Alan Greenspan claims Iraq war was really for oil
Edited on Sat Sep-15-07 07:18 PM by cal04
AMERICA’s elder statesman of finance, Alan Greenspan, has shaken the White House by declaring that the prime motive for the war in Iraq was oil.

In his long-awaited memoir, to be published tomorrow, Greenspan, a Republican whose 18-year tenure as head of the US Federal Reserve was widely admired, will also deliver a stinging critique of President George W Bush’s economic policies.

However, it is his view on the motive for the 2003 Iraq invasion that is likely to provoke the most controversy. “I am saddened that it is politically inconvenient to acknowledge what everyone knows: the Iraq war is largely about oil,” he says.

Greenspan, 81, is understood to believe that Saddam Hussein posed a threat to the security of oil supplies in the Middle East.

7. Poor Andrea Mitchell
there go the invitations to the insider parties. She must be pissed.
Greenspan is late but his comments should provide great entertainment starting tomorrow.

Not a rat in sight these days.

8. What's amazing is that royal lapdogs of the Washington press corpse
STILL let the Bush dictatorship get away with claiming some kind of nonsensical humanitarian motive for the invasion/occupation of Iraq. It was always about the oil, and it still is. We can't leave because if we leave someone else gets the oil. Just once, I'd like to hear a TV newsmodel blurt out the truth.

9. Remember when John McCain called him a genius?
Edited on Sun Sep-16-07 11:52 AM by eleny
It was back when McCain was running for president in 2000. When asked about Greenspan, McCain said he was a genius and that he would beg AG to stay on as Fed chairman if necessary.

I'd like to find that sound bite now.

10. Okay, Meet Captain Obvious
My 7 year old knows the same thing. My chihuahua probably knows since she is with me when I buy gas and mutter under my breath. It seems that the only people who don't know this yet are the loyalists to the GOP, the people attending Jesus Camp and some troll guy who lives under a bridge someplace...

12. The bad part is that
so many conservatives think oil is a good reason to go to war, that fighting for oil is morally defensible. I'm betting Mr. Greenspan is among them.
