The Republicans want one-party rule. We all know that. Their bag of dirty tricks is so deep, we may never find the bottom. Over the past several years they've done everything they can to marginalize and demonize true Democratic and liberal values. They've never ONCE stood up to condemn anything said by Limbaugh, Coulter, Savage, Medved, Malkin, Hannity, or any of the myriad other right wing "pundits," for that matter.
And, forgive me for saying so, but many of the things these people have said have been far more disquieting than a single ad taken out by Moveon aimed at General Petreus. Was it mildly offensive to the General? Perhaps. Did it deserve any time on the floor in Congress? Not a minute.
Had you people any sense, you would've researched some of the things all these folks have said over the last few years and thrown it RIGHT BACK in the Republicans' faces. "Where was your condemnation when this person said THIS?"
What we observers can't figure out is what's behind your inability to fight back effectively. We don't know if you simply don't know how (we DO, but you don't seem to want to listen to us) or if you're being threatened in some way that takes the wind out of your sails every time. We're out here in the blogosphere trying to figure out what the heck you're doing.
The GOP is morally bankrupt. They have, en masse, covered for one of the most blatantly corrupt and misguided administrations in American history. They, in turn, have been covered by the veritable army of right wing pundits who have as much right to call themselves "journalists" as Hitler's own master of propaganda.
WE see this. Why can't you?
What you need to do is learn to turn the argument back on the Republicans. Every time. It's not as though you don't have any ammunition. Your ammunition stockpile grows larger with every passing day. Their economic theory is a disaster, their self-righteous "morality" is a hypocritical lie, and their tactics are just plain disgusting. They show NO respect for the Constitution and try to hide their disdain for it by hiding behind the flag--as if the flag is in any way more important than the Constitution on which this great country is founded.
When you won the majority, I wrote an opinion that warned that you would find yourself under a more critical eye than any Democratic Congress in American history. That we'd be watching and questioning your every move.
Is THAT why net neutrality isn't getting any traction? Are you in the process of selling us out, of trying to help silence our voices out here in the hinterlands?
Tread carefully. The natives are growing restless. You might not necessarily like our tactics, but WE know how to fight. There will come a time when we will decide you're not interested in, or capable of, representing us. Despite the lockdown on the primary selection operated by the Party bosses, we here on "the fringes" are growing our own grassroots operations.
Tempt our disgust at your peril. You CAN be replaced. And if it keeps up, you will be.
