A Grammy next? With an Oscar and an Emmy, Al Gore says he's working on his singing....
NYT/AP: Gore Adds Emmy to His Awards Success
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: September 17, 2007

NEW YORK (AP) -- Though his documentary won an Oscar and he now has an Emmy, Al Gore doesn't rate his chances high for a Grammy. ''I'm working on my dance steps and singing performance, but don't hold your breath,'' the former vice president said with a laugh Monday, speaking by phone from Los Angeles. But it might have sounded equally ludicrous five years ago to suggest that Gore would, in one calendar year, receive standing ovations at both the Academy Awards and the Emmys.

At Sunday night's Emmy ceremony, Gore and Joel Hyatt were honored for creative achievement in interactive television for the cable channel they founded, Current TV. This follows the best documentary Oscar that ''An Inconvenient Truth'' won earlier this year. The film chronicles Gore's campaign to educate people on global warming. For the same cause, Gore helped organize Live Earth this summer, a series of global concerts held to raise awareness for climate change.

''It reminds me a little bit of the old cliche about the country singer who said, `It's taken me 30 years to be an overnight sensation,''' said Gore. ''In each one of them, I've had great partners.''

Hyatt said Gore remains thoroughly involved in Current TV, the network the two founded in 2005. Current TV predated the sensation caused by YouTube, but operated with a similar mission. Its viewer-created ''pods'' -- short video segments that usually run about five minutes in length -- make up about a third of its programming....

***

The fast-growing Current TV now claims to be in more than 50 million homes worldwide. It also plans to relaunch its Web site next month, which Hyatt says will be a considerable evolution for Current. ''We are really excited about this recognition of the creative work of the thousands of young people who actually made the content,'' said Gore.

4. If Gore doesn't run then
the Dem who wins would be remiss not to appoint Al Gore as head of the EPA, eh?

Imagine having someone who cared about our environment instead of a watts or gail norton?

16. Either Gore or RFK, Jr.
And, that would be a great ticket in and of itself.

10. Ever notice the tendency for pugs to have downturned lips? Al's got those lovely upturned lips
even when he's not smiling. So does Queen Latifa. It's odd and funny.

8. Why Doesn't He Get It?
I'm hoping he does, and is just not ready to enter the race yet.

But does he realize that NOW is his opportunity to become President? Does he realize that he regardless of his age, he may never have the same opportunity to do so again? That this moment is his if he chooses to take it?

Or is he really just that content to give up what most who spent the majority of their life in politics, consider the utmost achievement. There are few who can say they were President Of The United States, and Al could be one of them.

I'm still holding out hope for Late October. I guess we'll see, but the current silence is concerning me, in addition to the report he's writing a book for release next April. Would he be doing so if he was planning on campaigning for the next few months?

11. I'd venture a guess that he "gets it" more than most. Unlike Fred Thompson, he's not rushing into
this decision.

9. You don't have to do something musical to win a Grammy
Both Bill and Hillary have one for Best Spoken Word Recording. Bill has a second one for Best Children's Record (for his and Sophia Loren's and someone else's narration of "Peter and the Wolf").

Al certainly could do the same thing.

13. Well, hell, why not go for a grammy? He could read from powerful U.S.
addresses -- the Gettsburg Address and so on -- or bring in a hot rhythm section and crank out a sizzlin' cover of "Whole Lotta Love."

I'd probably buy a copy.

"Al Gore", by the Tennessee band "Monkey Bowl" -- that really is his voice on the recording.

19. Gore would win a Grammy if he sang "I'm Takin' My Country Back"
I played this song (by the Honky Tonkers for Truth) every morning back in 2004 before I went out to register new voters. (Ended up registering 909 new voters myself.) I sent a link to the song out to country music stations all around the country back then, and many of whom played (and re-played) the song. We also played it at meetings of Gathering To Save Our Democracy here in the Orange State as we assembled to avoid more stolen elections.

