Poll question: Was the Kerry Tasering incident a Manufactured Outrage, in your opinion?
Edited on Wed Sep-19-07 09:44 AM by bryant69
In other words, do you think maybe the student in question manufactured this incident to make Kerry look bad?

3. Agree.
I don't think Andrew Meyer should have been Tasered, but I just don't get the hero worship. It's pretty clear that he had no interest anything other than his name recognition.

9. He was tasered because he resisted arrest, and they had to cuff him.
At that point he had disrupted the event, screamed like a madman, broken free from two cops and rushed the stage of a US Senator (at which point any cop in the world will escalate the situation, since that's exactly how many assassinations start), then broke free from four cops, and was struggling while there were six on him. They couldn't cuff him, couldn't subdue him. At that point they either had to break his arms, club him, shoot him, taser him, or let him go. They did exactly the right thing. And it was a short balst--if they'd been out for revenge or trying to "modify his behavior" they would have given him a longer blast, and he wouldn't have been able to scream (in a transparently fake voice) "OW!" He wouldn't have been able to stand, as he did seconds later.

Cops handled it well.

And this guy was completely about his own aggrandizement. He wanted exactly what he's getting. Attention, attention, attention.

Nice of DU to give it to him.

This man is an insult to anyone who ever staged a serious protest. He makes a mockery of all of us. I'd taser him out of revenge, which is probably one reason I'm not a cop. :)

10. He will have plenty of time to assess his behavior while in jail.
Maybe he can read up on assassinations in American politics, to get a little perspective on what it is like to be a JFK in America.

4. Completely. You can see it even in the videotape he orchestrated.
The dude runs a practical joke website (according to CNN--I won't click on it because I'm sure that's what he was after). Listen to his fake tone of voice, listen to the screaming "Don't taser me, bro!" to the camera instead of the cops. He even asked people if they were videotaping before he began his questioning.

It was all a stunt. The worst part is that anyone LISTENING instead of shouting would have heard the facts yesterday--they were all over talk radio from witnesses who had been there. Shameful.

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/09/18/student.tasered/index.html

"You will take my question because I have been listening to your crap for two hours," Meyer told Kerry, according to the police report of the incident.

He then turned to a woman and said "Are you taping this? Do you have this? You ready?" the report said.

Clarissa Jessup, who contributed I-Report video of the incident to CNN, said Meyer gave her his camera and asked her to shoot video of him posing his questions to Kerry.

One of the police officers on the scene observed that Meyer was "yelling as loud as he could as to sensationalize his presence," according to the police report.

Meyer had about a minute and a half at the microphone before police stepped in to haul him away. As he tried to escape their grip, Kerry protested, "That's all right, let me answer his question."

snip

Police noted that his demeanor "completely changed once the cameras were not in sight" and described him as laughing and being lighthearted as he was being driven to the Alachua County Detention Center.

"I am not mad at you guys, you didn't do anything wrong. You were just trying to do your job," Meyer said, according to the police report.

At one point, he asked whether there were going to be cameras at the jail, according to the report.

Meyer was charged with resisting arrest with violence -- a felony -- and a misdemeanor count of disturbing the peace. He was released without having to post bond Tuesday.

Meyer was carrying a business card advertising "TheAndrewMeyer.com 'Speak My Mind,' " the police report said.

The Web site features videos of Meyer taking part in several practical jokes. It also includes a "disorganized diatribe" that criticizes the war in Iraq and the media.

The Web site said his friends had posted coverage of his arrest.

7. Not only was it a manufactured stunt by the kid.
I think the people complaining about it have manufactured outrage. They're very phony about it. You can tell by the way they keep lying about it, as if we can't watch the video for ourselves.

Towards a Taxonomy of Political Trolls OR Filling a Neologism Vacuum.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x1835214

The Taxonomy of Political Trolls.

Unlike Internet trolls generally, the political trolls, a distinct genera (Homoferus), remain poorly described.
The genus name derives from the combined form of:
homo hominis : human being, man + ferus : fierce, wild, savage, untamed.
It would be helpful to have clearer descriptions and nomenclature to deal with these pesky ratf**kers!

To start, we need to do more work to describe the Dem bashing species. They are not Homoferus blemmus (blemmings), the trolls that try to lead everyone off a cliff into irrelevancy. ...

13. Interesting results thus far.
From the vociferousness of those who are quick to blame Kerry for this incident, one would have expected more like a 50/50 split.

I'm sure it's just a complete coincidence that some people only come out of hiding when they can trash John Kerry or other people who threaten them...

18. After viewing it
it seemed to me to be he was acting like a 5 year old child, trying to get attention. And when he said Ow, Ow, I have to say it sounded completely like childish acting again. I think he was a very immature person. I don't think he intended to make Kerry look bad. His questions were good ones, but his emotional maturity may be not as good.
