http://www.boston.com/news/world/europe/articles/2007/09/18/cartoonist_in_hiding_after_qaeda_threat/Wasn't this person found to be fictitious? And this is the second time in the last few weeks that his name has be mentioned in news articles. I can't find the other article, but I'll keep looking.

1. According to the U.S. Military |
|
However, in July 2007, the U.S. military reported that al-Baghdadi never actually existed. The detainee identified as Khaled Abdul-Fattah Dawoud Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, a self-proclaimed intermediary to Osama bin Laden, claimed that al-Baghdadi was a fictional character created to give an Iraqi face to a foreign-run terror group, and that statements attributed to al-Baghdadi were actually read by an Iraqi actor.

Why would newspapers continue to attribute quotes to someone who supposedly never existed?

It is actually a twist on a tactic that cheney et al use here domestically. You know how cheney or libby would call a "reporter" with "background" (mis)information, meaning that they couldn't be mentioned as the source, and then go on MTP and quote the article that they just planted as rational for their policies.
It really is all the same. They make up a pretend person and use them for propaganda.
It is alarming, though, that a newspaper would blatently use a source that any journalist would know does not exist. This should get to KO, he'll out the bastards.

You're cute. :hi:
I'll help you out because you made me smile.
btw, as a poster pointed out up thread, this administration has repeatedly planted stories in order that it can cite them in support of their lies and manipulation,...what you have done is posted further prove/evidence of the foregoing charge.

I know they plant stories, I thought this one was just too much. Maybe they're trying to test how closely we pay attention, although it's already clear that the average American pays no attention whatsoever.
