1. More people wash their hands after eating than after changing a diaper?
That's messed up.

26. I think we've covered this topic in Health
Same story I believe. I ALWAYS wash my hands after changing a diaper, and also BEFORE handling anything my daughter may ingest, or use to ingest food or drink. I wash my hands before I get her a plate, and fork, a spoon, a cup, a bottle of water with the sport cap that we buy for her. I wash my hands BEFORE I put away the clean dishes from the dishwasher. I wash my hands after playing with the dog or the rabbit, just anytime that might prevent someone, especially the kid, from getting an intestinal bug. If everyone did this then fewer people would be ill, especially those who are immune deficient and more susceptible to those little infections that don't make you really sick but do make you really miserable.

4. My bathroom survey - women only 'dont wash' when the sink area is empty.
When in the stall I hear women flush, leave the stall and head out the door. When out of the stall, standing at the sink, women never blow past me without washing.

7. I'd rather use hand sanitizer outside public restroom.
Surfaces in there are nasty, including the door handle.

16. I agree. I carry sanitizer, and often use it after using a public restroom
Still haven't figured out how to exit the bathroom without touching the door.

18. that's easy
Dry your hands with a paper towel, then use that towel to open the BR door. Discard the towel at the first trash can -- usually right outside the door, placed there so people can drop their beverage cup when going IN.

If you frequent a bathroom that doesn't have paper towels, carry a kleenex in your pocket. I've even used a bit of toilet paper to open the door. I'm NEVER going to touch that door with bare hands.

6. I've seen it.
My friends and my sister all started having babies a few years ago. I guess it's partly because of the parent-child hypnosis that makes them all believe their baby is the most beautiful, perfect angel to grace the planet and partly because around the fiftieth time you've put your hand in baby shit you get used to it. But, yeah, this doesn't surprise me a bit.

8. I wash almost everywhere I go
And that in itself is an art form: a delicate balance in not making hand contact with any surfaces.

But mass urinals, e.g. concerts, etc., typically have urine-soaked floors and I just want to get me and my urine contaminated shoes out of there--fast.

Not sure about conditions at Turner Field.

When I had to do that task I wanted to wear one of those hazardous waste suits and use a 6 foot pole to move the diaper into the trash....

Blah!

11. Disgusting........
I am obsessed with washing my hands after just about anything so this disturbs me. I do have to admit I go overboard but after reading this I'll be back to using tissue to touch doorknobs.

13. I touch nothing in a public restroom
Not the handles, or latches or towel dispensers. Now there are towel dispensers that work when you wave your hand in front of them. I take a towel and use that to turn handles.

millions in health care costs.

Lack of hand washing is how we spread colds and flu

I don't obsessively wash my hands every 5 minutes and I almost never get sick.

It is almost an epidemic here. Washing is a MUST.

...but if we have it where I live it's not affecting me.

Like I said, no obsessive hand washing or sanitizing, and I almost never get sick. I touch the fixtures in public bathrooms and everything.
