Just curious. Who among you is still
boycotting ABC? I have not watched or patronized ABC, Disney or any other Disney holding since 9.10.06 and the Path to 911 fiasco. Am I still in good company or is the wider boycott ended?

2. I haven't watched anything on ABC in years.
I still enjoy Disneyland. Not going to Disneyland strikes me as not watching Simpsons because of something Bill O'Reilly said.

4. I used to watch Lost and Extreme Makeover Home Edition
and a couple other things, but not since they propagandized September 11th rather than pursue and tell the truth.

6. Wouldn't it be a little more effective...
to boycott the advertisers on the shows you don't like?

10. Actually, I am very good at boycotting. I do indeed already
boycott a long list of companies and products. Which actually flies in the face of all that is the typical NASCAR fan, such as me. Fans of the sport are notorious for supporting sponsoring entities. But, there are many NASCAR sponsors that are also on my shit-list. I've been researching whether or not I can get away with boycotting Chinese goods. A woman recently wrote a book about her family's boycott of Chinese goods and she came to the conclusion that it was not entirely possible. So, I still have some thought to put in on the China issue.

23. If we don't watch the tube, the ads aren't worth paying for
Why complain about what's on TeeVee? If you don't like what's on TeeVee, just turn it off. Hearing complaints about censorship, violence, propaganda, discrimination or general lack of quality on television like listening to a bunch of regulars sitting in a bar complaining about the bar-as if someone forces them to go there and drink! As if there isn't a whole world outside the bar.

When you turn the tube off, the advertisers and opinion shapers no longer have a way into your home. They can no longer mess with your kids. They can't lie to you. They can't make you want a burger. They can't insult your intelligence. They can't undermine your self-esteem. They can't wear you out with their propaganda. They can't scare you, make you see the world as a consumer, or change your brain waves with their blinking screen.

Why give these people access to your brain, your heart, your children? And for free! Your time is worth nothing in this equation. It is assumed that we will sit for hours. Even if we complain loudly, they are confident we will still watch. Let's disappoint them, shall we?

The media corporations, and the ad industry are the enemies of a self-determining, active and informed citizenry. They are the front line in the effort to confuse people, and to define and control the debate for the corporate overlords. We are fighting these people and their dreadful ideas every day. So, why make them welcome in our living rooms?

Life is short. Choose reality. Amuse yourself.

9. If you're not a Nielson household, why bother consciously excluding a station?
Edited on Mon Sep-17-07 05:58 PM by Marr
It's not like they'll ever know you stopped tuning in. I don't see much TV myself, but it's because I'm busy and frankly, there's nothing but crap on TV.

principle to me. They lied about 911. The government has lied about 911. I was always an occasional political/environmental activist. That is until 911. I've always been a simple construction tradesman that has made occasional forays into politics and current events while other times I was completely tuned out. On 911, I saw that shit happen with my own two eyes and it sealed my proactiveness for the rest of my life. I'm even thinking of running for city council someday. And maybe beyond, if I can.

Continuing to watch ABC knowing how they aired that load of crap even as controversial as it was, would work a blister on my conscience. They showed me that they are an integral cog in the giant machinery that is chewing up our democracy as sure as the Langoliers chewed up reality.

service knows which channels are blocked...no? Probably a far more accurate gauge than Nielson ratings. But then, we would not know...would we?

17. ABC never had much I liked anyway so when they started the
9/11 hit on Clinton I permanently programmed it out of my remote. Everyone yells about the media. I don't watch, NBC, CBS, ABC or Fox news. I havent' since before the 2000 elections. I got sick of the crap they were pushing. And then I programmed out CNN and Fox Cable. I watch CNN Headlines news but just to get updates. I read the internet news sites.

you could call that boycott.

Well,,, once in a great while (6 mos or so) , in an airport, hotel room or similar venue I will check things out just to see how far things have degraded.

20. I haven't watched ABC in so many years,,I can't remembr..but I would have honored Boycott
if I had been a watcher of their crap. I left ABC when Koppel on Nightline went after Jimmy Carter. I watched for awhile but realized that Network left me when they were pushing Bob Gates to be head of CIA.. (that Bob Gates who has resurfaced under Bush).

I felt Koppel was biased...just something I thought at the time..

Fox only to follow the Carolina Panthers, Fox Sports South for Hurricanes hockey, Versus for Hurricanes hockey, NBC for any NHL game, USA Network for Monk, and CNN for Larry King if momma is on. That's about it for TV except for pay channels for a movie. One thing about TV since our government has been overthrown, I watch it a lot less and I read.
