"The Bright Side of Ethnic Cleansing"
I had surgery last week and ended up wide awake at 3 am watching CSPAN (so much for pain killers.) Anyway, there was an airing of members of The Heritage Foundation having a bit of a chat regarding the Petraeus testimony and their take on the future of Iraq.

One Michael O'Hanlon stated that it might be a good idea to bring back a dictator (Iyad Alawi was mentioned). Then he mentioned the option of "soft partition" and remarked that it might be necessary to "look on the bright side of ethnic cleansing." It was 3 am and I couldn't believe I had just heard that - even from the neo-cons. But if you click the link and fast forward to the 59:00 mark and let it play for 5 minutes, you can hear for yourself.

It was unbelievable.

1. Un-fucking-believable.
Next up from your friendly neighborhood neo-con: How to put a happy face on Darfur. (No oil, and it's not like they're white or anything.)

3. There were protests during the seminar
That's why the Q&A session was cut short. I seriously could not believe I heard what I heard from these people.

2. This is not the only place in the Middle East where the option of forced ethnic cleansing is being
openly discussed.

Avigdor Lieberman (no relation to Joe) belongs to the ruling coalition of Israel, and his party openly advocates ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian minority in Israel (currently at 20%).

While this policy is not currently being carried out, on a regular basis the IDF destroys Bedouin homes in Israel, and destroys other Palestinians homes within the '48 borders.
