Republican frontrunners refuse to invoke 'God'
http://feeds.bignewsnetwork.com/?sid=282588

Two Republican frontrunners for the upcoming presidential polls, Rudy Giuliani and Fred Thomson, don't go to church.

In the U.S, this admission could easily put them in danger of losing the votes of church-going Americans.

In a recent Gallup poll, 55 per cent of Americans said they went to church at least once a month. Christian conservatives are likely to amount to nearly 30 per cent of 120 million who vote.

According to The Telegraph, neither the thrice-married Rudy Giuliani nor the twice-married Fred Thompson, the two front-runners for the party's nomination, go to church regularly.

1. They won't lose the churchers. Either the churchers saw what an
abject fucking failure the ever-devout Chimpy was and realized that God DOES make mistakes sometimes, or they are just not as influential in the GOP as we've been led to believe, which is why Fred, Rudy and MittWitt the Mormon have been allowed to dominate the top tier. Fundies just won't be as big a factor this time around, I believe.

2. It's only ungodly if a Democrat doesn't go to church.
If a Republican doesn't, well, that's his choice.

Sheesh. I thought everybody knew that.

3. It worked for Reagan
in their mind when you are presidential material, you don't need to go to church - God just speaks directly to you

4. That assumes church-goer-vote people aren't opportunistic hyopcrites. Which they are.

6. My thoughts
Rudy and Fred and Mittens may be the front runners on the repub side, but that's just based on percentages of a certain number of republicans called - republicans of all stripes. I think there's a real depression among religious conservatives as they don't have anyone they can point to that reflects their beliefs and/or is kowtowing and kissing their collective ass enough. (I don't know why Brownback isn't doing better with them) The fact that they're hoping someone like Fred Thompson will suddenly be their star candidate/next coming of Reagan speaks to that desperation and depression they're feeling, and I think they're going to end up pretty disappointed with him as well once he gets steamrolled in the upcoming debates.

The unspoken problem with Rudy and Mittens (not so unspoken about Mittens) is their religions. Southern conservatives can still be very intolerant of Catholics like Rudy, and for years, their preachers, from the bigwigs like Falwell to the ministers of small congregations in the boonies, have been calling Mormonism a cult. If Mitt gets the nomination, even if these ministers do a 180 and start pushing for him so that the White House can remain in republican hands, they will do so with their index finger and thumb pinching their nose shut, and everything that they've said about Mormonism will still be remembered by their parishioners who won't be enthused about going to the voting booth to vote in a member of a cult - no matter how hard the ministers push.

8. This election is going to finally tell us
who the real racist and sexist are in this country.....I have written it several times now but I am under the strong opinion the repubs would enjoy nothing better then to run against obama....but if the right wing of the party and that would include the religious right considers voting for rudy then they are the same folks Jesus called hypocrites....One question one needs to ask these folks: If you call democrats that believe in a womans right to choose a baby killer, murderer, then how can you justify voting for a man that believes in a womans right to choose?
I do have a feeling the right wing religious folks will stay home that tuesday in november.....If these folks for all these years have played the religion card against the dems then turn about is fair play....
