3. Amen
And the funny thing about the awards you listed: those are just the ones most Americans know about. Gore is getting awards all over the globe for his work on the climate crisis. Not to mention that he's managed to write one of the greatest books of our time about the situation we find ourselves in concerning our political climate: The Assault on Reason.

He's a fighter and he's a winner.

him and any Democratic lawmaker who sides with the citizenry and their right to an OPEN GOVERNMENT.

It took him some time to get there, but his latest book Assault on Reason proves he is solidly with us now.

Please run Mr. Gore.

Right? And not a statesman, global environmental advocate, and businessman doing all of these things TO WAKE US UP to what the political system is really all about. As a supporter of the man I have to say that I too am getting tired of these threads intimating that the ONLY thing he is worthy enough to garner support for is to enter this toxic system and be constrained by its military industrial complex, and that he did it just to get the "prizes." Do you really think him that shallow?

He wrote An Inconvenient Truth as a WARNING about the cataclysm we face from climate change that scientsts agree will be equal to or surpass the affects of nuclear war if WE don't get off OUR asses and do something about it NOW.

He started Current TV because he believes as a Statesman and an American citizen that Democracy has been tarnished by us returning to media feudalism and once again is warning US to get up and do something about it.

And he wrote the Assault on Reason to once again WARN US of the disaster WE created and now face by not being proactive in the dialogue of Democracy.

That is what STATESMEN and good Americans do. However, all we see here are BS threads continually tying everything good this man does to some selfish motivation even though he has shown he sincerely believes in what he is doing.

How anyone could not see that the lasting effects of his work now will far surpass anything some BS "presidency" in the soundbite world will be able to accomplish now in the muck it is mired in is beyond me.

But far be it for me here, the "pariah" to understand the mechanism of the political minds that only see one vision for a person and who don't believe in the power of those who use their hearts, minds, and souls for noble purposes.

If he ever enters this system again it won't be because he "set it up" to happen. To think he would ever do that is to me a huge insult to the man's dedication and character.

imply we "think he is a calculating selfish politician". I don't understand how you can gather that from supporters of Gore but I find it very insulting. Folks here DO NOT insult you for your beliefs that he should remain out of the race. Of course he is doing good in the many areas he is focusing but I believe he can do more for our country and the world in the position he won in 2000.

79. Well then explain why you think that
"I believe he can do more for our country and the world in the position he won in 2000."

Mr. Gore obviously did not feel that way in 2004, nor does he seem to feel that way now. People however keep saying that but they never back it up. And if you think I haven't been insulted for my views here you haven't been paying attention to these threads. And I insulted no one here, I asked a question which I didn't get a no answer to, so take from that what you will. And this thread as presented certainly shows to me that the OP was intimating he did all of this to position himself politically or that the WH is some sort of "prize."

80. I believe more than ever the US must regain our good will around the world lost after
2 terms of the worst pResident (he never won) in our history. We have the responsibility to lead in combatting the ill effects of the climate crisis since we have been a major contributor to the problem in the first place. Mr Gore has the world wide respect-more than any other individual at this time, thanks to his work. I also believe he will be seen around the world as the leader who had he position stolen from him from the most despised man in the world. What did he do about it? He fought for the constitution, he fought for climate crisis awareness, he rolled up his sleeves after katrina and did what he could as * continued his vacation and speaking tour. These are signs of a great leader-something we truly need at this point in time.

I was never a Clinton supporter and had wished Gore was at the top of the ticket years ago, but held my nose and voted for Clinton regardless. Clinton is a better politician but certainly not a better leader or else he would have taken that surplus and re-built our infrastructure and pushed our nation toward environmental policies that Mr Gore was advocating many years ago. Now after years of corporate welfare, we need a leader who has the vision to move us through these difficult times (and we are definitely heading for some) ahead. Al Gore is that leader-imho.

81. You still didn't answer the question
HOW would he or for that matter anyone be more effective on this climate crisis NOW from in that same system that ignored him on this for thirty years especially in light of the damage done to it in the last seven years that Americans seem unwilling to take action against themselves? I am asking for specifics here, because I am sure you must have them in order to make such a statement.

