1. You rock! He isn't funny at all, and not very well informed either |
|
but the real reason you are so special is because just about everybody nowadays says "I could care less" which is the exact opposite of what they're trying to convey.

8. Oh, thank you, thank you. As someone who loves the English language, that is |

one of the things that sets my teeth to "grind." So happy that someone else noticed it!

2. As a man, I couldn't care less about your opinion of Bill Maher last night. |
|
However, I'm just about to watch it, so my attitude might change.
This, however, is unlikely.

but he sure as shit wasn't pro-Bush during that show. He's either changed his mind/grown up, or his masters have set him on the path.

12. He comes up with some hand clapping good ones - he is irreverent. |
|
and I like that in a comedian.
In other ways he seems so libertarian - riding that wall.
I would be disappointed to learn that someone else wrote the best quips I've hear from him.
He is clever and funny most of the time. Sometimes the jokes are too cruel. I don't know where the line is between cruel and irreverent. I know it when I hear it.
I'm riding the wall, as well. I guess.

18. Segment #5 (in Political Videos and on You Tube) was funny |
|
He interviewed the author of "Dead Certain," who was both entertaining and enlightening.
None of the rest of it would persuade me to get HBO.

21. as an intelligent, progressive American, |
|
I like him. I sure as hell don't agree with everything he says or believes; he thinks the Vietnam war was a good idea, likes Coulter (this is the closest to unforgivable he gets for me) and from time to time says things that flat out offend me. But he also is a welcome and important voice cutting through the bullshit too, in an age where that's extraordinarily important. I saw him live a few days after the 2004 election and he was on fire; I had a friend with me who was not very familiar with Maher (and who is further left and more generally "politically correct" than me) and he was blown away by how funny and right on the money Maher was that night.( as was I). And yeah, there were moments when I thought he was anywhere from not funny to offensive, but that night, like any other time I've seen him (mostly on you tube these days) the good he did in mocking the idiots running our country along with the idiots that support those idiots, far outweighed moments of insensitivity etc. You can't always pick your allies, and mass appeal comedians who point out how full of shit the right wing is are an asset to our side.

22. I think he can be clever and funny at times but, to me, there's always been an underlying |
|
layer of nastiness or bitterness which makes him seem mean-spirited. I mean, I love well-placed sarcasm and even dark humor, but there's a certain after-taste that doesn't set right with me.
