I have XM radio in my vehicle, and on Saturday's the liberal talk station (167), doesn't have much on until "Ring of Fire." Sometimes I change it to 166. That talk station represents the far right wing of the radical far right far radical far right wing (doing an anti-bill-o). And there is this guy, Cigar Dave, who calls his listeners lieutenants, and himself the general, each week passionately lectures his audience about the evil Congressional plan for a federal SCHIP program. He doesn't want his expensive cigars taxed to provide poor kids with health insurance.
Combine this with Bush's reason for not wanting SCHIP, protection of the insurance companies, and this is the image that comes to my mind.
The Republicans don't want a federal SCHIP program, because they are protecting those benevolent cigar smoking insurance executives from those evil sickly orphans.

1. The Republicans and conservative I have talked to |

are using the expanded coverage to cover people over 18, and the plan to cover children that are part of families that are making 400% of the federal poverty level (I only make about 150% of the federal poverty level and I pay for my own insurance) as reasons to fight SCHIP.

The show sounded so pompous, I hoped it was parody. Alas, it was not. The militaristic angle is particularly galling, as real soldiers die whilst they sit around enjoying "the good life" and calling themselves ranks and titles.
