Brett Somers, famed for ‘Match Game,’ has died
Rest in peace, funny lady. Thank you for all the laughs.

"WESTPORT, Conn. - Actress and comedian Brett Somers, who amused game show fans with her quips on the “Match Game” in the 1970s, has died, her son said. She was 83.

Somers died Saturday at her home in Westport of stomach and colon cancer, Adam Klugman said Monday.

Hosted by Gene Rayburn, “Match Game” was the top game show during much of the 1970s. Contestants would try to match answers to nonsense questions with a panel of celebrities; much of the humor came from the racy quips and putdowns..."

11. "Adam Klugman" quoted in the article.
Evidently they had child(ren) together. :(

I hate when a comic dies. Less laughter in the world.

7. Funny as hell, she was.
As another poster pointed out, she had a recurring role in the Odd Couple TV series, playing the former Blanche Madison. She and her real-life husband Jack Klugman were wonderful comic foils on that show.

A true character.

I hate to see she died from stomach and colon cancer. That's a bad way to go.

16. I just saw part of an episode of that during a plane flight...
Edited on Mon Sep-17-07 05:38 PM by Tom Joad
it was odd to see all those dead people looking so healthy and in their 70's clothing/hair styles. It was almost spooky. Charles Nelson Reilly was also on that old program.
watching it made me think of all the people in my life who were around then.

So it goes.

Rest in Peace, Brett.

(there is a whole cable network dedicated to game shows, and they broadcast the old ones too. )

19. That was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid, and she was a big reason why.
I loved everyone on that show--they were so funny, and watching Gene Rayburn try to rein them in was like watching a teacher with a ruly bunch of third-graders. Most of the time, he didn't have a chance!

RIP, Brett--we'll miss you. :loveya:
