It looks like northern Iraq is going down the shitter

Kurdish fighters in training. Iran claims that the US is secretly supporting Kurdish attacks upon its infrastructure and troops

Kurdish guerillas launch clandestine war in Iran
By Damien McElroy in the Qandil mountains
Last Updated: 1:54am BST 10/09/2007

Kurdish guerrillas have launched a clandestine war in north-western Iran, ambushing troops as they seek Western backing to secure an ethnic homeland.

~snip~

Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, accused the US of supporting terrorism inside the Islamic Republic.

"America wants to carry out actions such as blowing up the country's oil pipelines by supporting bandits and small groups of Kurdish rebels," he told the Iranian press.

In the Qandil mountains, signs of a conflict gathering momentum are easily found.

US army helicopters are reportedly used to shuttle officers to regular meetings with Kurdish fighters.

There is a landing pad complete with spotlights near Mr Karayilan's headquarters, while four-wheel-drive vehicles belonging to a US private security contractor, are easily seen.

1. Ya know, I COULD see this going on for decades, which is why we
can't allow that to happen. What the hell are we even doing in the middle of this mess? Yes, I know, we created it.

2. Kurds need to understand the any republican administration is
nothing more than a fair-weather friend. The minute it becomes too expensive or a liability of any kind to support them, they'll find out exactly what kind of friendship they had. Ask the Shi'ites about Poopy bush**.

4. Senator McCain just said yesterday on Meet the Press that everything is fine in Northern Iraq.
I guess he thinks he can lie like Bush.
Hell, we all know he lies like a rug.

9. Well, we can all join McCain at a No Surrender Rally and see how many people will show up.
To call him a lying sonovabitch.

I know when I was watching him on "Meet the Press" yesterday that's what I was doing.

7. PJAK
...
Last month, as the corporate media mulched over renewed Pentagon claims Iran is providing deadly IEDs to Iraqi “insurgents,” German television reported the Maoist Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or Partiya Karkaren Kurdistan (PKK), has “killed over 200 Iranians,” a handful by way of IED, according to a PKK terrorist quoted by German ARD television (original in German). “Three months ago, by using radio-controlled mines we killed 13 to 14 Iranian soldiers,” Sertan, a “PJAK” terrorist, told the Germans. PJAK “is a cover name, because the organization is dedicated to Abdullah Öcalan, to the boss of the . It is forbidden in Europe and America as a terrorist organization,” in fact, the U.S. State Department lists PKK as a terrorist organization.

As Iranian Press TV reported yesterday, the leader of the “Pejak terrorist group says he has good relations with the US and German governments and they know everything about the group.” Abdel Rahman Haj-Ahmedi, who lives in Cologne, told German ARD television: “Big powers help our military stations and American army generals completely overlook our activities.” Moreover, according to Haj-Ahmedi, “some US generals even visit Pejak’s military camps and have good ties with Pejak…. Haj-Ahmadi in a similar interview with the Kurdish newspaper Media had acknowledged that some US senators and generals had met with Pejak leaders in Iraq’s Qandil.” In short, PJAK enjoys full neocon support, as should be expected, never mind PKK’s supposed lunatic Maoist persuasion.

8. Kurds and Independence
McCain would do well to do some Google research. The Kurds have been moving towards independence since the 1940's. When they refuse to fly the Iraqi flag, and still hold independence conferences, this should tell you how they feel.

12. Well, we all know that Southern Iraq has officially gone down the shitter--
we are just losing our grip on the country (if we ever had one). Can't even get Baghdad under control with most of our forces concentrated there. The futility of this occupation could not be more evident.
