1. Six blacks?
Edited on Thu Sep-20-07 10:13 AM by SteppingRazor
Yikes.

On edit: Also, the black kids haven't been found guilty in court, so they have not "beat up" anyone. They've "allegedly" beat up someone. Christ, what sort of Bush league paper is that from?

16. Are you suggesting the possibility that the "alleged victim"
merely walked into a door? I'm not excusing anyone in this mess. It is a prime example of the hazards of escalation and the fact that two wrongs don't make a right.

18. Not at all.
It's standard journalistic practice. If someone has not yet been found guilty in a court of law, they have "allegedly" committed the act. Period. It doesn't matter how obvious the guilt. If you stab someone to death in the middle of Times Square, you're still an "alleged murderer" until found guilty at trial.

4. It is factually challenged
Darn mainstream media. They don't even bother to get their facts about this thing straight.

8. Oh hell let's use the word damn
Damned MSM! It is factually challenged as it portrays the students that were arrested as being the instigators of the fight. AP correctly says "charged in an alleged attack on a white classmate". That's the point of the whole case. What are the facts?

Here is one version on Democracy Now
The Case of the Jena Six: Black High School Students Charged with Attempted Murder for Schoolyard Fight After Nooses Are Hung from Tree

Six black students at Jena High School in Central Louisiana were arrested last December after a school fight in which a white student was beaten and suffered a concussion and multiple bruises. The six black students were charged with attempted murder and conspiracy. They face up to 100 years in prison without parole. The fight took place amid mounting racial tension after a black student sat under a tree in the schoolyard where only white students sat. The next day three nooses were hanging from the tree.

There is much more about the incident from the perspective of the African-American students at the Democracy Now site. The school staff knew who hung the nooses and basically called it a prank and just gave the students 3 day suspensions.

So who put up the nooses on the tree? Who took the first punch at the fight? Just because one student ended up getting hurt in the fight doesn't mean he wasn't involved in instigating the fight to begin with. What was his role in the fight where he got beat up?

Sonia

7. ...
"Thousands are expected in this Louisiana town in SUPPORT OF SIX BLACKS WHO BEAT UP A WHITE STUDENT."

They make it seem like all those people there are in support of a single student getting beat up by a gang of six.

Wrong, Houston Chronicle.

11. That caption's wrongness speaks volumes.
I guarantee you can get a decent number, perhaps a solid majority of Americans, who'll find some way to defend this usage, and complain that us librul types are just being PC about it.

Non-violence gets people of all colors further. I've heard even * is playing this up for all it's worth for that 'southern strategy' of theirs.

"In the 2004 election, George W. Bush was the top Presidential fund-raiser in Jena ($3,400). Residents gave more to the Republican party than any of the others."

Willie Horton time again ?

This related DU post needs to be read by EVERYBODY,

Pray for Jena, these people really need to reconcile; it's the only sane course of action.
