One of my students (age 10) on our president:

He walked in class the other day and said "I know what's wrong with George Bush." I asked "What?" He said "He's a crip and he should be a blood." I asked "What makes you say that?" He said "My uncle told me Bush is a gang banger but he's in the wrong gang. So I figure he must be a crip."

From a kid whose dad is in prison and who has basically lived on the streets for much of his life, this is a fairly intuitive comment. And considering this kid is in special ed, this is a very intelligent remark. :)

1. I gather that many kids find themselves in "special ed" precisely...

...because they're intelligent and intuitive.

Can't have that, now, can we?

B-)

2. Normally this kid doesn't act very smart

but this was pretty wise of him.

on edit: He is in special ed because he didn't go to school regularly until about a year ago. So he is more educationally deprived than disabled.
