AOL/Microsoft-Hotmail Preventing Delivery of Truthout Communications
ATE: 09.15.07:2:pm:pdt:

A few things are becoming apparent at this point:

1.) This problem is far larger than we understood. We are learning a lot from the comments sent to us by readers. So - please - keep them coming.

2.) It is becoming increasingly apparent that the Free Email Services - all of them - are a morass. You are a commodity to these administrators and as far as they are concerned your rights are your problem, not theirs. If you are serious about receiving TO, or any other content they are not supportive of, you are pretty much on your own. Bluntly stated: AOL, Microsoft, Yahoo and all of the domains they control restrict what you receive in your inbox. And it is at their discretion, not yours.

3.) We intend to fight this.

2. I've had no problems with my Yahoo email.
I subscribe to a plethora of liberal newsletters and sites and, to my knowledge, none have been restricted.

4. Same here with yahoo, no problem & get lots of the liberal news
information. However, I have subscribed to the pay Yahoo mail now & that is because I have always had good service. I use Google as well, same, no problems. Can't speak for hotmail.

8. Well gee, if it's truth you seek...
... there's always Fux Nudes, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, talk radio or the WSJ editorial page. You know, all those reliable sources who reported that only a couple of thousand people marched on the White House on Saturday.

Do you actually begrudge an honest effort to report real news, from real reporters, and distribute it FOR FREE over the internet because of one report that turned out to be inaccurate?

Caution: your myopia is showing...

9. I don't begrudge an honest effort at all. To look for honesty from truthout is a fool's errand...
.... Or has truthout been 100% vindicated of making shit up?

24 business hours my left nut. Get the fuck outta here, truthout's just another piece of shit dishonesty outfit. The fact that they're on "our side" doesn't make it remotely close to excusable.

I'm very much against falsehoods from anyone. Also, when someone does accuse another, I like to see the accusation backed up with a citation.

EDIT: And keep it in mind next time you're thinking about being sanctimonious about someone/group lying to somebody. You deserve what you put up with.

11. Also...
Edited on Sun Sep-16-07 09:24 PM by warren pease
why the hell is anyone still using these corporate email providers when there are literally thousands of independent ISPs, many overtly progressive, dying for your business? Imagine the idea that AOL, founded by a fundie nut case, would dare to censor its content. It's inconceivable.

My warren alias has a yahoo account, but I don't have any real information delivered there. As an example of their priorities, here a list of their current featured stories:

"Emmys red carpet shines; celebs light up the red carpet at the Emmy awards."

Then there are a few sidebars: Best dressed, Worst dressed, Emmy couples, Bling bling (what the fuck does that mean?)

Of course, OJ's arrest is there, as is the critical fact that Bret Favre has passed, so to speak, John Elway for most wins as an NFL quarterback.

And that's a typical evening in pop culture pap, swill and drivel that Yahoo considers vital information.

10. My domain was blocked by Yahoo mail and others.
Yahoo would not let any mail from my domain into their system. Nothing you can do about it either!
I do not know for how long my e-mails just disappeared into nothingness!

I was in a college library and discovered that the Utah State Education Network was blocking my entire web site. I found this
rather alarming considering I am an online educator!

Also, a national wi-fi provider, like to coffee shops, blocked my domain.

Someone somewhere has to make the decisions on who gets put on the black list. Who could that be?

29. Well maybe they should get their domain un-blacklisted?
My testing shows one of their mail servers or the hosting company has DNSBL on one of their mail servers.

31. For the technically challenged...
What DNSBL? Also, how the hell did you do whatever you did to find that out? Can technical idiots like me do the same if I just had a series of steps to follow? Or do you have to know TCP/IT protocols and C++ (or however many plusses there are now)?

Thanks,

32. What is a DNSBL?
Edited on Mon Sep-17-07 09:10 PM by L. Coyote
Mail servers block mail from sites listed on a DNSBL. What is a DNSBL?

A DNSBL is a DNS-based spam blocking list. A DNS is a domain name service. Domain names are easy to remember, like thruthout.org. That domain is located on a server numbered 69.20.79.222, the IP number or address. Domain name servers tell clients (browsers) which IP to request. That IP is listed on Name Servers ns.rackspace.com and ns2.rackspace.com. So rackspace is the Hosting company.

Blacklists are IP address-based and contain IP addresses of email servers that you might receive spam from. Dozens of lists are compiled with different criteria, some trustworthy and others not. Here is a site with a checker:

http://www.apews.org/?

Testresults
Oooops 69.20.79.222 is currently listed in APEWS :-(
Entry matching your Query: E-172131
69.20.0.0/17CASE: C-82
IP space of "hot" UCE/UBE operations per NANAS, NANAE, UCEtraps & published statisticsSpecial Reason:
per NANAS, NANAE, UCEtraps, MTA headers continued abuse / abuse volume = escalation ultimately, all your ASN(s) will be listedHistory
Entry created 2007-05-17

SO, Rackspace.com, Ltd., San Antonio, TX, (NetRange: 69.20.0.0 - 69.20.127.255) is block listed.

Truthout needs to move to a better host and the problem should go away.

36. No and yes
Type mx lookup in google. the first hit is a good site to test mail servers. Once you resolve the exchange IP address just run their blacklist monitos. You will see it is listed under one DNSBL <Domain Naming Service Black List>