82. Sometimes government must be used to direct action despite what some wish or
don't wish to do. We need to set policy that will direct the actions of the population into renewable energy use and away from consumer waste. I have heard a consumption tax proposed as a possible solution. What a leader does is set an agenda toward change and listen to experts on how to best implement policy to achieve this goal. We need a Environmental Marshall Plan that will drastically move us from a nation that strives for consumer "growth". We need to re-educate folks that shopping is not a cure all for a troubled economy. We do not have much time (the 11th Hours speaks of being at 11:59 and 59seconds on the clock where midnight is the point of no return. If we are to adopt policy that allows corporate America to lobby to what best suits them-then we are doomed as a specie.

this is why I am so vocal against those candidates who embrace the corporate elite-they just don't understand the urgency of the situation. It's a national security, economic, health and survival issue all rolled into one. I believe Al Gore best understands the urgency and is in the best position to lead us and the rest of much of the world in confronting this issue.

In essense-we can't keep the same system but need drastic change asap.

Edited on Tue Sep-18-07 02:13 PM by RestoreGore
Unless you do what Al Gore is doing now first. Hence my point. The system will not change until a groundswell from the people and companies comes from across the board with states taking the initiative to set the national pace. That is not going to happen by just "electing" anyone to an office when that groundswell is still not there. Al Gore sees that and has stated as much as well, and he is correct... And it then must come from US to all candidates on all levels regardless of party and those companies, which as of today it is not because it is not in the consciousness of a majority of the population enough to bring them to the point where the moral imperative overtakes the politically expedient.

-not to mention all of the unique experience, wisdom, vision and hope he'd bring along for our benefit.

The other candidates would be ok -and, of course tons better than what we've suffered these past years -and, of course I'll support the primary winner. But without the sort of *justice* that Gore's re-election would bring, it's difficult for me to become very excercised about the race.

44. Why all the fuss about Gore?
Just because he is head and shoulders above every other candidate currently running?

Just because he was cheated 8 years ago and should be just now finishing his second term?

Just because he could use his "Bully Pulpit" to help save the world from itself?

For these reasons I have to look at his adoring threads ad-nausea?

48. I'm hoping he makes his endorsement before it's too late
Gore's daughter already said categorically that an '08 run is not happening.

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2007/07/gore-daughter-0.html

I just hope that he makes his endorsement before it's too late to make a difference. He waited until mid-December 2003 to endorse Howard Dean.

51. Gore/Clark!
Now the best possible ticket. Both have a life outside of a presidential run. However, both would be the best possible people for the jobs of Pres and VP. On that basis alone, they should be the nominees. PS...they would win in a transformational landslide and bring a solidly Democratic Congress with them to make meaningful change.

I can dream, can't I?

But, regardless of who gets the nomination, we all have a lot of work to do to fight for a better America. It is not about personalities, it is about our future, and the ideals on which our country was founded.

54. I don't think he's running
Don't misunderstand: I'd love to see him run (especially with Kerry as VP, the Restoration Ticket) but I don't think he will. He's left it incredibly late if he's going to declare and the current candidates have a big lead on him in terms of funds. Also, more than most, he'd know how difficult it is to actually get anything meaningful done from the Whitehouse.

I think he'll stay a private figure and settle for bugging the hell out of Congress on enviromental issues (which could work out quite well).

55. Hmm
I wonder if he will run?

I mean with all that backing him up I really think he ought to.

However it reminds me of an exchange with Democratic candidate Adlai E Stevenson. A woman from the audience stated the following:'Senator, you have the vote of every thinking person!'

Stevenson called back 'That's not enough, madam, we need a majority!'

I also think of this rather sadly with regards to the Kucinich candidacy.

for Al Gore to change his mind, enter the race and win the nomination for 2008.

He could announce on November 4th (exactly one year out from the election) and go on to win in New Hampshire and nationwide.

So I will not give up all hope of Al Gore running again. At least not before November 5th.

THE LAST TEMPTATION OF AL GORE
By Eric Pooley
TIME Magazine -- May 17, 2007

Let's say you were dreaming up the perfect stealth candidate for 2008, a Democrat who could step into the presidential race when the party confronts its inevitable doubts about the front runners. You would want a candidate with the grass-roots appeal of Barack Obama -- someone with a message that transcends politics, someone who spoke out loud and clear and early against the war in Iraq. But you would also want a candidate with the operational toughness of Hillary Clinton -- someone with experience and credibility on the world stage.
In other words, you would want someone like Al Gore -- the improbably charismatic, Academy Award-winning, Nobel Prize-nominated environmental prophet with an army of followers and huge reserves of political and cultural capital at his command.

what makes you think he is even interested? After what the right wing has done to him in the past, why would he?
