ARRRGH YE MATIES! It's the Rise of Piratarianism!!!!
http://spanklin.110mb.com/index.php?m=09&y=07&entry=entry070918-154055

A student has been suspended from school in America for coming to class dressed as a pirate.

But the disciplinary action has provoked controversy – because the student says that the ban violates his rights, as the pirate costume is part of his religion.

Bryan Killian says that he follows the Pastafarian religion, and that as a crucial part of his faith, he must wear 'full pirate regalia' as prescribed in the holy texts of Pastafarianism.

The school, however, say that his pirate garb was disruptive.

Pastafarians follow the Flying Spaghetti Monster (pictured), and believe that the world was created by the touch of his noodly appendage. Furthermore, they acknowledge pirates as being 'absolute divine beings', and stress that the worldwide decline in the number of pirates has directly led to global warming.

Pastafarianism gained wide attention when its key prophet, Bobby Henderson, wrote to the Kansas School Board during the height of the controversy over 'Intelligent Design' being taught in science classes. His letter, also published on his website, demanded equal time be given to the teachings of the Flying Spaghetti Monster as was given to ID and evolutionary theory.

Since then, the Flying Spaghetti Monster has gained countless followers worldwide, although there are those who remain spagnostic.

The school, in North Buncombe, North Carolina, remains adamant that their decision to suspend Killian for a day has nothing to do with his religion, and quite a lot to do with his repeated refusal to heed warnings against wearing pirate outfits.

7. Back in my day (late 1980s), nobody made a stink about shirts with captions reading
"Metal up your ass" (complete with picture), and others...

Surely a pirate outfit is a hell of a lot less disruptive?!

But to make a long story short: F all this S. Enforce school uniforms for all and be done with all of it. He can wear what he wants after classes, but not during. Then nobody can complain.

Flame away.

29. Did his costume have baggy pants?
Edited on Tue Sep-18-07 03:06 PM by undergroundpanther
First they take away the costumes, then they tell us what to wear..and how..

Some meddling shit head political wank with nothing to get riled up about because they are fucking stupid,or republicans, wanna tell people what not to wear and fine them for it.

I hate these self appointed "guardians of cultural decency".Now they want to ban pirate costumes and baggy pants too.How DARE we plebians have a look of our own!
Thar seems to be a pattern!
http://www.philly.com/philly/hp/news_update/20070916_ap_pullemupuscitiesstartingcrackdownsonpantssaggers.html

Here come the Fascist fashion police to tell us what not to wear. I guess if that kid dressed in Fascist lite uniform ..I.e.khakis and polo shirt nothing would have been said.
FUCK the FASHION POLICE!They'll never be happy until we all look talk act the same.

Well, allow me to introduce myself to you as an advocate of Ornamental Knowledge. You like the mind to be a neat machine, equipped to work efficiently, if narrowly, and with no extra bits or useless parts.I like the mind to be a dustbin of scraps of brilliant fabric, odd gems, worthless but fascinating curiosities, tinsel, quaint bits of carving, and a reasonable amount of healthy dirt. Shake the machine and it goes out of order; shake the dustbin and it adjusts itself beautifully to its new position.

There is, of course, no reason why the new totalitarianisms
should resemble the old. Government by clubs and firing squads,by artificial famine, mass imprisonment and mass deportation, is not merely inhumane (nobody cares much about that nowadays); it is demonstrably inefficient -- and in an age of advanced technology, inefficiency is the sin against the Holy Ghost. A really efficient totalitarian state would be one in which the all-powerful executive of political bosses and their army of managers control a population of slaves who do not have to be coerced, because they love their servitude. To make them love it is the task assigned, in present day totalitarian states, to ministries of propaganda, newspaper editors, and school teachers.... The greatest triumphs of propaganda have been accomplished, not by doing something, but by refraining from doing. Great is truth, but still greater, from a practical point of view, is silence about truth. By simply not mentioning certain subjects...totalitarian propagandists have influenced opinion much more effectively than they could have done by the most eloquent denunciations, the most compelling of logical rebuttals...Aldous Huxley

It is scary when you spend a half hour looking for your own sister in a store..because she looks so much like everyone else.

30. It saddens me
to see that it has come to this.

A chance mistranslation of the Bread Stick Scrolls has yielded a vast misconception of His original intent.

The clues are there for all to see:

Spaghetti!

Meatballs!

His Noodly Appendage!!!

The very name of our Belief cries out its origins!!

Pastafarianism!

It has absolutely nothing to do with Pirates. The critical phrase was misinterpreted from the original "Orfey ethey liedpay heirtey adetray uponway theway atersway inway ipedstray hirtsway.", or "They plied their trade upon the waters in striped shirts." Originally, this was thought to refer to Pirates, but a recent re-examination of the original has shown that they clearly refer not to Pirates, but Gondoliers!

Think about it - if worldwide global warming was due to the decline of Pirates, how do you explain the continued rise in temperatures in the face of the vast increase of the numbers of Pirates; software Pirates, movie Pirates, Pittsburgh Pirates, etc!

That global warming is due to the precipitate decline in the number of Gondoliers is self evident! It was supposed to be a self-regulating mechanism. With the rise in sea levels due to Gondolier deficit induced global warming, there would be need for more Gondoliers; with the increase in Gondoliers, the temperatures and sea levels would even out.

It's all so obvious!

Spaghetti!

Meatballs!

Gondoliers!

Venice!

Italy!

Pastafariansim!

It all fits!

The great sadness is that so many who would have otherwise been truly Touched By His Noodly Appendage are destined to stray from the True Path!
