Contempt of Congress; It's About Time!
by Timothy Gatto | Sep 20 2007

I received an e-mail from Congressman John Conyers office today stating that he was going to introduce a bill in the House as soon as the calendar was open. This bill would formerly charge the administration with “Contempt of Congress” for not giving Congress the material on the firings of the Assistant US Attorneys that had been requested last summer. The letter is here:

Dear Timothy,

I wanted to take the opportunity to update you on the status of the contempt of Congress resolution in the House of Representatives.

As you may know, the Judiciary Committee passed a resolution before the August recess holding the White House and Harriet Miers in contempt of Congress for their failure to provide documents and appear before the committee as legally required by subpoena.

.......

What is now required is for the House to pass this contempt of Congress citation and pursue legal action against the White House and Harriet Miers for their failure to meet the requirements of the subpoenas. Hopefully this contempt of Congress resolution will soon have a vote on the floor of the House. I am not prepared to allow this administration to operate above the law.

5. ummmm..another 60 vote majority to pass I suppose..
good luck getting that..as is with all the rest of the Dems great ideas.

Repugs will find a way to send this down the hallowed hall, out the front door, into the street where itwill be caught between the rear dual tires of a Mexican truck on its way to Canada.

At least Conyers has kept his focus in going after this rotten bunch of crooks in our White House.
God Bless Him & thanks for sharing this letter.

11. Conyers is in the House.
The 60 vote thing is in the Senate.
The House is in a little better shape than the Senate, but with Pelosi as the Speaker not much of value is getting done.

Pelosi DID take Impeachment OFF the Table.
And there was that "Secret Free Trade Deal" that she and Rangel negotiated DIRECTLY with bush* behind the backs of the Democratic Caucus.

4. Are you talking that we have Contempt of Congress, in light of
Congress needing to censure the Bush Administration or that we have CONTEMPT for CONGRESS,
in light of the MOVE.ON censure?
I am willing to check the boxes in front of both of those!

9. The two Party System sucks & their is a remedy to it.
The Electoral System

Repeal the 12th amendment, reforming the electoral college, standardizing party qualifications in the states, qualified and free access to public airwaves.

1.Uniform Ballot Access
2.Loosen Third Party Ballot Restrictions
3.Universal Voter Registration
4.Election Day Holiday
5.Equal Media Access/Debate Inclusion
6.Instant Runoff Voting (IRV)
7.Secure Voting Machines
8.Public Campaign Financing
9.Direct Popular Vote Election of the President
10.DC Congressional Representation

But the Commission on Presidential Debates -- set up 13 years ago by the two major parties and amply funded by large corporations -- knows what's best for its backers. The commission is insisting on a strict 15-percent-in-the-polls threshold for participation, a requirement that seems sure to limit the debates to Bush and Gore.

Despite its civic-minded pose, the commission has always been looking out for the interests of the Democratic and Republican parties. It arrived on the political scene in 1987 to hijack the nation's presidential debates -- while ousting the nonpartisan League of Women Voters, a group viewed by the major parties' hierarchies as insufficiently subservient to their desires. At the outset, a New York Times headline got it right: "Democrats and Republicans Form Panel to Hold Presidential Debates."
