20. oh yes indeed
The reporter just now said again that Dan has his pride and has always believed in his story and its' TRUTH.
Reporter said 4 other people were fired at the time but so far none of them have said anything about Rather's suit. (yet?)
MSNBC keeps repeating the story as they do most of their stuff, kind of a loop.
HOWEVER.....every time so far, the reporter offers a few more tidbits.
I didn't catch the reporter's name but he said he used to work with Dan and knows of his integrity and pride.

had all that free time on my hands.

I hope that he finally puts this issue to rest. We all know the truth. Hell, most of the world knows the truth. But proof is what we need. Hardcore, unequivocable, unimpeachable truth.

16. The anchor asked the reporter
"Why did Dan wait this long"?
The reporter said because he now has NEW info on the story that he (Dan) feels will vindicate him.
so...it will all come out (hopefully)
Damn, I followed this day and night when it was happening and felt literally sick when they screwed Dan over.
I have been waiting a long long time for this payback.
I also think Dan asked for this amount of cash because it would do exactly this...get the MSM attention right now!
And it has! :bounce:

Does anyone remember when the typist secretary said she recalled the CONTENT of the memo being accurate?
That important little fact was overlooked since everyone was so fixated on the fucking FONT.

40. Yep, I remember.
My RW "friends" shoved that font thing in front of me. That's all they could focus on, the font! Not the truth of the story, not that the secretary affirmed that it was true.

Just that the font couldn't have been done in the '70s. I worked with those bloody IBM typewriters back then and I knew that the font was possible. It would take another ball or something, but it could be done.

But that is what they do. It's misdirection. And they're good at it.

27.  Most of US know it........
but I can tell you that there are freeps I work with who are still in line with the Roveian spin. One guy even told me just yesterday that Clinton was a silverware thief. Really!
I printed out an article to show him that was de-bunked and I think he finally believed me.
On the run-up to the election if the mass population knew and saw real evidence (on the evening news) that Chimp really was AWOL, it would have swayed some serious votes.
Same thing with scrubbing his DUI. They couldn't take any chances with either of those hot issues with the sheeple "base".

I would caution folks though, that what we consider "new" is quite different than what it means to the Euphemedia. And that's just fine.

Anything publicly discussed on AWOL is a body blow to this teetering regime.

35. technically, Bush was a deserter, not just AWOL
Once you're AWOL beyond 30 days, this switches you to the category of military deserter. If Ford hadn't pardoned all Vietnam-era deserters, Bush would still be liable for charges.

44. Gosh, I hope we don't have to shoot him.
That could be kind of depressing.

"Do you ...ah... have any last words ...uh... Mr. President?" (Al Franken)

Still, think of the TV ratings!

And BTW, it doesn't look like the Coward in Chief is as off the hook as it might seem:
In 1974, President Ford offered clemency to Vietnam draft resisters and deserters. Only 27,000 of 350,000 eligible applied. The offer expired on April 1, 1975. In 1977, President Carter pardoned those who dodged the war by not registering or fleeing the country.

It's possible that his application and grant of clemency has been "disappeared" from his record, like the records of whatever other havoc he wrought as a plastered pilot, but I don't think knocking up senoritas down in Reynosa qualifies as "fleeing."

41. Boston Globe ran articles on Bush's NG svs & concluded he did not fulfill his obligations.
"The reexamination of Bush's records by the Globe, along with interviews with military specialists who have reviewed regulations from that era, show that Bush's attendance at required training drills was so irregular that his superiors could have disciplined him or ordered him to active duty in 1972, 1973, or 1974. But they did neither. In fact, Bush's unit certified in late 1973 that his service had been ''satisfactory" -- just four months after Bush's commanding officer wrote that Bush had not been seen at his unit for the previous 12 months." http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2004/09/08/bush_fell_short_on_duty_at_guard/

Edited on Fri Sep-21-07 09:47 AM by givemebackmycountry
Rather works for HDNET.
HDNET is owned by Mark Cuban who owns the Dallas Mavericks and Cuban is VERY rich.
So rich in fact that he wants to buy the Chicago Cubs.

Rather says that he and Cuban get along very well, and I have heard Cuban say that he thinks Dan is a man of great integrity.

I wonder if Cubans stable of lawyers have helped Rather, and I also wonder if Cuban has Rather's back and is greasing the rails for this to happen.

I may do some research when I get home tonight.
I would like to know how much of a role (if any) Cuban is playing in this.

Mark Cuban has a TON of money.
