Giuliani: I'm Among Best Known Americans

Sep 19 05:50 PM US/Eastern
By PAISLEY DODDS
Associated Press Writer

LONDON (AP) - Rudy Giuliani was on the trans-Atlantic campaign trail Wednesday, schmoozing with conservative idol Margaret Thatcher and bragging about his international credentials.
"I'm probably one of the four or five best known Americans in the world," Giuliani told a small group of reporters at a posh London hotel as onlookers gathered in the lobby to gawk at actor Dustin Hoffman, who was on a separate visit.

The former New York mayor is the latest GOP presidential candidate to travel to Britain, meeting the country's new political guard and rubbing elbows with Thatcher, an icon for American conservatives.

He also was asked to deliver a special lecture at the Atlantic Bridge, a group that promotes ties between British and American conservatives.

Giuliani told reporters he has made 91 trips to 35 countries in five years and many governments seek him out for advice on security. He was given an honorary knighthood in 2002 by Queen Elizabeth II for his leadership after the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

But who are the four other best-known Americans?

"Bill Clinton ... Hillary," he said, but he was whisked away for another engagement before he could throw out any other names.

17. Although I really don't care....
Edited on Thu Sep-20-07 08:38 AM by PeterU
Although I really don't care about Rudy cross-dressing and far as I know, he's only done it publically as a joke and not recreationally (a la J. Edgar Hoover), I do have to say one thing.

That picture, if Rudy gets the nomination, will put Michael Dukakis in a tank to shame in terms of embarassing photos of a candidate and doing irrepairable damage to his reputation.

22. "will put Michael Dukakis in a tank to shame" = Exactly
The Dem candidate just needs to keep showing that photo in TV ads with a voice-over that says, "Do you (America) want this person representing the U.S. as the leader of the free-world?"

14. Rudy's Run For Cash...
The reason Ghouliani is in London is to squeeze cash out of American ex-pats (and who knows who else)...note that whatever Rudy says, his hand is out...looking for the cash. His attacks on MoveOn and Hillary are pure cash plays right now in an attempt to line up cash that is starting to get hard to come by.

The goofy thing is Rudy's "Great White Hope" act is what really has him still running strong. It's not "terrorism" of A-rabs as much as its the fear of Hillary that is the base of his candidacy and popularity.

15. And clumsy, arrogant, mendacious, offputting, smarmy . . .
Shit like that is exactly why I want Giuliani to win the 'Lican primary. Whoever the Dem is will be able to use him like a Handi-wipe (actually the off-brand, the one that comes apart with one swipe in the commercials).

16. Narcissitic personality disorder, anyone?
4 years of Rudy would be nearly as bad as the 8 years we've had of Dubya. I pray this man is not elected and people will see him for who he really is. He is no hero.

23. NPD symptoms
At least five of the following are necessary for a diagnosis (as with many DSM diagnoses, they must form a pervasive pattern; for example, a person who shows these criteria only in one or two relationships or situations would not properly be diagnosed with NPD):

1. has a grandiose sense of self-importance
2. is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love
3. believes that he or she is "special" and unique and can only be understood by other special people
4.requires excessive admiration
5. strong sense of entitlement
6. takes advantage of others to achieve his or her own ends
7. lacks empathy
8. is often envious or believes others are envious of him or her
9. arrogant affect.
