Is spending too much time on DU harmful?
Are you just getting one side of the story?

Are you just getting data and information that reinforces you
own thoughts?

Do you think that you are in the majority because you spend time
w/ the fun loving minority called DU?

Do you ever worry about bad threads you have started?

Kidding. However, if you find yourself bleeding unexpectedly and there's a chance that DU caused it, you should probably log out and consult a doctor.

8. Yes.
Mostly to the last question, though I wonder if the polls are honest when it comes to the war. I live in a heavily democratic area, and I am still meeting people who think Iraq was related to 9/11

11. Which is why we all should be active on a local level too
I love my local Dems. I'm by far the most liberal, but they love that about me. They also love my energy and how well versed I am on current events. The latter I attribute in a large part to my time I spend here on DU.

14. K & R
It's extremely important to get all sides of an issue and to question with boldness what you read on DU.

Thanks you for posting this!

One thing to note: Most of what is posted on DU tends to check out and there is also a lot of lively debate here. There is a lot less walking in lock step than what you see over at freerepublic.

21. Okay
Is spending too much time on DU harmful? Yes. If for no other reason, people need to get out and enjoy the real world once in a while.

Are you just getting one side of the story? No, because DU is not the only place I get information.

Are you just getting data and information that reinforces you
own thoughts? No, see above.

Do you think that you are in the majority because you spend time
w/ the fun loving minority called DU? Certainly not.

Do you ever worry about bad threads you have started? Nah. My "bad" threads have all been started in the Lounge.

24. I was immediately struck by the title of your thread.
For me it has been very destructive.

No, I don't think it is because I am only getting one side of the story though.

Before, I found the internet and DU, I was only getting ONE side of the story. Needless to say, I eventually found it wanting.

I have grown here. I don't take everything I read anymore at face value. I for the most part, seek out other analysis and commentary from bloggers that I have grown to respect.

I will still get caught up and sucked in to things that turn out to be not true. But, I NEVER repeat the rumors to non-DUers anymore. I have had too much mud on my face because of it.

More than 50% of the time DUers are in line with the mainstream netroots.

OMG I have started threads regarding my personal life in times of weakness that I wish I NEVER started.

So getting back to your original question:

Yes. My participation has been both bad and beneficial to my mental health.

25. Yes -- my kids think the computer is now an appendage
My family thinks I'm obsessed and -- you know -- they're right.

DU has been harmful to my life in that I sometimes neglect important family things to sit here and read news and comments. Sleep has become optional as well.

On the other hand, I've learned a great deal and feel much more informed.

I don't feel that I'm getting one side of the story because that usually comes from the MSM. On DU, there are often differing opinions on any particular issue, and I welcome the variety.

Reading DU reassures me that there are thinking people in this world -- a comfort in my largely Republican neighborhood where an (R) behind a candidate's name often merits an automatic vote.

I submit that I am more harmful to DU than it is harmful to me.
