Conservatives change very slowly....
The first change is to vote for someone who will listen to them. The Democrats have a wide range of candidates that are listening to a wide range of the squishy political center.

The disenfranchised Republicans are going to vote Democratic in vast numbers come next November as the Republicans are still lining up the same old dead wood.

I finally figured out why DU has been a cesspool of pop culture and regurgitating MSM-TV news more now then ever. It is because the Republicans who have abandoned the GOP and Bush are allowing them selves to vote for Democrats this time around but they aren't changing any of their attitudes. And they are flocking to forums like DU to learn and to be part of the "group". The nation is turning to the left and when it does mass numbers are going to be part of that movement.

The problem is they are not adopting any liberal or progressive ideas right away, they simply are going to not vote for Republicans and they are erroneously bringing into the Democratic party platform the rotten planks of the Moderate Conservative TV and pop culture mindset at this time.

That mindset is selfish, easily distracted, attracted to shiny things, comfortable with one dimensional religious clarity and being told what to think by pundits on major television outlets.

Thus illustrated by the quagmire we call DU General Discussion.

I thought for the longest time that it was paid-GOP trolls that had run off vast numbers of old timers on DU. But now I realize that it is just plain arrogance and and a mix of ignorance.

On both the part of the new people who have taken the steps to leave behind the politics of fear and lies and part by hard core liberals and progressives failure to nurse these newbies along.

So here we are. Crammed to rim with recovering Republicans and crabby liberals who are again pushed aside by the sheer volume and din of the growing squishy center.

Well...welcome.

And some advice for the newbs. Don't turn back. Vote for Democrats and we will sort out the mess later. Be patient with us progressives, open your mind. Read and listen. Educate yourself.

First lets squish the GOP and send them packing from Washington for a long extended vacation. A very long vacation.

As for us long time DUers...Don't turn back. Vote for Democrats and we'll sort out the mess later. Be patient, open your mind. Read and Listen and EDUCATE our newbs.

The former Republicans have to realize though coming to embrace Democrats in November does come with a cost. You have to let go of your fear, intolerance and your selfishness.

The Democrats are not going to compromise on that so don't push any plank that continues the neocon stranglehold on this nation.
