Kucinich Calls News Conference to Address Greenspan's Stunning Admission: 'The Iraq War is Largely About Oil'

http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/news_press_release,178478.shtml

LAS VEGAS, Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Democratic Presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich, whose long-ignored claims that oil was the principal reason for the invasion of Iraq, has scheduled a news conference here tomorrow (Monday) to address the stunning admission by former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan that "the Iraq War is largely about oil."

In his memoir to be released today, "The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World," Greenspan disclosed, "I am saddened that it is politically inconvenient to acknowledge what everyone knows: the Iraq war is largely about oil."

"I have been saying that for five years," said Kucinich, the only Democratic Presidential candidate who voted against the Iraq war in 2002 and every subsequent supplemental funding appropriation since. "Everyone from the President to my colleagues in the House and Senate who voted for this war have been denying it and scoffing at the notion. Now, the former Fed Chairman corroborates that I have been right all along."

Kucinich said Greenspan's admissions, offered unapologetically and matter- of-factly in his book, raise serious questions about the judgment, the leadership, and the credibility of the other candidates who have been denying the war-for-oil argument. "They have to be challenged for being complicit either in their silence or in their blindness, and that's what I intend to do," Kucinich said.

Dennis is right and Greenspan is now backing out

2. I know
I don't understand. My husband says he can't get elected because he is too "different" Well I say, isn't it time for something "different". You would think that the state this country is in would prompt people to look for something new, different, fresh. But no, they still look for who "looks the most presidential". I just don't understand it.

4. OK
Not trying to flame you here - just a question. I like Dennis & want to support him, but what gets me hung up is that he was anti-abortion until a few years ago. Has he stated why he switched? I hope it's not just because he wanted to run to President & it would make him more attractive to liberals. Other than that Dennis is A-OK to me :)

5. He has...
As for me, I'm more suspicious of those who were somehow fooled by Bush's lies into giving him enough rope as they did, but now they'll know better and won't be misled by trumped up, cherrypicked intel.

10. That has been done to death. Dennis has answered that question
solidly. Kucinich is the real deal, if he tells you something, it is the truth and you can bank on it.

15. If we continue to give more power to the system and let them...
keep attacking the constitution, the system will making all of our personal decisions sooner than later. This is why I don't like any candidate that keeps mentioning terror, terror, terror. We would all feel allot better if our government stopped with the fear campaigns and that tells me that the ones that are using it, like their ability to change the constitution as it fits their cause. I read that Collin Powell warns of a terror industrial complex, we already know that history warned us of the military industrial complex and what it has created. There is too much money in Washington and anyone using fear is just trying to cash in at our expense.

3. A slight issue with the article:
"I have been saying that for five years," said Kucinich, the only Democratic Presidential candidate who voted against the Iraq war in 2002 and every subsequent supplemental

Yes, Kucinich is the only candidate who was in Congress at the time to vote against the war. But to say he's the only candidate to vote against it is a bit disingenuous. Obama, for one, opposed the war on record during that time, but was not a member of the Congress. He was serving his home state constituents at that time, but just the same, he was against the war.

8. not disingenuous at all
it did not say he was the only candidate 'to oppose' the war, several candidates did, it said the only candidate 'who voted against' the war which is plainly, factually accurate

plus it says 'and every subsequent supplemental'... Obama has repeatedly voted to fund the war.

that he's the only candidate who hasn't voted for funding...which Obama has until this last supplemental.

16. I get tired of writing it so often, but once again, this is the candidate that is right.
He is right on this and every other major issue we face in this nation, and he is right in his ideas of what direction we need to go to ensure a secure future, too.

But as Redqueen said, "*sigh*".

than Kucinich. Kind of telling isn't it that a lying Candidate get's more attention than one who tells the truth and has been telling it.

26. Compare the reaction: 2 messengers, same message
Kucinich is either ignored or ridiculed for saying the same thing that Greenspan says and is treated as a wise man and given lots of air time.

Kucinich is right again:

Kucinich said Greenspan's admissions, offered unapologetically and matter- of-factly in his book, raise serious questions about the judgment, the leadership, and the credibility of the other candidates who have been denying the war-for-oil argument. "They have to be challenged for being complicit either in their silence or in their blindness, and that's what I intend to do," Kucinich said.
