Joe Lieberman registers as a Democrat
from My Left Nutmeg

Lieberman Lies to Secretary of State and Citizens of Connecticut Again

Last week Joe went into register in his new town of Stamford after moving from New Haven. Of all the computer prompts he could have selected, The Connecticut for Lieberman Party, the Republican Party, etc., he picked the Democratic Party thus completing his lie to the Secretary of State and the citizens of Connecticut. He was alllowed to run as a defeated Democratic candidate after losing to Ned Lamont. He campaigned with other Democrats after losing the nomination including Nancy DiNardo, Jim Aaman, Bill Finch and Diane Ferrell. Still we have had no changes at all in Connecticut law so a person can still claim that he will join a new party, get to run, and then not ever join the new party. When she was live blogging on MLN this summer, the Secretary of State wrote that the time to protest what Lieberman was doing was during the election and not after. She wrote that no one protested about what Joe was doing. That is just not correct. As elected chair of CFL, I think Joe should be called not independently elected Democrat, or Ind-Conn. I think he should be called Democrat who lied to the Secretary of State.

34. That's my guess, too. Especially since he's got to know that there
isn't any chance of re-election after pulling this one.

There is definitely a good amount of buyer's remorse here. I get to say "I told you so" a lot.

6. Not being from Connecticut.....
I'm not understanding the 'no one protested about what Lieberman was doing' part of the statement.

Is what he did legal in that state? If so, why would anyone 'protest'?

Personally, I believe that any person who is on a primary ballot and defeated should never be allowed to run in a general election under a 'made up' party. The person was defeated. That person should accept that result gracefully and then BACK OFF.

But apparently, Connecticut state law has no such provision. That is what needs to be challenged and changed by the voters of that state.

Really, Rarbara Boxer & Cheney got in the same bed over this one. It was the battle where we the people lost control over the fate of the war. If I were a Joementum voter, I'd do penance.Or, at least, lots of this:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

35. Well, he wouldn't have to be in the minority party if he'd actually
act like a Democrat.

But he wants to play Republican synchophant and still consider himself a Democrat.

I don't think he's going to attempt to extend this political career beyond this, his last, term. But perhaps he thinks there's some way to straddle the fence (his usual position) should the Dems win enough seats in the Senate in 08 to ensure they don't need him at all. All this while of course supporting a Republican for president, and continuing to suck up to Bush until then.

19. Why Would The Republicans Getting Trumped In 08 Have Anything To Do With How He Registers?
Your comment just simply didn't make any sense to me, that's all.

I know we all claim he's a republican but he ain't. He's an indy now but I see no reason to be surprised that he registered Dem. Why would you think regardless of 08 that he would've registered republican?

36. The only possible angle I can see is he thinks there might
be an opportunity to re-ingratiate himself with his former party once we've got enough Dem. senators to truly tell him to go away. He'll attempt to re-assert his "D" creds and hope to be given interesting positions until his retirement in 12.

Just a guess.

14. What's next? Robert D. Novak is going to become a journalist?
Donald Rumsfeld to become a priest, denouncing the killing of millions of innocent people.
Cheney to become a human.
Bush to get a brain.

Sounds more and more to me like the Wizard of OZ.
