and he is just human.
But maybe not Presidential material.
I always thought it was odd that out of nowhere, Kerry rose to the top.
My suspicions were (and still are) that the GOP identified their most dangerous opponents and tried to sink them. Gen. Wesley Clark, a Rhodes Scholar, former head of NATO, etc., etc., got suffocated in the media. Who gets to magically rise to the top? John Kerry. Not to say he was in cahoots, but I think the GOP identified him as "beatable" and did what they could to manuever him into front-runner position, knowing they could beat him once he was there.
The American public was so pissed, though, that they were voting him in. Regardless, and combine that with a little "voter fraud", which I think took place in isolated, but key, areas, not to mention some darker scenarios, and Kerry loses.
Clark, in that position, I don't think would have caved. Kerry did. I think he was manuevered into being the front-runner, and we went with it.
I also think he was strategically wrong for not contradicting the Swift Boat Veterans.
So perhaps he was not cut out to be President after all. Doesn't mean he's a bad guy, just means he wasn't meant to be prez.
Unfortunately, that left us with Bush for ANOTHER four years.
I suspect we won't make the same mistake twice.
