Hit and run posters on DU.
I've noticed a few of those recently. The OP posts a really provocative statement and then vanishes, not responding to any DUers who have commented.

Anybody else notice this? What's your theory about them?

4. I agree with both the above statements
i've certainly said something intending to participate and then got called away and couldn't get back to it - on the other hand I do think some people just drop bombs.

19. But, but, do you mean that DU ISN'T your life? What?
I must say I post more often than I did when I was employed, but I have more leisure time now (duh). A guilty pleasure, like sneaking off to the movies in the afternoon or reading on the porch...

7. as someone who does this frequently
It's certainly not for freeper or trolling reasons. Some people are more lurkers and don't necessarily wish to engage in conversation but want to hear the views of other people. And sometimes I forget to check back in. Got other things going on, you know? I am a VERY important person. :P

20. I am really hesitant to call one out. Let's just say it is up on GD: P now.
But I have seen others.

I don't usually start a post unless I have a reasonable chance of reading responses and responding. Sometimes I ask for help with a question and DU comes through every time!

But that's just me...

Edited on Thu Sep-20-07 11:10 AM by jonnyblitz
to stick around for any length of time to tend to them. I believe an OP should interact with those who respond to his/her thread. I wouldn't feel right to start one then leave. On the other hand I often make a comment within a thread that I didn't originate and never check back for responses or ignore the responses when I see that I have them in "My DU". That might be considered bad manners.

The one I recently responded to, along with others, was an inflammatory statement.

24. Yes, that was one of them. Post an alert every time this happens.
One reason they disappear is they get reported and dropped from the system.

I need to add this pesky ratf**ker species to the taxonomy. Maybe Homoferus evanescens ??

Towards a Taxonomy of Political Trolls OR Filling a Neologism Vacuum.
