HEADS UP!!! The Cornyn and BOXER MOVEON.org resolutions debate NOW on Senate floor!
BOXER was PISSED as hell yesterday. THIS SHOULD BE VERY GOOD!

Cornyn has a Resolution that denounces the Moveon.org ad....Durbin and Boxer want to amend the Cornyn resolution to add the Swiftboating of John Kerry and Max Cleland.

On C-SPAN 2 NOW!

That this came to the floor and is being debated is the height of ridiculousness.

What happened to "elections have consequences" if repukes outmaneuver the Dem majority at every turn?!

Color me fed up. But kudos to Boxer, nonetheless, for her consistent, fighting stance (NO on IWR, challenge to Condi as Secretary of State ...).

170. Doesn't anyone read these bills? How is it the Dems weren't able to "sneak in Admendments"
yet now that they are in Power...the "sneaks" just keep coming and they have to fight back and usually lose. They don't seem to understand after all this time how to "anticipate" what is coming.

176. I think that's it. Not like the Congress has anything important to do.
Let me guess here and say that the Dems approve this latest loyalty test, don't get Boxer's amendment calling out the swiftboatings, and cave on the war appropriations bill, which if I heard Reid correctly, will be $200 Billion more. The Republicans are out of their minds. They have brought disaster to this country yet, they still monopolize the dialog at this level of BULLSHIT. No wonder congress has an 11% approval rating.

I cannot believe that the democrats will just roll over and let the reestablishment of habeous corpus rights be shoved aside because the big bad republicans threaten a filibuster, but they will go on and on about whether a private organization should be able to buy ad space in a newspaper and express their opinions or something. And they wonder why people are pissed at them from within their own party. Damn. I mean, just DAMN.

3534734, GOP's Cornyn To Introduce Senate Resolution Criticizing MoveOn Ad
Posted by meegbear on Thu Sep-20-07 06:35 AM

As Congress considers a series of bills that would drastically alter the course of the Iraq war, one prominent Republican senator will be focusing his efforts on condemning a newspaper advertisement.

The Huffington Post has learned that Sen. John Cornyn, R-TX, will introduce a sense of the Senate resolution Thursday criticizing MoveOn.org's recent advertisement in the New York Times. The ad called into question the credibility of Lt. General David Petraeus, suggesting the pseudonym "Betray Us."

Cornyn's amendment proclaims that the general "deserves the full support of the Senate." The MoveOn advertisement, Cornyn's legislation states, not only "impugns the honor and integrity of General Petraeus," but "all the members of the United State Armed forces."

Perhaps in hopes of gaining support for his amendment, Cornyn's measure would also "reaffirm support for all the men and women of the United States Armed Forces."

Cornyn's bill comes on the heels of a GOP filibuster of an amendment, put forth by Sen. Jim Webb, D-VA, requiring that troops be given the same amount of time at home as they spend deployed abroad. A call to Cornyn's office to determine whether a vote against his measure would be regarded as a vote against the troops went unanswered.

Read the text of the amendment here.

177. The betrayal refers to bush's political exploitation of the military,
typical of him using our institutions - the Just Us Department springs to mind - to advance his agenda. He admitted to USING the General to deliver his message because bush has no credibility. Kind of reminds me of Colin Powell. Someone ask Petraeus if anyone has EVER used this particular pun on his name. Someone ask bush if using the troops for stage props endorsing his policies "impugns" their "integrity." Bush has politicized OUR government as HIS, and Rove is the attack ad's poster child. What hypocrites. Bush and the GOP have betrayed us, and Petraeus was just the latest deflection shield.

Cornyn's amendment proclaims that the general "deserves the full support of the Senate." The MoveOn advertisement, Cornyn's legislation states, not only "impugns the honor and integrity of General Petraeus," but "all the members of the United State Armed forces."

That the Rs are voting in BLOCK against this, except Hagel that is probably not spoken to anymore and probably is less welcome in their caucus than Craig. I expcetd the "moderates" to vote yes on both Boxer and Cornyn. They do live in a bizarro world.

Wow! Just heard Specter and Stevens vote aye.
