NYT - Waxman's investigation of State Department Inspector General

One sentence in this story stopped me in my tracks. Can you guess what it is?

1. this one?
Since Democrats gained control of the House in the 2006 elections, Mr. Waxman has made no secret of his relish in probing activities of the Bush administration.

3. however,
I hardly think Rep. Waxman has been crowing and preening all over DC, bragging about "relishing" these investigations.

5. ding ding ding! We have our winnah!
Yes, what the f!@# is that sentence doing in there?

So is Waxman investigating this Bush crony, one more in a long line who puts his loyalty to the Bush adminstration above his duty to American taxpayers, just to satisfy his unwholesome "relish" in probing activites of Bushies?

This is seriously screwed up "reporting".

4. Not sure but this was my wtf moment:
"In the inquiry involving Kenneth Tomlinson, State Department investigators determined that Mr. Tomlinson had used his office to run a “horse racing operation” and had improperly put a friend on the payroll, according to a summary of a report made public by a Democratic lawmaker. "

Horse racing?

The Washington Post article re this has some interesting quotes.

which he said came from several current and former employees of that office, who documented their charges with e-mails.

7. Wow! A complete rewrite since I posted this thread.
Originally there was a stand alone sentence in the middle of the story that said

"Since Democrats gained control of the House in the 2006 elections, Mr. Waxman has made no secret of his relish in probing activities of the Bush administration"

That now reads as:

"Last year, when Republicans still controlled Congress, they tried to do away with the Office of the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction, which had uncovered numerous construction abuses and contract violations. Mr. Waxman was furious, and he has made no secret of his relish in probing activities of the Bush administration now that Democrats are in control".

In fact the entire article has pretty much been completely re-written and it's much much better, more factual and more in depth. I bet he had his ass kicked by his editor.
