Lincoln, Pryor, and Snyder Announce $450,000 Grant to Fight Meth in Little Rock
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor along with Representative Vic Snyder today announced the Little Rock Police Department (LRPD) will receive $450,000 in a law enforcement grant through the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Methamphetamine Initiative.
The grant will allow the LRPD to collaborate with local and federal agencies on officer training, meth-lab takedowns, safe clean up of meth-production sites, and the relocation of children rescued from raided households. The LRPD received the highest level of funding possible for a COPS Methamphetamine Initiative grant.
“It is essential that local law enforcement officials have the resources they need to fight the meth epidemic,” Lincoln said. “These federal dollars will help the Little Rock Police Department protect local families from this deadly drug that is a threat to our communities.”
“Meth addiction destroys lives and families in Arkansas and across the nation,” said Pryor. “We must provide local law enforcement with the very best training and resources to eliminate its production, use and threat to the larger community.”
“I am pleased to see the Little Rock Police Departments receive this much-needed assistance,” Congressman Snyder said. “Central Arkansas has been significantly impacted by the proliferation of methamphetamine labs, and these funds will help law enforcement respond better to the problem.”
COPS has awarded $355 million nationwide in the fight against methamphetamine. In addition to funding anti-meth projects, COPS supports innovative local community policing initiatives, funds the purchase of crime-fighting technology, provides training and technical assistance resources, and funds the hiring of local law enforcement officers.
