U.S. Capitol Police arrested least seven people who jumped over a barricade near the base of the Capitol. Nearly 100 officers were standing guard, and the protesters were arrested without a struggle.

"What do we want? Troops out. When do we want it? Now," the demonstrators chanted.

The protesters gathered earlier Saturday near the White House in Lafayette Park with signs saying "End the war now" and calling for President Bush's impeachment. The rally was organized by the ANSWER Coalition and other groups.

Army veteran Justin Cliburn, 25, of Lawton, Okla., was among a contingent of Iraq veterans in attendance.

"We're occupying a people who do not want us there," Cliburn said of Iraq. "We're here to show that it isn't just a bunch of old hippies from the 60s who are against this war."

1. *A bunch of old hippies*
I resemble that remark. :hippie:

Geez that took a lot of guts to jump the fence, but one can understand veterans being passionate about wanting to end the war.

2. This going to be the story in th corporate news.
All coverage of 7 hippies acting like hippies.

No coverage of 300,000-500,000 peaceful people advocating ending an illegal war.

9. Ahem!
How do you know they are hippies? Some hippies have the stomach for civil dis-obedience. Others do not. It's not really about hippie or non-hippie.

Is there no point (for you personally) when enough is fucking enough, and it's time to take it up a notch?

I'm a proud, first generation, unrepentant hippie, and I personally approve of and take part in civil dis-obedience. Also....like many of my fellow hippies, I have always showered regularly, even during the "Summer Of Love". Amazing, ain't it?

B-)

10. That's what I'm getting at, I guess.
I don't know. Nobody who wasn't there to witness it does.

But that's how to corporate media will spin it in an attempt to marginalize/discredit the whole protest.

7. Was flipping through
the channels and saw some TV coverage of the protest in D.C, CNN focused on the Anti-War people in a pretty positive and un-biased way showing video of Cindy Sheehan, Nader and some of the Iraq Vets Against War. FAUX Noise were focusing on the Pro-War crowd Protesting against the Anti-War people showing some Retired Army Colonel whining about the Move On Ad. It struck me at how stupid and illogical Pro-War people seem advocating for more death and destruction. Basically for an ego (Bu$h's Legacy) and or war profiteering (oil), all the while protesting against people advocating for Peace.
