Cranking up his best tough-talkin' Texan rhetoric, Bush today announced the selection of retired Judge Michael Mukasey to replace his leetle tejano Torquemada Gonzales as the 81st attorney general of the United States.

Here's what The Decider said about Mukasey this morning: "He earned the reputation as a tough but fair judge. . . . As a judge and a private lawyer, he's written on matters of constitutional law and national security. He knows what it takes to fight this war effectively. Judge Mukasey's clear-eyed about the threat our nation faces."

Great, another pro-war neo-Fascist who sees the U.S. Constitution as nothing more than a “goddam piece of paper” as Bush does. Is everything about war to this monster? Can The Decider make no decisions without looking through the bloody lens of his never-ending terror wars?

No surprise, it was Mukasey who, as a federal district court judge, decided that Bush had the authority to classify American citizen Jose Padilla an enemy combatant, which was later reversed by the Court of Appeals. The Washington Post refers to Mukasey as a "law-and-order conservative" who has recently served as a legal advisor to presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani. We'll see how the Senate Democrats react to yet another right-wing ideologue as the confirmation process begins.

In other news, Alan Greenspan's new book is making political headlines for its claims that Bush was irresponsible with the government’s spending and consequent enormous budget deficits. "My biggest frustration remained the president's unwillingness to wield his veto against out-of-control spending," Greenspan wrote in "The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World." Greenspan was also highly critical of Bush's numerous tax cuts (for the wealthy) which further reduced government revenues. Conveniently, Greenspan fails to acknowledge his key part in the fiscal meltdown presided over by the most incompetent administration is U.S. presidential history.

But the biggest political shocker in the book is not the U.S. fiscal structure Bush has destroyed, but, rather, is about Iraq. In one sentence Greenspan states what millions of Americans have been saying – screaming – since Chucklenuts began talking up war, death, invasion and the theft of Iraq’s resources five years ago. The former Fed Chairman and right-wing co-conspirator writes: "I am saddened that it is politically inconvenient to acknowledge what everyone knows: the Iraq war is largely about oil." No shit.

What took him so long to speak up? Was he just waiting for the reported $8 million book advance? How many U.S. soldiers and Iraqi civilians died while Greenspan pecked away at his word processor?

Reports say Bush was surprised by Greenspan's criticism. He didn't think there was a conservative in Washington not firmly ensconced in his back pocket.

We'll discuss these issues, with a dash of Condi news and Hillary health care, on the program tonight!
