appropo of pretty much nothing. just been rattling around in my brain with all my president al gore memorabilia.
back in the day, tip o'neil would have sat them all down and told them that if they didn't want to run as the republicans they are, they had to toe the democratic line when he said so. and i think old tip would have been smart enough to see that the mandate of the '06 election was to get the fuck out of the middle east. entirely.
i do regret these authoritarian longings on my part. but jesus christ, can't anyone save us?

Tip was Speaker during most of Reagan's presidency and while the Democrats had a majority during that time, Tip still couldn't prevent Democratic defections that allowed Reagan to pass major parts of his agenda.
