SENATE VOTES AGAINST RESTORING HABEAS CORPUS |
|
Edited on Wed Sep-19-07 10:20 AM by cali
It's a done deal. And this was NOT about the lack of dem spine. The only "dem" that I'm aware of who voted with the repukes to filibuster, was LIEberman.
Some repubs voted with the dems: Specter, Hagel, Sununu and Luger did.
Some moderate repubs proved what traitorous creeps they are: Collins, Warner and Snowe, to name three.
We need more Dem Senators. It's that simple.
Thanks to Senator Leahy who's been working his butt off on this for a long time. And thanks to Senator Dodd as well. Grudging thanks to Arlen Specter who co-sponsored, and to Luger et al for voting for the Constitution.
A special raspberry to that toad Lieberman, and to Susan Collins, who will hopefully be retired next year by the good people of the great state of Maine. (Go Allen!)
UPDATE: SNOWE CHANGED HER VOTE TO AYE.

We needed 60 votes to be able to move to a vote on the actual bill. We only got 55. The pukes successfully filibustered.

that we need to kick the moderate Democrats out of office, because they have no spine.
Oh wait. Waitwaitwait. That's a totally-insane position. Yeah.
What this actually proves is that even the most-conservative Democrat is worth a hell of a lot more than the Republican suit they'll replace.

|
When he moved to Stamford recently he went in to register and quietly registered as a dem. What surprises me most is that he didn't register as a Republicon, though if he did he'd lose his committee and after all, it's all about him isn't it/

That is how it works. They know they aren't going to achieve cloture. The ones that can take the hit do, the ones that can't are allowed to vote for cloture. Doesn't really matter, the result is the same.

|
They knew how many votes they needed, and basically, her vote didn't matter. I expect a lot of that in the next year so they can try to protect some of the senators who are in close races. "see, she voted the way a dem would have". I'm really tired of these games. And shame on every one of the Senators who voted Nay.

Since the Republicans had already made clear that they wished to filibuster, the Dems, by allowing it, would share equal blame in the waste of however long they spent reading from phonebooks on the floor.