Here are the lyrics for those of you who don't know this gem.
-----
TAKIN' MY COUNTRY BACK

COUNTRY MUSIC'S GOT MAMAS AND DADDYS
WE GOT BAR ROOMS AND OLD HEARTBREAK SONGS
BUT I 'M HERE TODAY TO STAND UP AND SAY
HOW I FEEL ABOUT MY HOME SWEET HOME
WHAT'S LEFT, WHAT'S RIGHT AND WHAT'S WRONG... AND

I’M TAKIN’ MY COUNTRY BACK
SON, YOU AIN'T BEEN DOIN’ HER RIGHT
OH I BEEN WATCHIN’ YOU AND I DON’T LIKE
HOW YOU'VE BEEN TREATIN’ MY STARS AND STRIPES
YOU TOOK OUR JOBS AND SENT ‘EM OVERSEAS
NOW WE OWE BILLIONS TO THE RED CHINESE
YOU BLEW THE BUDGET AND YOU BOTCHED IRAQ
SO I’M TAKIN’ MY COUNTRY BACK

WE HAD A BUNDLE IN THE TREASURY DRAWER
MORE THAN THERE HAD EVER BEEN BEFORE
BUT EVERY DAY WE'RE DROWNIN' DEEPER IN DEBT
MAYBE FOUR YEARS SHOULD BE ALL YOU GET
THEN YOU GAVE TAX BREAKS TO THE MILLIONAIRES
AND TRIED TO MAKE THE WORKIN’ MAN PAY
BUT YOU CAN’T TAX A MAN WHEN HIS JOBS NOT THERE
NOW LOOK AT WHERE WE ARE TODAY…HEY

I’M TAKIN’ MY COUNTRY BACK
SON, YOU AIN'T BEEN DOIN’ HER RIGHT
OH I BEEN WATCHIN’ YOU AND I DON’T LIKE
HOW YOU'VE BEEN TREATIN’ MY STARS AND STRIPES
YOU GOT TOO MANY FANCY FRIENDS FOR ME
THE SAUDIS TREAT YOU LIKE YOU'RE ROYALTY
YOU BLEW THE BUDGET AND YOU BOTCHED IRAQ
NOW I’M TAKIN’ MY COUNTRY BACK

NOW I CAN UNDERSTAND WHY YOU WERE HOT
'CAUSE BIN LADEN NEVER DID GET CAUGHT
SO YOU SAID WE HAD SADDAM TO BLAME
TRIED TO TELL US IT WAS ALL THE SAME
BUT NOW THE YEARS ROLL BY AND OUR KIDS KEEP DYIN'
YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE A PLAN TO BRING 'EM HOME
AND THOSE W.M.D. YOU PROMISED ON T.V.
HEY ADMIT IT, YOU FIGURED IT WRONG... SO I'M TAKIN' MY COUNTRY BACK

NOW YOU DON’T KNOW MY NAME, BUT YOU KNOW WHO I AM
I'M YOUR EVERYDAY WORK HARD, PLAY HARD
RAISE KIDS AND PRAY HARD COMMON MAN....
AND LORD KNOWS I LOVE THIS LAND...THAT'S WHY

I’M TAKIN’ MY COUNTRY BACK
SON, YOU AIN'T BEEN DOIN’ HER RIGHT
OH I BEEN WATCHIN’ YOU AND I DON’T LIKE
HOW YOU'VE BEEN TREATIN’ MY STARS AND STRIPES
YOU SAY "UNITE" BUT YOU DIVIDE US MORE
CUSSIN' EACH OTHER ON THE SENATE FLOOR
AIN'T WE SUPPOSED TO BE ABOVE ALL THAT ?
HEY I’M TAKIN’ MY COUNTRY BACK
I GOT MY FAMILY AND MY CHURCH AND FLAG...
NOW I'M TAKIN' MY COUNTRY BACK

Brought to you by the
Honky Tonkers for Truth
