AARP to Kucinich: Drop Dead
by RUSSELL MOKHIBER

AARP President Bill Novelli is a company man.

No, the company is not AARP.

Novelli doesn't give a damn about AARP or its 38 million members.

If he did, he wouldn't be selling down them down river by opposing a single payer system that would benefit not just AARP members, but everyone in the country.

Novelli doesn't give a damn about the health of the nation.

What he cares about are the health insurance companies.

Novelli a founder of the giant Porter Novelli corporate public relations firm jumped to AARP in 2000.

But he never shed his corporate skin.

1. It doesn't make sense at all. Single-payer offers the greatest amount of cost savings
If Medicare represented everyone, then it possesses all the collective bargaining power when negotiating with pharmaceutical companies over the cost of drugs and negotiating with health care providers over the cost of procedures.

2. $4.4 BILLION?
"Earlier this year, both these health care industry giants signed a contract with AARP that will net AARP a cool $4.4 billion over seven years."
Fuck me, that's the weightiest chunk of influence buying I've ever heard of. The mighty AARP just got $4.4 BILLION mightier. Holy cow.

3. I have known about this guy and his politics.
He is the main reason I left AARP. I called and told them this and they had no answer nor did they ever follow up to try and explain their positions. They send their letters each month for me to re-enroll and all are promptly deposited in the trash.

12. I turned 50 this year & there's something from AARP in my
mailbox nearly everyday. I knew there was a reason I was hesitant about enrolling, and I think it was their backing of the Medicare "D" debacle that I was so opposed to at the time. Does AARP have a competitor?

15. I Don't Think So
AARP sold seniors and disabled people down the river with part d. Ever since it's been in effect I have watched seniors almost come to tears becaue each January the costs become higher. I have a supplemental for medicare and each year the cap gets lower and the co-pays get higher.

17. I made my call to the Iowa AARP creeps.
I told them their group is disgusting and don't bother to not take my name off their list. I did not give them our address so we can return to sender, unopened. Please all. Call AARP in Iowa at 1 866 554 5378. The initial receptionist staff put on an air, they did not know who Dennis Kucinich is. Hope more have been calling then just us. thanks.
I think it would be wise if some kind of protest ocurred outside their auditorium. It speaks poorly of those who debate. Sell outs.

5. AARP profits from selling health insurance.
They have a vested interest in maintaining the corrupt for-profit insurance industry.

6. Oh my.
The Stalinist Counterpunch supports Kucinich. I was thinking of voting for him next year in the primary for Ohio 10. Now I won't. This is just too much.

7. Then why did AARP invited Kucinich to their debate?
And why did Kucinich fail to respond to the invite?

8. AARP was infiltrated by and is being run by Republican
insurance company operatives and Novelli is part of that system. It's too bad they can use that pulpit to attack a candidate who opposes their corporate agenda and bamboozle people who think that AARP is still non-partisan. It makes me sick.

10. I joined AARP recently for dental insurance, will be dropping as soon as I can.
It was a matter of money, strictly money for dental insurance. Rock and a hard place. Reading what I have since I joined, I am dropping asap once my dental work is done. Here is a question for people posting and reading here: why so many other places do I also see Kucinich ignored? Media coverage, other debates he is cut off, etc etc. Why?

I do not support AARP politics but I have to do this now. I checked other dental insurance and this one is the best I could find for the moment. It all sucks.

19. Why Kucinich really wasn't invited
"What we have now is predatory capitalism,
which makes the American people a cash crop for the insurance companies."

20. Hi
I'm brand new, and I picked up on this from another site. I just wanted to tell you guys that we joined AARP about three years ago, but after the first year we have not renewed our membership. They promised lower car insurance rates, but after comparing their rates, and BTW - you had to join to compare the rates - their rates were actually higher than the three lowest rates from other companies. It was a real disappointment.

And, they were constantly pushing Health Insurance to supplement Medicare, which was at an outrageous cost.

I think the only good thing we got out of our combined $24.00 membership fees was when I showed the card at a Subway and got a cut on a couple of sandwhiches.

AARP is a waste and a ripoff, but I never knew until we joined and I started doing the research. Please spread the word and tell your parents, it is not worth it.

We are voting for Kucinich.

So, that's it, I'll try to pop in from time to time, you know us old timers, always on the run.

You kids take care and keep up the fight !
