More Details Emerge From Torture Case
***Note from Ghost*** I'm trying to find an email address for the prosecutor so I can set up an online petition for him to upgrade the charges to include hate crimes. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.***

LOGAN, W.Va. (AP) - The list of horrors allegedly endured by a woman at the hands of six people in a remote trailer grew during the suspects' court hearings - leaving the woman's mother sobbing.

Reading Tuesday from a statement 20-year-old Megan Williams gave deputies the day she was rescued from the ramshackle home, a sheriff's deputy said she had been stabbed with what she described as a butcher knife and beaten with wooden sticks and fly swatters.

She said she was sexually assaulted, doused with hot water, forced to eat animal feces, and taunted with racial slurs. Among the new allegations, she said hot wax was poured on her, and that two of her captors forced her to drink a cup of their urine.

Carmen Williams, the victim's mother, left the preliminary hearing of one of the defendants in tears Tuesday after listening to what her daughter allegedly experienced.

Charges against most of the six suspects were upgraded Tuesday. All six, who are white, now face charges of kidnapping, which carries a maximum life sentence. Four of the defendants had faced lesser charges before Tuesday's filings.

1. It is probably because the hate crime charge is weak.
Trust me they will pull a jury from a county who's national flag is a Confederate Flag. No way in hell you would get a jury to convict on a hate crime in that ignorant infested county. The kidnapping charge is a big deal and they have lots of evidence. And from the article, it appears like the perps are starting to turn on each other. Not to mention, there isn't a one of them that doesn't have felony priors. They are all going to prison. At least I hope I am right.

2. You don't want that
from what i understand the hate crime is federal and the max is 15 years. The kidnapping, attempted murder, etc. are all life on a state level. Take it to federal courts and you lose that. They made the right call.

4. I see that now. I thought the hate crimes would carry worse penalties...
and as a Southerner, I detest inbred freaks like this... I'd like to see them swinging from the end of a rope...
