Eddie Haskell sues SAG over royalties
LOS ANGELES - The actor who played Eddie Haskell on TV's "Leave It to Beaver" is suing the Screen Actors Guild, claiming the union is sitting on $8.1 million it collected from foreign royalties and should distribute to actors.

Ken Osmond, 64, filed a lawsuit Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court accusing SAG of unjust enrichment and violations of the state's business code. The lawsuit seeks class-action status on behalf of at least 30,000 actors and others.

(snip)

Osmond contends that since at least 1996, SAG has collected royalties for use of TV and movie productions outside the United States in the form of levies for video rentals, private copying, cable transmissions and other uses of the productions.

Osmond claims SAG collected the funding on behalf of himself and other actors without obtaining their permission and without telling them it had done so. The lawsuit also contends that the guild has collected more than $8 million but paid out only about $250,000.

1. Here's some tidbits about him:
Was shot three times in the line of duty as an LA cop.

After retiring from the police force, he made his living from various Los Angeles-based rental properties which he maintained himself.

Spent most of his 18 years of service assigned to Central Traffic Division where he was rarely recognized as 'Leave It to Beaver' character.

He was severely typed as TV's favorite insincere school-age brownnoser ("Good morning, Mrs. Cleaver!") in the late 50s and early 60s and eventually was forced to quit the business.

4. I don't think any of the main young actors are dead...
....though there were rumors for years that Jerry Mathers (Beaver) had died in Vietnam.

5. urban legend said the beaver died in Vietnam
but it was a lie as his post-vietnam pudgy face would attest...

Interesting that smarmy Eddie became a cop. Shot three times? Wow.
