Why would Alan Keyes want to run for President?
Edited on Tue Sep-18-07 09:16 AM by Blue_Roses
Come on, he can't possibly win... or is he just that arrogant...

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Alan Keyes is hoping the third time’s the charm.

The conservative Republican is taking his third stab at running for the White House.

Keyes announced his candidacy Friday on a conservative radio talk show, saying he was unimpressed with the current GOP field.

“I just have been watching and following and haven't heard what is needed, and I think I'm like a lot of folks, who have just looked at it and been unmoved,” said Keyes...

1. it's a silly republican notion
that they can split the Democratic vote.

The only one who will vote for Keyes... is Keyes

3. I don't know, but I love it.
He's such a nut. He actually draws attention to the insanity of Republicanism, imho.

And he's always good for a laugh.

4. Keyes makes the other Republics seem sane and moderate
by comparison.

It's been the Republica M.O. for decades - Reagan made Ford seem moderate and sane; Pat Robertson, etc made Bush Sr seem moderate and sane; Pat Buchanan made Dole seem moderate and sane.

The same way they have Ann Coulter, Michael Savage, Michelle Malkin, etc. They are so looney and out there that most Republican politicians seems moderate in comparison, even if they are far right.

I must have said it 200 times on DU over the past four years, but in 1964 Barry Goldwater was seen as a dangerous radical conservative. But, if you compare him to John McCain, Goldwater seems far more moderate than McCain, and positively liberal when compared to Brownback, Cornyn, Cochran, DeMint, etc. It's because the RW has effectively used Limbaugh, Coulter, Malkin, etc to appear more moderate.

5. He thinks he can pick up the all-important
"Voters Who Like Candidates Who Sound Like Marvin the Martian" demographic.

Plus he really is that arrogant and needs the limelight, and since he doesn't have any more lesbian daughters that he can kick out of his house, running for president is the next best thing.

6. We just might see a Obama v. Keyes rematch
if Obama wins and the Rethugs stick to principle and nominate a "true conservative" (ha ha ha!!!). We Obama whipped him pretty good the last time.

8. Isn't It Clear? He will draw attention away from Ron Paul every chance he can get....
However, do not underestimate the entertainment value of Keyes at a Repub Debate.

He will be the sideshow that draws attention to the Repub candidates, and make them rest look positively reasonable in comparison.

9. He is as egotistical as Nader...and bush and cheney and rove
and all the other stupid republican candidates. I think when you have no support like some of the republican and democratic candidates you should get out of the race.
