The Beauty Of A $5 or $10 Political Donation |
|
When a (maybe yours, maybe not) Senator or a Representative in the House do something right send their next campaign fund a contribution of just a few bucks, five or ten will do nicely, and send a note (e-mail) telling why you contributed. If the haven't done what you wanted or expected of them send them nothing, send them a note telling them why. If they are up for re-election and they haven't done what you wanted or expected send the five or ten to whoever is running against them - providing the opposition is saying the right things.
The point is twofold. First don't shoot your whole wad (which for many of us ain't much of a wad at all) at once because after they've emptied your wallet you aren't of much further value to them. The second is to reward them when they do good and do not reward them when the misbehave - just like training a stubborn dog.
There is a third and possibly more important motive for contributing this way as well. We all know they count dollars, but they also count the raw number of contributions. The two numbers do not tell the same story and every politician knows the difference. Large contributions may buy special consideration, and few doubt that they do, but large numbers of small contributions tell them if there will be votes back home next time around, something very important to a politician contemplating a long and rosy career under the dome of the Capital.

1. I like the idea enough to pursue it |
|
I guess it would take awhile to "max out" contributions to any given candidate.

2. It is a strategy for those of us of modest means to make our voices heard more clearly. |
