Urgent Alert!

Tell the Senate: Support Our Troops and End the War by Voting YES on the Webb-Hagel Amendment
Our Troops Are Stretched to the Breaking Point.
BRING THEM HOME!

Support for the President's disastrous policy in Iraq is fading fast. Ask your Senators to support the Webb-Hagel amendment on troop readiness.
take action now

This week, Senators Jim Webb (D-VA) and Chuck Hagel (R-NE) are introducing an amendment to the defense bill that -- if passed -- will finally provide relief to America's overextended military by mandating adequate time between deployments. This legislation could be the important first step in ending the war in Iraq because it will force President Bush to begin drawing down the number of troops deployed.

Senators Webb & Hagel introduced this same legislation back in July, but Republicans in the Senate blocked its passage because they knew that passing it would mean that the president could not sustain elevated troop levels in Iraq. In doing so, they showed that their "support the troops" rhetoric is nothing but empty words. The troop readiness amendment will come up again later this week in the Senate -- and this time there's a strong chance that we can get enough votes to pass it -- so please take action right away.

Click here to urge your senators to support our troops and vote yes on the Webb-Hagel troop readiness amendment.

This bi-partisan amendment will be one of a series of votes in upcoming weeks to compel senators to make a choice: do they continue to support the President's disastrous policies in Iraq? Or do they listen to the American people -- and the voice of reason -- and vote for a change of course?

It's plain for all to see that the occupation of Iraq is destroying our military readiness and has put our troops in a no-win situation without an exit strategy. Anyone who says they "support the troops," yet votes against this amendment, is a hypocrite, plain and simple.

Tell your senators to give our troops fair deployment lengths and adequate breaks between tours of duty by supporting the Webb-Hagel amendment.

Please share this message with everyone you know who cares about supporting the men and women who serve in the United States military and wants to end the war in Iraq.

Thank you for working to build a better world.

2. But how does that support the troops?
How is allowing the troops to spend a little more time with their families patriotic or a display of compassionate conservatism? I think chickenhawks should rise up in rightious indignation and insist that our troops stay in Iraq until they die. After all that is the conservative way to support our troops isn't it? Fuck Webb and Hagel and all their fucking liberal bullshit.

3. LOL! I can't think of two more flaming liberals than those two--they
clearly loathe the military, AND America.

4. Well, it is allowing the troops to spend a little more time with their families
That should be self-explanatory. Are you against this idea?

6. My wonderful friend L. Coyote
I am a total failure at sarcasm but I refuse to use the Icon. I did my time, spent a great deal of effort with the Navy's family ombudsman program, nothing is better for a servicemember then to be with his family. I am for an even far reaching idea then that - bring them home now. I promise I will strive to hone my sarcasm skills. No one supports our troops more or knows the pain their families go through then one who has been there and done that. bush is an idiot; that is my four word editorial for the day.

8. Indeed, "bush is an idiot" and the pinko commie that said "stupidity is the third most
important force in history" was a prophet.

7. Indeed. I now have 10 new Ignores in less than an hour.
I'm ignoring ever new taser poster. And I hide every taser thread. DU looks so much better already. And, I feel better too.
