Bigoted moran alert: Rep. Peter King: There are "too many mosques in this country”
New York Rep. Peter King, a prominent House Republican, said there are “too many mosques in this country” in a recent interview with Politico.

“There are too many people sympathetic to radical Islam,” King said. “We should be looking at them more carefully and finding out how we can infiltrate them.”

King is the ranking Republican on the House Homeland Security Committee. And as an outspoken advocate of strong anti-terror measures, he has been unafraid to ruffle some feathers in his drive to protect the homeland.

When asked to clarify his statement, King did not revise his answer, saying “I think there has been a lack of full cooperation from too many people in the Muslim community.” The interview was for a profile of the committee, as part of Politico’s Committee Insider Series.

2. So ALL Muslims are sympathetic to radical Islam?
Edited on Wed Sep-19-07 03:56 PM by LeftishBrit
Wow.

Personally, I think there are too many Republicans in America. Too many of them are sympathetic to radical Bush-ism.

11. People like him radicalize others because they feel threatened and retreat into their own group.

4. Peter King is the rep in the district next to mine and...
he might be the sop to wingnut Republicans here on LI, but he's a stupid embarrassment to most of us around here.

Dunno what he's done for his district, but it can't be enough for them to keep his sorry ass around. They still do though, and it's a wonder.

14. Maybe it's not what he's done
Maybe those who continue to support him are just as racist as he is, and agree that anyone who is different is evil!

18. There is a lot of that...
I know a lot of people in his district, and although it's diverse, it's diversity is limited. It's OK to hate Hispanics, Asians, Middle Easterners, and a few others.

9. This:

First Amendment:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances

What is it about these people that they want to shred our constitution?

13. He also supported the IRA
Throughout his career, King has been one of the strongest and most outspoken supporters of the Irish Republican Army. During negotiations in 1998, King carried messages between the IRA and the British government. King was instrumental in convincing President Bill Clinton to grant a visa to Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams in 1994.

In late August 2006, King endorsed racial profiling as a law enforcement tool. He proposed that people of "Middle Eastern and South Asian" descent go through additional security checks due to their ethnicity and religion, saying that all Muslims aren't terrorists but that all recent terrorists are Muslim (Newsday 8/17/2006). King came under fire from civil rights proponents, law enforcement officials, and Newsday's editorial and readers' opinion sections.

The man supports terrorists as long as they're just like him, but if they're different then they need to be tagged.

Maybe he would feel better if all Muslims wore something on their clothing, like a brown triangle?

So, does the good congressman represent the true feelings of those in his district who re-elected him? It's good to know where a large group of racists and bigots live!!!!

19. Peter King is a severe asshat.
I lived pretty close to his district for a while, and let me tell you, he stinks so bad I sometimes weep for my friends who are actually in his jurisdiction. This crap is typical of the sort of thing he says. Mean-spirited, dull, this idiot has never had an intelligent or kind thought in his tenure. Peter King combines the worst of Sean Hannity and some dipshit televangelist. He's one of those kooks who actually wants war. Ugh.

:grr:

Edited on Wed Sep-19-07 04:07 PM by Kelly Rupert
This is possibly the most blatantly offensive thing a Congressman has said in...oh, I don't know, days? Anyway. This is ridiculous. There are few times I'll jump on the "OMG OFFENSIVE AWFUL AWFUL" bandwagon, but this is one of them.

Anyway, what was the actual quote he used? Politico isn't providing it.
