PHOTOS: White House Rally - Sept. 15, 2007
Edited on Sat Sep-15-07 03:37 PM by Hissyspit
As of 4 p.m., there are not many photos up on the net of the rally and march (and the die-in has yet to occur, but here are some I found. I'm not in D.C. to take any. I couldn't make it because it was a rather rough week, with stuff and deadlines coming together all at once. I'm disappointed that I'm not there for the die-in, as I had planned to join in (and document it), but ultimately decided I couldn't risk arrest for reasons I'm not going to post on the internet Keep an eye out, as I'm sure the photos will start to show up from news sources and DUers. Add any that you cna find to this thread (Hat tip, L. Coyote).

3. I added another to OP.
Unfortunately, none of the street cams around the mall are AIMED at the mall, they are aimed north and south, so we won't be able to see the die-in on the street cams, best I can tell.

Thanks a bunch Hissy. And don't worry -- getting arrested on purpose is something a citizen should do with only the most thoughtful deliberation, imo. Sometimes necessary -- "When in the course of human events" -- but always dangerous on many levels.

Anti War Protest Targets Costa - Day 1

http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2007/09/11/18447029.php

The photos and article (below) are about day 1 in what is expected to be a month of protests against Congressman Jim Costa. Costa is a Democrat from the Central Valley who has voted for continuing the war & occupation of Iraq. Local peace groups have united to change his position and get him to vote against funding the war.

18. Okay -- how about a protest where the participants wear a name badge of
the person killed, date, etc. These people, and those supporting the protest, are entirely dead silent. No hollering, no getting into it with those Eagle freaks, just somber and respectful.

If all those wearing the name tags were grouped together, it would be quite a statement -- a sea of people.

IMHO, natch.

As I was working my way down the thread, my blood ran cold. All I could think of was, "Is this Viet Nam" "Are these Viet Nam protesters?" Because it looked so similar.

And if it WASN'T Viet Nam, how could we possibly be there AGAIN?

Riveting photos. Thankx.

40. The first photo of the memorial to Lance Cpl. Alexander S. Arredondo -
the tribute was created by his father who is an American citizen originally from Costa Rica. Later in the day, at the Capital I learned the father was jumped by a group of pro-war thugs who kicked and beat him.

I was there from 10 in the morning until six in the evening and shot over four hours of video. Right now I'm burned out after catching a seven AM flight back to Burband through Phoenix, but i am so happy I made the trip for the demonstration. Making up for some lost time when I didn't get off my ass and participate years ago.

BTW, I heard a participant at Lafeyette park shout out for DU.

41. MY photos . .. signs and other things . . .
My signs . . .

I don't think he ever stopped . . . I got over 70 requests for pictures of this one.

I had a talk with some people there who had this same idea, but they figured the list of greivances would read like War and Peace.

And others . .

MY personal favorite.

THIS one made CNN.

GW College Repukes vs Anti-war demonstrators.

Cindy! I moved fast up through the crowd and there she was. This was right before we hit the stench of the GotEs.

Storming the Captiol building.

FogerRox (THANK you for the water, BTW) and Skinner. Many thanks for the march and sorry I broke off there. Just so many people and I kind of got lost in the shuffle . . .

One of the few civil discussions between GotEs and anti-war protestors. The ones just behind them were not so civil.

I'll post more as I get them loaded. Great time and thanks to the DUers I marched with (especially BLITZ!)

If I can figure out how.

My daughter got some great shots of the storm troopers coming down the steps at us.

All I can say is "Intense" and that keeping some semblance of order was like herding Cats and A.N.S.W.E.R did a great job of it.
