44. Kerry & McCain
You are right, Kerry was far superior to McCain. I think he is superior to any of the Democratic candidates and would make a better President. And McCain is far superior to Bush.

55. Welcome to DU - I agree 100%
Kerry is astonishingly good in these debates. It is fun watching McCain lose his cool. McCain has learned to smile when angry, but he can't do it here. In 2005, when McCain was thought to be the most formidable candidate, people pointed out that McCain credited Kerry with calming him down in the POW/MIA hearings and kept him from losing it. Kerry knows where the buttons are - he also seems incredibly good at listening to what his opponent is saying - because he does not need to think out his own response.

I have yet to see Hillary in one of these settings. She is rarely on any of the talk shows and had weak opponents to debate in her races. The Democratic debates are not as sustained a debate - rather just multiple short answer questions.

and lie about him behind his back and use the corporate media to twist his words or positions.

No one has ever had a face to face debate with Kerry and won.

30. I'm pretty sure they are/were.
They worked on a number of things together in the past, and have had a lot in common.
JK's position on Iraq is the polar opposite of McCain's. I know Sen Kerry called McCain's position 'disingenuous' on Ed Schultz the other day, so it would appear the relationship is at least strained.
Of course, that's just my personal observation. I have no real knowledge of the status of their friendship.

56. Were might be the operative word
McCain has done some pretty unforgivable things. But, Kerry is not attacking McCain - or using any personal attacks on him - McCain actually did against Kerry - but it didn't stick - saying Kerry voted for the 4 1/2 years of failure, ignoring that Kerry has been very visible as a critic since the beginning.

I do think though that Kerry knew where the buttons were and made sure to push them.

57. Strange isn't it?
Especially as Kerry is a war hero for risking his life to save someone and for having masterminded an aggressive, innovative alternative to simply being a sitting duck in the inevitable ambushes in the narrow canals. That shows heroism, galantry and brilliance.

McCain was a hero for having the moral strength to endure being a POW for years and helping others through it.

Kerry's is the more classic version of being a hero - if he were Republican - they would have loved running him for President.

He's nothing more than an echo of Bush rhetoric, stubbornly sticking to conservative unreality. What is pathetic is that he's probably not lying--this is actually how he sees the situation--more's the pity!

Notice how physically small he looked next to Kerry? I'll bet his campaign people had a fit when they noticed that!
