

9. They are controlled by the money loving preachers who will say anything to keep them |
|
under their power. They use fear just like Bush does. They worship a country and its flag. It's called idolatry. Yea ...that will be the day when they pray for their enemies as Jesus said to do.

11. Fear mongering for control of your soul. |
|
Jesus MAY HAVE been a mortal man with great vision and an extremely kind heart. It is unfortunate that the 'church' hierarchy has taken the fire and brimstone path versus his humane teachings; it might have created a different world.

13. Too many Christians are CHINOs |
|
CHristian In Name Only. They loudly proclaim their faith in Jesus, but their morality is right out of the OT. I think of them as Modern Pharisees.

18. Of course I am a christian, of course I am not a fundamentalist, believing as I do |
|
in following the words of a teacher, trying to emulate how to be, rather than worshipping the person and doing whatever the hell nasty stuff I wanted.
Fundamentalist christians are not true Christians.
