<snip>
Sixty-one people were killed and 40 were missing after a budget airliner crashed on the Thai resort of Phuket in driving rain and burst into flames, the island's governor said.

Around half of the passengers were foreigners, most of them European, an Airports of Thailand official in Bangkok said, and 29 people were known to have survived, including eight Britons, seven Thais and two Australians.

BBC says 87 dead.

1. That is so heartbreaking
We lost 2 family members in a plane crash and know the grief that the families are and will be going through.

My brother is traveling in Thailand. I was relieved to receive an email that he is in another area of the country right now.

I pray for peace for all involved.

2. Glad to hear your brother is OK
I hate plane crashes but at least some people survived here.

3. Thanks, I'm relieved as well
After what we went through with the Valujet crash in the Everglades 11 years ago, everytime I hear about a commercial crash it brings back the horror.

4. I remeber that crash as if it were yesterday
We had lots of family flying down for a reunion and many had Florida connections. Thankfully none were on that Valujet.
