Rep. Jerry Weller (R-IL) to retire?
by Jim Tankersley

Rep. Jerry Weller (R-Ill.) is set to announce his retirement in the near future, two Republican sources tell the Tribune. One of the sources said the announcement could come as early as tomorrow.

Weller’s spokesman did immediately not return a call seeking comment.

Weller, a seven-term incumbent, has faced questions about his re-election intentions all month, following a Tribune investigation that revealed he failed to disclose several land transactions in Nicaragua on his congressional ethics forms.

The Tribune also reported last week that a charity formed by Weller’s wife, Zury Rios de Weller of Guatemala, raised questions about whether Weller could legally exclude her assets from his congressional filings.

8. I've been praying for this, and I thought it would happen
Everyone knows he's corrupt. It was just a matter of time before he was exposed. I don't know what took the Tribune so long!!

4. If Only This Is True...It's About Time
There's been a lot of dirt said and spread about this guy over the years. From his "lifestyle" (rumors in the 90's he was "gay"...shame shame...then he got married) to his connection is Rio Mott...the Guatamalan strong man and now his latest "land deals". Smells like someone has some goods on Jerry this time and he's heading for the border...pronto. Maybe this is the way we can reverse the immigration problem...send all our crooked Repugnicans south of the border.

7. OMG!!! THANK G-D! That useless piece of crap is MY Congressman and he should have been gone

years ago, but people around here are too stupid to know they were voting for an asshole or knew and just didn't care. :woohoo: Now we have a VERY good chance to replace him with a Democrat! The Trib did a VERY good job of reporting on all his criminal land deals in Nicaragua. He's another corrupt rat jumping ship and the ship goes down.

Weller and Hastert (also retiring) were 2 named in that list of subpoenaed Congress people in connection to the Cunningham case...who refused to comply with the subpoenas. I wonder how many more on that list are retiring? It would be interesting to watch which of them decide not to run for reelection.

edited Abramoff to Cunningham...there's so many criminals I can't keep track anymore.:(

Wouldn't it be great if we had a clean sweep and replaced them all with DEMOCRATS? If ever there was a time to do that, it's 2008! The repuke party couldn't be in a worse position.:)

18. Are There Any Democrats In Will County??
I would imagine there are plenty of Democratic votes to be had in Joliet and K3 to give a Democratic candidate a boost. I worked in Joliet when Weller first ran and was "selected" (his first election was very close)...and was always amazed with all the dirt that was being floated about him how he kept winning and winning. He surely was spreading the green and pork around.

I'm looking at some very interesting races in Illinois this year. Besides the 14th (Hastert), now there's the 12th to add to the 6th and 10th. Plus don't forget the challenge to Bean in the 8th. The "clean-up" of the burbs is well underway.

He's been an embarassment to us for years. And, his wife is a beard.

I've known him for a very long time. Dumb as a post, a liar, and a crook who's never worked a day in his life.

Another silverspoon twit.

15. The word going around is Hastert will step down
As early as November. I received a letter from John Laesch, the veteran who ran against Hastert, that the Governor will have to run a special election within a hundred and twenty days. If true, good ol' Denny boy is running scared.

21. TPM Muckraker is reporting that Weller may RESIGN as early as Thursday!
Edited on Thu Sep-20-07 10:08 AM by calipendence
Check this that just went up. Though the link they are pointing to in the Chicago Tribune perhaps may have just been taken down.

http://www.tpmmuckraker.com/archives/004242.php
Representative Jerry Weller (R-IL) boasts the largest foreign land holdings of any member of Congress. But Weller, who failed to disclose land transactions in Nicaragua, is now dogged by ethics questions and will probably be resigning as early as Thursday. (Chicago Tribune)

Looking at the Chicago Trib site, there's an article here, but it notes that he will probably announce his retirement on Wednesday. I wonder if some little thing "leaked" out that shouldn't in an earlier article that might point to him actually resigning! One can only hope!
