Constitution - who needs it?
I found this article in the local paper a little disturbing.

Many students said if someone's life could be saved, they don't object to giving up civil liberties.

In a terrorism course he teaches, Giordano said about 75 percent of students have said they support the torture of someone for the sake of getting information that might save another life.

1. I think those sorts of polls are flawed
I mean ask the questions a certain way and a lot of people here might answer in the affirmative (the first one anyway) - does that mean we don't believe in preserving our constitution? No.

be for damning the US with this stain? For example, in a study of Gitmo detainees, over 50 % weren't connected with the Taliban or al queda and have not taken up arms against the US. This is where we need a free press operating as a fourth estate. Without it, we're a sick nation that has lost any sense of reality and/or humanity.

3. "Those who would give up essential liberties...."
"Those who would give up essential liberties for a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." -- Benjamin Franklin.

Why the bloody hell is this quote not a mandatory part of each and every civics class in this country?
